Nope, wont happen. It could damage a Windows file system or not properly close the data file thats open but thats it. Voltage Regulator is the ONLY thing that will physically protect your hard drive, UPS is only for battery backup unless it has AVR built in. I live in the land of loosing hard drives, Voltage Regulator is the saviour.

Whats the point powering the cameras by 12VDC battery when the DVR is dead? If you can power the DVR, then the cameras can be powered off the same power.
-
What do you use for a 24VAC power supply? Eg. 24VAC cameras. Also I havent seen many professional PSUs that have room for a battery.
-
is your yard that big
-
So a battery per camera? Sounds good but where are these batteries going (eg. enclosures?) and what are you charging them with? Doesnt sound like something one really wants to do for a client.

15 minutes if you're lucky on this side of the globe. Using the average consumer UPS.
-
Sounds like a bad UPS. What make and model? And does it have AVR? With stand alone DVRs in most cases one doesnt even need a UPS, unless they have a Generator and its just to keep it on until the Generator switches over - otherwise just get an AVR. I've had some of the best UPS that never power the devices back up, it happens. On the other hand, never had an AVR that didn't power the devices back up. By the way, I've seen both of them catch fire.

Best DVR for security cameras. AverMedia or Digimerge?
rory replied to tsc757's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Its an inexpensive DVR with alot of features. I use one myself, I like it. Like everything it has its cons. But the price is right. They have budget units and not so budget units, although almost all of their DVRs are "cheap" in price compared to others. The budget units for example have VGA only and no HDMI, plus a few less audio and alarm inputs for example. QSee actually sold one of their budget units under their names. Dahua DVRs are resold under dozens of names in the US. Prices can vary considerably. I switched to using them when I found out that they actually work for so little money. In the not so distant past, inexpensive DVRs were nothing but headaches and had very little features, but today things have changed and Dahua is not the only one pouring resources into lower priced units. You will have to decide for yourself, if you like building computers then perhaps THAT is the route you want to go. For me, having gone from years of using expensive Kalatel standalone DVRs to then GeoVision PC DVRs, and now to Dahua Standalones - I switched back as I can install them in just a few minutes, while otherwise It could be 1-2 days build and setup for the GeoVision - although you can buy them ready made and tested. Here it is difficult to find the right PC parts for a GeoVision DVR these days as well, and if one can find them they can be 10x the cost of the US. So the old idea of being able to maintain the parts easily has now gone out the window for me. Plus clients here in general just arent paying the service to build a PC DVR anymore - they want it in, and right now. Dont get me wrong, if I had quick access to the right PC parts and the DVR cards, I would have no issue building a PC DVR again, although I am certain I would still set priority to the standalone DVR, since now it does what most clients need. I recall just a couple years back, Avtech was the level of Dahua, pricewise, and those were low quality and literally HELL to deal with. In fact I dealt with an Eclipse Plex Standalone DVR today after an armed robbery incident and It once again felt like pulling teeth. So as mentioned, its up to you. In my experience recording quality and search features can be better with a PC based DVR system - with standalones the pros I found were less current draw (eg. 25watt), small size (eg. 1U), and more resistance to heat (eg. installed in a hot closet in the tropics). With the Geo systems for example it got to the point that more time was spent on worrying about proper cooling than actually making money. And yes, software for PC and Standalones make a difference in price, more time perfecting the DVR software can cause the price to be higher. Although I must day Dahua keeps their price down low for something that works well. -
I see now, the morons (sorry but there is no other word for the stupidity) have "optimized" their sites for "clear type" fonts (thats an oxymoron), so it looks like crap when using normal fonts. Great - 1 step forward, 10 steps back
-
eg. http://www.cnet.com it looks like parts of the fonts are missing What .. did they hire a crackhead to develop their site now click image to enlarge for normal view. fonts-diff.png Seriously, I figure they are doing it for the few morons that dont realize that they are supposed to view their LCDs in Native Resolution.

and in IE8 with IE's clear type fonts enabled as the page loads and with IE's clear type fonts disabled

Latest Chrome and Firefox, looks different but still bad in Firefox. doesnt happen with any other site that I visit, except that one and AVG. here it is in FF

Mount camera 15' high on roof gable.Box,bullet or dome?
rory replied to blake's topic in Security Cameras
Under an eave? And no IR? Vandal Dome is fine. If color only wont work with the amount of light then you need a Day Night, preferably a TDN which has a removable IR Cut Filter. KT&C actually have a few good ones right now with 700TVL. Then there is always Samsung and Panasonic type brands, cant go wrong with them, except you might brake the bank. -
Best DVR for security cameras. AverMedia or Digimerge?
rory replied to tsc757's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Check out the Dahua DVRs (eg QVis) No wifi though, will have to add that separate Has Network built in ofcourse. Supports most smartphones. -
Depends, is the house made of cardboard or brick? If its cardboard then it will likely work (until the signal hits a fridge or ac duct), if its brick then forget about it and run a wire

Night picture looks good to me. Although there seems to be a ton of light there? A little noisy but acceptable and common if thats AGC overcompensating. Whats the frame rate? And is that default shutter? Overall not bad, whats the model? -
Ive been kidnapped twice. 1st time they just took me somewhere and pulled a gun and took my shoes (LA gear were big back then LOL). 2nd time as they sped up a road deep into some ghetto and shouted they were "killing a white boy today" I jumped from the car then they preceded to run me down 3 times, but I managed to get away into some apartment complex. There was no CCTV, no witnesses - they got away with it likely to do it again and probably kill the next time. I had 3 guys attack me one night with knives in a club, I ended up jumping from the 2 storey balcony but they gave chase and I fought them off further down the road - no CCTV anywhere in site, no witnesses - they got away. Ive been robbed at gunpoint more times than I can remember, during the day and at night. I was attacked by 2 crackheads with homemade axes one night, I ended up fighting them off for a whole hour for a few hundred feet up a road, ended up right in front of the government house and nobody saw anything - there was no CCTV anywhere. They then preceded to run back and steal my vehicle. They were however caught but were just charged with pushing me on the ground and got a few months in jail - no witnesses to the attempted murder. Before they attacked, they were adamant that they just got out of jail and didnt care about going back, why would they if each time they are caught trying to kill someone they only get a few months in jail since the charges dont even fit the crime. Driving down the road one night there were big rocks across the road - an empty car was sitting there with the door open, and then as I slowed down a big rock came flying through my window. I sped off through a small opening in the rocks and drove straight to the police station. The next day we found out supposedly a mother and daughter had been pulled from that empty car and beaten and raped. This happened again just a year ago at another location where they caused you to pull off the road to get around it then they attack - but I drove through it then called the cops further down the road, meanwhile a woman had her window smashed out and barely got away alive. No CCTV, no witnesses. What's worse is 45 minutes later I saw 2 cops at the gas station and when I told them about it, the call was just coming over the radio. There are countless stories like this. For the record, crime is so high now nobody even stops at the red light at night, not even the cops. And I'm one of the lucky ones. Thousands of other victims have been brutally killed. Not once did any of those violent criminals wear masks - people that rob stores wear masks. You can spend an eternity trying to advocate for the removal of CCTV in public but be certain there are more of us out there that will make sure it is installed.

1280x1024 has been standard with it since at least 8.0 8.3+ have wide screen sizes also.
-
The Apollo PRO or Dahua HE-T records 704x480 30fps every channel.
-
Problem with those 24VFs is they dont use a photocell. their video switchover sucks.
-
I havent used them or done anything with the software like that, but when you search for IP cameras to be added, I reckon it recognizes the Geo's and then they can be used without adding the license, or if they arent Geo cameras then they request a license.
-
As a DVR I like them better. Only thing I wish it would do is let me choose which multiview I set on startup. Other than that, it does what I need for clients. Remote playback could be improved also for better multiview playback, but it works. Nice thing is they are continuously updating their software, making it better. They also have alot of options for software and DVRs. Even can record over the network using the network software, i did this with my DVR for a few months after my HDD failed (it was 2nd hand anyway). Playback quality can be a little clearer on the Geo depending on the codec used, but Live and network quality is better with the Dahua. Also Ive used the 32 channel Dahua DVR and they work good for such a low price. I had overlay issues with some Dell Windows 7 PCs and Geo Network video, basically blocked and low res - same PCs no issues with the Dahua networked video.

correct you select NVR instead of DVR when installing.
