It sets it so you cant do CTL-ALT-DEL and access anything else, its as good as Winforcer or any other windows security program, accessing the registry etc. Anyway, how secure is secure ... Once they have access to the DVR physically they can always just pull the power plug, carry the whole PC with them, or yuck out the HDD with the video files on it and slap it in another PC Check out WinForcer also .. http://www.winforcer.com/

yes, the DVR will most likely die after a few hours or days ... the HDD for sure will crash.

just use the keylock utility and if it has a DSP port lose the PC Monitor, keyboard and mouse, and output the DCP to a CCTV Monitor/TV and give them an IR Remote. Also, get rid of Remote Desktop, use only 1 windows account as default and no pass, and use VNC to remote to it when needed.

Poor mumsy .. I mean its inexpensive ... but I wouldnt recommend you buy it, there are other models. If they are close to you and its easy to get, and you have a couple dollars and you need something to record ASAP, then its up to you. Are you looking for a 4 channel or higher? -
Yeah you will need some sought of air. Are there any vents ..? How hot is the room its in? Rory

Yeah, its a whole different thing. You get the full Geo software. The card is cheaper than a cheap stand alone, the extra cost is in the PC used. Reliability.. I have a GV250-2 in my PC and no problems, i do alot on this PC too like web, movies, test and write software .. etc. But your PC has to be stable to start with - no spyware, trojans, viruses, etc. Ofcourse its always better to use a dedicated PC even with the GV250 ... -

cheap color bullet camera, forget IR and forget Dome ... There's nothing "good" about a dome at that price. If you must have rock bottom product check out the COP USA line ... or somewhat better the Eclipse or MACE line .. Personally, from experience, I can only suggest a Bullet camera at that cost as al cheap domes have given horrible images. Rory

Newbie Help - Best setup for me?
rory replied to FlirtMarketing's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Hi, welcome First the cable, RG59 Copper (or RG6 Copper if you can get your hands on it) RCA or Telco for Audio. At that short distance you can easily do twisted pair and baluns for video but Coax will be more secure. If all you have is RG6 Aluminum cable Tv Cable, it can work too, just keep it a couple feet away from any high voltage, Copper cable would keep it around 1 foot away from high voltage, Twisted pair the same. With all cables, the further away from High Voltage the better (eg. Fluorescent Lights). Alot of PC DVRs save them in AVI format, .wmv is unheard of, .mpg never seen that also. You could probably write a small exe to do the conversion from AVI to Mpeg for you, if anyone there has some programming experience, or search the web for something that may do the conversion on schedule. As im going backwards with the questions, the first question's answer would be yes, there are low end cards and then there are better ones. The cost is generally in the software - quality and features. A couple that I can suggest. GeoVision Video Insight NetProMax I-View (less popular but decent software) There are others but I havent played with them all as yet. Rory -
last i checked they were a few hundred more than the GE. Either way the IP model is horrible, and cost more than a 16 channel DVR. The others i could "live" with but would never purchase. I felt like i was on a Linux PC system, while compared to the GE ... which felt rock solid from boot up. I dont really even deal with the GE or any in that price range anymore, just from experience (PC is Duty free - the stand alones cost big $$ in duty) I never need dealer support though so cant comment there, but GE has been decent in the past, just dont try to call them. .. Their new site does suck, they have the cut sheets there, just not as easy to navigate now. .. if you need any let me know ..

i never watch it, i think its a dumb program to be less than honest ..
-
with IR i would stick to 18AWG regardless of the camera ... just in case. PS. that is a cheap bullet
-
what type of 12V cameras? If they are cheap Bullet cameras, sure, in fact just use some all in one video/power RCA cables .. just watch the distance.
-
yeah thanks guys, they didnt bother with it in the end anyways ..
