Did you try the I-View yet?
-
well its the same inside here as it is outside, these buildings werent built for the cold .. this is a 1950's building also .. actually its an ex-garage ... the windows dont really close. Im used to AC and run fans 24/7, but then I can always turn the AC off and it gets hot quick ... im no fan of heat also, just guess cant have it both ways .

what are these like those portable things ..? what about at the top, is that solid ..? Ive never seen one of these things before, though Ive dealt with Aluminum warehouses and normally there is something on the inside to secure it to. or just sell them a bullet camera ... it will hold up

this is funny, check it out, they get it a little cooler than us as there slightly further up north, more on line with Florida. I grew up on that island, and was there when it "supposedly" snowed in 1977 ... http://jonesbahamas.com/?c=45&a=7531

Recommend me a DVR (there are so many brands and options)
rory replied to PHOENIX's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Its not like a PC, its left on 24/7, all year long, so it depends. Its second hand so its just risky, it could fail any day. -

I cant say as its so old, maybe wasting your money. I would personally not buy it regardless of the manufacturer, just because of the age. I doubt there is still any warranty left on it. -
most of the PC DVRs come with PDA software, otherwise unless the DVR has javascript browser refresh software it wont work, as ActiveX is made for full Windows, they would have also had to make a seperate activeX with Pocket PC developer like Visual Basic Pocket PC, and then I still cant say whether ActiveX even works on Pocket PC.

The 321 is basically what I have used for over 5 years without failure in several locations including my own, and including in the nightclub, it is much better than most other BW Bullets with similar specs (used them also). They dont short easily and they even withstood a few hurricanes. The other one looks pretty generic though. Eclipse has pretty much the same camera for probably half the cost. The only difference with a high res with similar lens specs is the image will be clearer, dont expect faces at any length of distance unless its a manual zoom like a PTZ, or the lens is zoomed into a set area with a small FOV, but then you lose most low lighting capabilities. I have upgraded the BW bullets to the WizKid WZ30 BW High Res Vandal Domes, thats the kind of upgrade you may want to do, similar lens specs but higher resolution and in a vandal dome. And the cost is only a little more than the 321's.

There are generally Corner mounts or Parapat Mounts, depends on the manufacturer. Or you can use a Vandal Resistant PTZ Wall Mount housing, GE CyberDomes have these as do others.

Sorry guys, was sleeping for a change When it boots up look for the Version number, or go into the menu system and look for it there. If its networked go into the web browser and type in: http://IPADDRESS/index.ssi Once you get that to me we can go further, Be forwarned, if you upgrade to the incorrect firmware you will end up having to chuck it or send it back to GE. Video output to a PC DVR or Capture Card and record the video there. Even perhaps a USB 2 or 4 channel DVR or Capture device connected to a laptop, it will record whatever you play back. Or even can use a VCR.

Yes thats Total recording speed. Also, the AvTech is pretty much the cheapest DVR you will find. Its okay and I havent had any issues with it, its just very basic. Its designed for budget jobs so dont expect the world from it, but if you dont need network access then its a good choice, unless you want to go the PCDVR route, then I would look at the Geovision GV250 for a budget 2-5 channel, or the GV650-GV800 for the 8-16 channel. Its made by WebGate Inc, other brands using the same technology are Hunt and Bosch. Cant say I like them that much, heard they have some issues, but I havent used them myself so cant say for sure. http://www.webgateinc.com/wgi_htdocs/eng/product.html

The GE will cost much more than $1500 unfortunately, Im not sure about the Sanyo or the Nuvico, but from what you say you want it sounds like you will need a PC based system. My suggestion would be to start off with a GeoVision GV250 which is their budget entry card (i have one myself) and uses the same software as the other cards. You would more than likely be able to get it working in your current PC running in the Background, though cant say that 100% for everyone as depends on how stable their PC is to start with - runs fine in my Via Chipset, though if I play a Movie I close the DVR server. Anyway, this will get you used to the software without spending a fortune. Once you are are happy you could build a seperate PC or buy a ready built one, then install the card in that one. Optionally you could then upgrade yourself to a faster Geo card such as the GV650 or GV800. If you will have 2 cameras or less you could start off with the GV25-2 channel card, they are very inexpensive but a solid product. As for the cameras, I do really doubt those will barely even make a spot IR beam out to 50', perhaps 30-40' if lucky, and even that depends on what is in the location as a source of reflecton, as IR needs something to reflect off. If its a small area it wont be a problem but still only expect perhaps a small spot beam. Beyond 10' from the camera's FOV you will more than likely not pick up a clear image of the persons face, unless you use a MegaPixel camera, and then those are expensive, plus the DVRs of today only go as high as 720x480. You should see it pretty okay out to maybe 20' but not beyond that, and then even so it depends on the camera's quality, lens, and lighting conditions, not to mention the DVR recording quality. A camera with a Telephoto Varifocal lens could achieve it set to a fixed distance, but then unless you know the area you want to capture it wont do what you want. A PTZ will accomplish this but then you manually have to move the zoom and pan. A cheap PTZ would cost over $1000 easy, so I dont think that is an option in your application. First you need to decide what lens options you require/want. Then look at the type of camera such as lighting conditions, where it will be color, BW, Day Night, or Day Night with Infrared. Basically I wouldnt waste the money on a big name brand Color IR bullet camera, as they are pretty much budget cameras so you can find the same quality out of an OEM cheaper model. In the camera forum here there are many suggestions and examples of Color IR bullets (which are not considered Day Night cameras to professionals), or you can do a search for "Bullet IR" and see what it turns up. There are too many manufacturers and OEM resellers to name, most of them sell the same products when it comes to bullet cameras, as opposed to Box or Dome cameras. For serious Infrared you would need an Extreme CCTV product and they are expensive, something like the UF100 would give you 30 degrees of Infrared Beyond 100'. 30 degrees is generally just a tad more than 1/2 the width of a 4mm lens. Back to the DVR, the features you mentioned wont be a problem even for the GV250. Rory
