  1. I gotta admit i've never used them on the same power supply as other brands, just how the application was. In fact, there is something with some of the cameras where they will only support the warranty if it is on their Power Supply. That can actually be understandable to an extent, with all the OEM Power Supplies out there these days.
  2. no prob, look for any line phase adjustments and line lock, that would effect the 24VAC only, so check that out. Also what size power supply is it (AMPs), and whats the total draw on all the cameras? Though yeah with 12VDC the IR will draw more. PM me if you want me to send one of the engineers an email. Rory

    PC Vs Embedded

Typically when we say stand alone, we mean embedded unit such as RTOS and has front panel buttons, no keyboard or mouse. So essentially the VideoIQ is a PC based system, and a very expensive one at that. There is other software you can buy now, there are several companies writing intellegent digital systems now. http://www.activeye.com/ http://www.iomniscient.com/products.htm http://www.cernium.com/percepTrak.asp http://www.mate.co.il/page.asp?cat=23&lang=1&type=2 http://www.quantumsignal.com/products/software.html Some Open Source/Research: http://www.siebel-research.de/people_tracking/reading_people_tracker/ http://www.eucliddiscoveries.com/web/information.asp

    camera master

Dont know how well it works, but dont call them unless you are serious about buying it ..! Otherwise check out the other sites that sell it, such as the LTC Training Center.
  5. on the main configure menu, its 1st one down from the top (Camera/Audio Install), Turn off Network and Monitoring first, then go there and change the LIMIT to the number of cams, apply, then restart Geo, and go back and activate them. Rory

    Geovision and camera position...advice seeked

Always run extra cable and leave it in the attic or somewhere else, incase you have to extend/move it. Never make it permenant until you are satisfied with the location, or you are certain it is the correct location on installation. Make sure there are no trees or bushes within close range of the camera view. Dont mount it too high, and dont mount it too low - average 8-12'. You will need to clean it alot if it is outdoors so keep that in mind. Dont mount it where it can get knocked or vandalised easily, or use a vandal camera housing such as a vandal dome. Unless it is certified as WaterProof, dont mount it where it can get direct rain or other water. Dont mount it right next to high voltage. Dont mount it with any outdoor lighting within close range of the image. If its a very dark location use at least a camera that is BW or switches to BW, use some IR (with BW cameras), or use outdoor lighting to illuminate the area. All i cant think of for now, never had the steam problem down here .. Rory

    Speco HT-7815DNV

havent used it but there is one pro over other IR bullets, it has Split glass so you dont get IR reflection. Also has an IR Cut Filter, dont know how well that works on bullet cams though ..
  8. you can do 720x480 on all GV cards using at least version 7.0+ Like Jasper said the diff on the combo cards is the DSP and audio. You can also just use the Video card output to a TV if you want, that gives you the "what you see on the PC" scenerio, with the DSP output you only see the video, no GUI. The DSP is real time analogue so better quality than the Video card output, though with the Svideo output or DVI it can be very good, especially if using a CCTV Monitor, clearer than the PC monitors. If only 4 cameras you really dont need a combo card, just the GV800-4 if you want real time. No not a huge diff from 15-30fps, but it can matter sometimes. They also have the DSP card add on, but then its better to get the combo card one time if the DSP was required. Rory
  9. if you have a 12VDC plug try the EX10 with that, and see what you get. If it is still bad, then try the EX46 with the 12VDC. Also, i dont know as i havent used either camera yet, but if either of them have a Line Phase adjustment you may need to alter that when using 24VAC as they may be interfering, though Extreme would be the best to contact on that. It could also be a bad power board on one of them. I have an EX45 here now that got all kinds of lines after 5 years, turns out to probably be a bad power board, or short on the camera boards.
  10. are you using them with 24VAC or 12VDC and on the same power supply ..

    Is R59 & R59U the same thing?

FYI, thats also the "type" of Siamese (dual jacket) you should use for indoor box cameras, instead of the single jacket siamese.

    Here's another one

Yet "another" OEM, and the CAPS turn me right away .. then there is this : "We have developed a unique and cost effective Color Vandal Proof Dome Camera .." While it is a Dome camera made by a manufacturer in Korea...
  14. Use TCP and UDP Port Filtering, turn off all uneeded services. Unless you publish the IP/DDNS on google, browse the web, or run MSN IM you should be safe.
  15. Have you checked out this site, they have DVDs also. ltctrainingcntr.com

    Light Meters

Ill like to see some snapshots also. Also, have you used any Exview cameras? I dont have any use for them in the nigtclubs/bars here, we use vandal domes, but ill probably get a couple 1/2" box cameras for the car park. I think we'll use the Extreme 1/2" cam though .. possibly the pano, perhaps the bosch Anyway, i dont doubt you at all, i can see knowledge in your posts .. gotta excuse me im just not a big bosch fan, not really a fan of OEMs either, I have to doubt all of them until i test them, as we've spend tons of cash over the years testing products and they never are on the mark with their specs, i even doubt GE & some Extreme cameras until i test them

    Light Meters

Most cameras these days have automatic shutters, and then there is SAGC which sounds alot like Bosche's Sens Up feature. As for BW, are you going to hire a Plumber to build your kitchen cabinet, or a carpenter. I agree todays Day Night single CCD cameras are much better than in the "old" days, but still there is nothing like a decent BW only camera for low light, and a decent Color only for Day Time. As far as I can tell, Bosch is alot of hype, though it has decent specs and Im sure its a great camera, there are other cameras that match it or beat it in performance. They've been advertising like mad since they bought Phillips, same can be said for GE after they bought Kalatel. Marketing really cracks me up sometimes Now, this whole bosch is the best is Deja vue .. but thats okay, thats what this forum is for, opinions on various products and we need people with experience of all different brands. Im not coming down on Bosch, there is another salesperson on here posting the same with their product. And i've even made claim on Exview, though no particular brand. So what I would like to see are more image comparisons, will help people make up their own minds on products, or at least give them some more insight into the products performance other than the manufacturers specs, which are generally incorrect.

    What makes camera "true" day/night?

Here is an example of a camera with a mechanical Filter. Notice the 2 squares on the right, that is the part which slides from one side to the next, placing the filter in front of the CCD, or removing it.
  19. i never did any techical work in my life until one day i went out and trained for a month to install alarms then went on my own after that ... He's gotta WANT to do it otherwise its a waste of time .. buy him the LTC video, that might be easier to deal with ..
  20. update to XP SP2 then turn it off.

    Samsung SDC-415

Not really, because there a re so many different grades of CCDs and the camera itself also makes a huge difference on how well the CCD performs. Not all cameras work the same regardless of the CCD.

    How to reset Geo password?

Yeah ive been searching everywhere for it, but it must be hidden somewhere .. could be some file with another extension like .dll and they just encrypt it and then call it a different name ... its not in the registry cause i tried that .. anyway, no worries, found a program by Geo that does it. My Windows Search crashes so im using a Text Search program but that crashes the PC also if you try and search the whole HDD .. bummer .. ;-(
  23. STAM used to be the only one offering CCTV training online ... very well known company, never used them so cant comment other that that. When i first started i bought a book from LTC (Charlie Pierce) and it was a ton of help, oldschool CCTV mainly but thats best thing to start with .. i never did read the whole thing and lent it out and never got it back!! Arghh. Check out the LTC training videos though, they should be more helpful than an online course. Rory
