ACTi & other Streamer Questions
rory replied to eganson's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I imagine, just an idea though, that it is Acti's ISP, and they are hosting a relay or server there that serves a database for the newest firmware, or maybe something else like that. I dont think it could be considered Spyware, as perhaps its a way for the hardware to stay up to date with the latest firmware - eg. Nortons has Auto Live Update set to on by default unless you manually disable it, and so does Windows XP. Though still, there should be a setting to ask you if you want to do that or not automatically, or somewhere you should be able to turn it off at the least. Best bet would be to email them with the info and see what they say ... i have one of their email contacts here, if you like i can shoot them an email about it. Rory -
Static IP necessary?
rory replied to securitymonster's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Huh?? TZO is a DDNS service, so if you dont have a static IP, that is what it is designed for, auto updates your ISP's DHCP IP so you dont have to purchase a Static IP. I'm just curious what it has to do with the Acti Remote Software? -
they still open there ?

Fast Wirless Video Transmisson To Computer with Receiver
rory replied to Jasper's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
Only thing I can think of is something like Video Comm or Trango, for the analogue real time video, would need a TX and RX for each camera. If you mean sending the video back to the clients place then into the Geo system? Otherwise IP would mean creating your own wireless IP network, you may be able to do this if you get up high enough on each end. Would save on parts, Wireless Network - just connect like you would over a local network. -
exactly ... never heard of a cop here booking anyone for not stopping at a stop sign, they do have a high fine for running a red light, but if there arent any traffic cops on the streets then how will they ever know ...
-
stop sign ...? whats that .. he he .. here, everyone just comes out in front of you ...they rarely stop at the signs, hence i like my jeep, unless of course its a mack truck coming out in front of me ..

everyone runs the red light here, maybe we "need" some red light cameras here, or at least some cops at the lights to keep some sought of law and order ...

How do I determine amount of recording time?
rory replied to fas's topic in General Digital Discussion
Thats right, high quality color images will take up alot more space than BW images, this makes a huge difference especially when recording in highest resolution and real time.. -
i usually just turn the AC down a little . ..

How do I determine amount of recording time?
rory replied to fas's topic in General Digital Discussion
that depends on the DVR you are using, Compression used, and what Resolution the DVR is set to/capable of recording at. -
try telnet to the DVR and port, if not go then try connect to the router there if one exists, if it does and you can, then the connection is okay. If you cant telnet to the DVR then it has an issue. If you can telnet to it but cant connect with the remote software, then perhaps a username/password issue, or its hung. Its a HiSharp DVR we have used them and they hang alot over the network (crappy remote software or crappy hardware, dont know), i did a review on it a while back, i would stay as far away from that DVR as possible. Normally it hung after trying to playback recorded video over the network. http://www.hisharp.com/hisharp_eng/information02.asp?xCLASS1=2&xCLASS2=DVR&xCATNO=HS-DVR046 Ofcourse this was just my experience with that DVR ... it is rebadged by many companies that sell OEM gear. The antivirus part doesnt sound right, unless it is using Scripting and something like Nortons will block scripts, but you can turn that off in Nortons. Also Nortons Worm Blocking maybe blocking the program or ports, but if it worked before, then it should work now. I dont know that DVR, what error are you getting? Rory

PM me for link. Rory

RCA is probably an option but they generally all sell with BNC inputs. the Combo Card and DSP card also have a single analogue multiplexed RCA Output to a CCTV Monitor or TV.
-
yep, for real, ive had my cheap eclipse bullet camera up there a while now, and before that was a provideo, all on the same old cable and that cable is spliced with no tape and no BNC on it .. i kept taking it down or up or what not, last time i didnt have any tape, been exposed on the beach side for ever .. still works ..!! I dont even use BNCs at home anymore ... save them for the clients ..
-
he he, for home ..? i use a cheap (whatever I can rig or dig up) transformer plug ...

Stick to something like Altronix with normal fuses. Power is their business. Pthree are also great. The way I understand it those type of fuses are used in things like basic surge protectors ... (i could be wrong though im no power pro) -------------------------------- "Under normal operating conditions, strings of carbon particles conduct current while exhibiting a very low internal resistance." "When the fuse's trip or fault current is exceeded, the particle strings break up and disburse randomly followed by a rise in internal resistance of several orders of magnitude." "This rapid increase in resistance limits current flow to nearly zero, effectively protecting the downstream circuitry." "When the fault subsides or the power is removed, the Polyfuse cools and resets, returning to its pretripped state." --------------------------- Doesnt seem like much protection to me.

I-View vs Geovision vs Digiflower
rory replied to AMI's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
my friend had similar problems with the Eclipse PC systems, they only seem to work on windows 2000 as on XP you get an error, they lock you out of the bios (easy fix I know) and dont send any of the software that comes on it, also once you open the PC the warranty is voided! They have so many different boards and software for each different board, its just a mess. And the Linux PC version is too overpriced for what it is... ive been testing it and though its okay and well very very basic, just should be 1/2 the price. Im happy with the Geo for now, especially since i dont have to use the antique interface -
Not that many Installers/Dealers know a whole lot about CCTV, many are actually doing so many different industries that they only rely on their suppliers to tell them what to buy. Most DVRs can record for years ... yah know, 0.1fps, motion only, 320x240, 1TB HDD ..

basically, its a digital day night Box camera ... with SSNR. i personally havent tested it yet. if a magical camera comes out though ill be sure to "beam" it over to you Like I said though, from the advertising there, sounds as if that web page is geared towards DIYers who are used to Bullet cameras.
