    Light Meters

actually dont need the CM for that, just a video meter. But it shouldnt be that bad, are the BW cameras ok? Did you try turning down the SAT and HUE on all the BW cameras within the DVR software? What cable and connectors are you using? What brand of power supply is it? Low light will cause pixelising if the camera is not as sensitive as the surrounding light level. Also, once you use a TV or CCTV monitor at the DVR side, plug that camera into one of those, and see what image you get, if it is okay, then the camera is fine, you next need to look at the DVR settings. From experience i have had to turn down the SAT and HUE on BW cameras on the same DVR, normally the cheaper DVRs or Cards. Rory
  6. are they powered locally, as in the same building as the cameras, or at the DVR?

    A Good Spot Monitor

You need at least a 9" monitor to get a "proper" focus, just food for thought. Suggest focusing it on one of those before taking it to the location, use a viewfinder at the location prior to focusing so you can get the exact focal length required. You could use a UPS to power the monitor if you must do it in the location, but if not low light, it wont stay focused at night. though i'd like to try the goggles out as well .. they may just do it .. what size res do they produce to the eyes, been a few years since i used a set of those ..
  8. I've never got it myself. What brand of Power Supply are you using? Id start by suggesting an Altronix or PThree Power Supply. anyway, here's some added info on it, pelco has been pretty good in that area for many years: http://www.pelco.com/support/videosecbasics/groundloops.aspx "Not all ground loops show up as picture disturbances. Erratic or strange behavior of other devices can be traced to grounding problems. Remember, wires or connections labeled "common" or "neutral" are not mechanical ground connections even though they may be grounded within the equipment. Each should be treated as a separate wire and not allowed to touch ground or each other." "Many people will resort to shortcuts and try to remove the earth ground (which is the middle prong on a 3-prong electrical plug) from the camera or the associated equipment. Not only is this a very hazardous thing to do, it is also a violation of U.L. (Underwriters Laboratories) laws. When the earth ground is removed, a voltage could appear on the camera chassis. The camera will have what is called a "hot chassis" that can send 60 to 70 volts of electricity through anyone who touches it, which is enough to knock anyone off their feet."

    DVR needs a Ghost!

yeah i guess thats where i got it from Just cant remember the link now .. oh well you are straight, bob's Powerpoint docs are interesting also can you PM me the link actually when you get a chance, ive lost it months ago and dont want to bother GE for it at this time .. thanks
  10. why are you getting ground loops?

    DVR needs a Ghost!

yeah i have a copy here, dont ask where i got it from cause i cant remember, its just one of those things I havent had a StoreSafe or DVMRe to test it on, but the version of the Triplexe Uplaoder is from 05/2005 so it seems up to date. Its a very very basic VB program, from GE security. I couldnt get new HDDs to work with the DSR-2000's but i was told by a forum member in South Africa that he does it all the time, just swap out for another HDD and the DVMRe will auto detect it, once the HDD jumper settings are set correct. They also have some admin features via the webpage that allow you to upload/change images, etc, lots of farely unknown functions that most techs dont even know exist. Rory

    Room for Growth!

If the company has some cash lying around, buy a system for the company, full blown like 16 channels for example, real time, DVR, variations of cameras (check the forum for ideas) such as PTZ, Box, Dome, Day Night, Color, BW, Infrared, etc., some coax and some UTP Active Mixed, and even if you want to go a step further some IP camera gear. Once you get some hands on you will find quoting the jobs much easier. Its one thing quoting a job, but its another thing to actually install it properly using the correct equipment for the specific application. Also if you can help it, dont sell anything you haven't fully tested yourself first, makes life easier in the long run and less issues such as sending back gear that doesnt do the job. Lastly dont start off with cheap Bullet cameras, as it will not give you much actual hands on CCTV experience. Its good to have them as options for clients on a tight budget, but they take very little CCTV experience or knowledge to install. Rory

    DVR needs a Ghost!

yes it is doable, but not the way you mentioned. There is alot you can do with the New DVRs, I got info on it from another member here. I also have a program called DVR uploader (Triplexe Uploader) which contains the WaveBrowser and Quickwave tools and sends it to the DVR via IP address. I havent tested it on a DVR though and not sure if it works with the StoreSafe or not, though they are also considered Triplex DVRs so it should. Rory
  14. GE has a Public Monitor system which is an LCD wi+th a built in WD camera.expensive and not worth it i think. Wren Associates has dome housings, take a look at: http://www.wrenassociates.com Just hang them from the beams, as you need to get the camera below the lighting. That or mount the cameras on the walls.

  18. i use the current software, no SDK. Basically the live monitoring is easy, the view log is totally different though so requires some PSP work. Reason it is different is the built in command buttons are different in the new software compared to what we have. Once you get used to the commands and .ini files then it isnt that hard. The graphic work is the hardest part. Also the fact that there are so many unused images its hard to tell at first, what is what. This is actually the new Skin, for the new software, its just customized to work with the old software. Obviously I could spend alot more time and edit just about everything, even add in my own buttons and what not, but i liked their version Maybe took a few weeks on the initial skin (thats on and off, not straight through), including the ViewLog part, which was where all the time was spent. The 2 blue ones i just did tonight. i've only done this for 1024x768 NTSC for now as thats all i use. Geo's New Software is going to be really nice, this time they spent alot of time on the GUI, and other new features I imagine they are still ironing out. Rory
  19. And the Chrome View Log: This is all with version 7.04 btw.

    PowerTelecomm or Nuvico

http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=32148#32148 ps. this is a customized GUI not the current Geo GUI, though the new software version 7.1 will look generally like this one.

    Camera Line

Yep, isnt everyone .. the alarm monitoring co i used to work for, they are doing CCTV now, since i left them a few years back, and ofcourse they are always asking advice .. they're doing 20 other things as well so they dont spend the time with CCTV as i do ...

    PowerTelecomm or Nuvico

the clips on my home page are just cheap 380TVl OEM cameras, nothing special, the High Res cameras provide an even better image. I have a couple shots though I cant post them here or online, as involve "violence", email/PM me and ill send you them to check out.

    Light Meters

That Ganz camera and the GE XP1 are not for low light apps. They both require alot of light. The LCD monitor will make any image look grainer than a CRT, if you use a CCTV monitor it will be even better once using a DSP or even the Video Card's S-Video Output. Most PC DVRs now have options for DSP outputs. http://bahamassecurity.com/pc_setup_example.jpg Let him know those other locations have alot of light. If he adds more light, then he will get those "movie" type images. the only other option is to use a day night dome, such as the sanyo, it still pixelises some in lower light levels in color, but will switch to BW if it gets too low. Then if it really gets dark, you can throw up some IR illimunators for that. Ofcourse the cost is much more. Offer to sell him a Day Night dome at cost. Let him know the regular price, so he knows he is getting a deal. Just charge him the difference and sell the Ganz to another client for indoor retail surveillance. Or if he has alot of light at the main entrance sell him on placing it there. At the night club here we have color on the main entrance and car park, BW everywhere else, though have tested various low light color cameras to no prevail (including exview CCDs), merely testing purposes, always went back to BW. I have a Day Night Sanyo dome at one of the bars now, as it is an outside bar, they change the light levels also, so sometimes it gets pixelised and sometimes it switches to BW, though most of the time it stays in color. The indoor bars, we tried the same dome, but have to stick to BW as well it always stays in BW anyway, so would be a waste of money, plus we get a much higher qualuty image in the low light with a true BW camera.
