you wont see an ip in the router for embedded DVRs normally .. you must assign the IP manually in the DVR.

    millampes and camera?

thats fine, the important thing is not to have less milliamps than the camera is rated for.

Do you have a manual link for the DVR? Also, try what C7 said ... connecting from PC to the DVR .. You can also Telnet to the DVR to test the port .. Use the client software, if you are not sure it has an HTTP server (for browser) Something i just noticed, Geo has a Java Applet for the browser also .. its very limited though .. and kind of slow.
  5. yeah but if it wont go online then I cant see it .. unless you had 2 network cards ..
  6. whats your PCs IP address using DHCP enabled by default on the router? Command Prompt - IP Config If you are certain the router's IP is 192.168.1.1 then can you access that via the browser - http://192.168.1.1:8080 Id look at make sure the DHCP on the router is functioning, set up a static IP on your PC then try to access the router again. Also, check your Cat5 cable is good, try another one. Try another port on the router if still no go. if your online with it then its working? Set admin mode and lemmee see Rory
  7. personally i dont like the wireless routers, though they have worked they arent the same as the wired ones ... better to use a wireless access point with a wired router .. i mean i take it the DVR is connecting directly to the router with a cable ? If this is a home network (no DVR) though it should just work .. but you will need to run the setup CD on the PC that you are accessing it wirelessly from. hardwired cable to access it to do basic set up. IP range should be 192.168.0.1.
  8. i forgot to say, are you plugged in direct to it, or trying to access it wirelessly? either way, i take it you are using the CD that came with it? Rory
  9. ive had a couple linksys routers come bad from the factory .. mine included, i cant even use DHCP on mine i have here ..i have to set the PC's Ip for it to work .. Rory

try port 5000, and also port forward port 80 Some embedded DVRs you may have to enable DMZ for them, if you cant get it to work with port forwarding. Are you sure that DVR has an HTTP server? Do you have a link to it? Rory
  11. as for the card, only need 1 device in the device manager to show up with the cheap 4 channel cards, 1 for video, and 1 for audio if it has it .. thats what i had for the Geo 250 but it was using the Connexant driver, customized. Its not seeing the card as the driver installed is specilifically for the DVR software. .. would need to run BT Spy and customize the driver installation. As for the PTZ part, not sure .. Rory
  12. Hi, you would need a SVideo to RCA adaptor and then back to BNC with a RCA to BNC adaptor - not sure if there are SVideo to BNC adaptors available. But the DVR card is RCA or BNC inputs? The DVR Software definately needs the Composite inputs connected, such as RCA or BNC, depending on the card. I say Svideo as thats what i found on a couple google results. If you have the home page or data sheet/manual for this camera please post it. It seems like it is a Webcam though ? Unless it has Pelco protocols or something else used in the CCTV industry, you may be out of luck with using a DVR card with these, which is why most of us are stuck using CCTV PTZs. There is a sony that works though, I think it uses Pelco Protocols, its a video conference webcam PTZ also. Also, though i dont know WebcamXP in depth, but with most software that work with DVR cards it will still need to see a composite input, such as RCA or BNC, basically it needs a capture card. How are you connecting this camera to the DVR card? Once the camera is conected to the DVR card as a regular camera using a composite input, then you can treat it as such, and then uninstall any drivers that you already loaded, and look at the following link. http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=2021 I managed to get a Geo Vision card working with generic software, basically what I did is use BTSpy (also downloadable from the same link for the BTwincap software) and save the results as a text file. You must run the existing DVR card software with at least the one single camera conected to port 1 and active, following the BTspy directions, click on the channel as it asks. Then uninstall the DVR card drivers from the control panel, system, then run Bt drivers installer and select custom, select the text file saved from Btspy and then it should work with generic software, including WebCamXP, among others. Though i think your main issue is getting the DVR card to even recognise the camera first? Rory

    Licence plate

Nah stay away from the WizKid IR domes, no IR Cut Filters. Only come in the Extreme models, such as the EX45, EX40 and EX46.. MX versions, which is Day Night Exview, MNX versions include IR to approx 40'. The EX40MNX supposedly has new anti IR reflection built in, the reflection which is common in almost all other IR Domes. rory

    Licence plate

The Extreme CCTV EX46CX6VA408 camera at the side of the lane facing the driver and passenger window (not head-on) for capturing the driver of the vehicles. Then for licence plates, do they have their headlights on in this area? Or is it good enough lighting not to use them? If they use headlights, look at a Wide Dynamic Dome ... such as the Pano, though i dont know how good it is for wall mounting. If no headlights and alot of lighting (and no backlighting problems) then can use the same Extreme EX46CX dome above, or any other high res color dome. The CX versions are actually LXR CCDs which is also pretty good for getting rid of glare, from my previous test of an LXR camera. "LXR is short for the ELIXIR sensor … or Enhanced Light Integrity for extended Infra-Red spectral response. This new generation CCD marks a Quantum advance in photopic response, IR response and dynamic range. The benefits are clear: no blooming, no streaking, no smearing. The applications are extremely interesting: night vision, vehicle monitoring, high speed surveillance, license plate reading. The CX-Series are based on Extreme CCTV’s LXR sensor equipped with IR-cut filters to block IR effects. All CX. cameras provide crisp, vivid color with wide dynamic range and excellent low light performance. CX cameras are not intended for performance under infrared light." In any case you would probably need a 16mm lens but you should use a view finder to get the exact lens focal length requirement as depends on the distance from the Dome to the FOV. Ofcourse Extreme has the following camera designed for exactly the application you are talking about: (Guaranteed to work) http://www.extremecctv.com/products/index.cfm?img=38 There is also the WizKid WZ46K516 - 16mm fixed lens Color High Res Vandal Dome .. 360 degree gimble perfect for wall mounting, fairly inexpensive and 5 year non breakable guarantee. 15. Yep, check out my home page, thats with the current Geo software .. (non beta). Its the only GUI i use right now for my Geo systems .. haven't seen the green one in a long time. Its on the left lower side ... PM me for more info. As for the cards from Hong Kong, more than likely it is a pirated copy. They dont work with the newer sofware. Rory

If your remote computer can download and install the ActiveX, then you would also be able to download and install the full program. Depending on the software and the size of it, the non browser based software will generally be a better choice to use. Other than that, you would need to purchase a DVR that has an image push javascript type method for browser based remote video, such as Video Insight or Axis.

Im in an Article on Extreme CCTV

I dont know about the Panasonic as it doesnt say what Spectral Response it has. Im sure it must have some ... i just installed 3 Sanyo's in housings, with 3 Extreme IRs and worked well. Sanyo is rated up to 1100nm, I would need to get more info from Pano before I used it with IR. The wide dynamic technology may actually be an issue. Rory

    CCTV Book

i think my question would be who is "Herman Kruegle" and what is his experience in the CCTV industry over the past 30 years?
  20. i haven't heard of them until now, but thanks for the link
  21. with the VCR in, are you watching it on playback mode or live mode? I think it is doable but you would have to switch to playback mode to view and control the demuxed signal .. at least if using GE muxes .. theory only though. Rory
  22. Yeah, that sounds about right, though you would need to be in Play mode on the second multiplexer to display that video, as its coming in multipexed format on the VCR in (?) Just theory as ive never done it that way .. but would be good to know. What model Mux did you use? Ive used Kalatel Muxes in the past that worked well, now they are sold under GE Security. I still have some of them in the field, with single channel DVRs. Rory

yeah not sure also, they both seem to have those extension card thingies at the bottom of the page .. im not sure .. Rory
  24. Ok thanks, still 15fps per channel for 16 channels, for stand alone is very good. I generally ignore the lower resolutions myself. Rory
