    Geo-adding custom capture

you can get those thermastats that have a long line outside, so you could just put a cheap camera on the thermestat inside ...?

    Geo-adding custom capture

not sure i understand? You can shoot a camera on the thermestat so you can see it .. or do you want it to alert you when it reaches a certain temperature? If that is the case you can use a temp alert device that triggers when it reaches a pre programmed temperature .. we use them in the alarm world .. or do you just want to impose the temperature on an existing camera like POS style ..? rory

AV Tech 780W - Any Good?

Its a decent DVR for a budget system, the network software isnt great quality, but it works browser based and DDNS. Local quality seemed very good, recorded quality was "okay" but basically what you would expect in a budget recorder. Mjpeg is actually very good quality, slower though and takes up more space, but should be good quality. What type of cameras are you using .. whats the brand name? The recorder is only half the issue, you also need good cameras, and you basically get what you pay for with CCTV cameras .. Rory
  5. To me, Acti is a more professional product, Axis is so widely used by DIY and PC companies, it just killed itself in the pro industry. Also, hands down, Acti has much better specs.
  6. 8 camera quad means it only records/views 4 cameras at one time, switching .. honestly with the cost of DVRs today, there are some budget units that make it worthwhile using an all in one DVR over a quad DIY set up .. whats your budget, are the cameras okay, and would you ever want to add more than 4 cameras? rory

    Price of Gas

So its now $4.20 here in nassau ... what about you guys?? And do you raise your charges as the gas price goes up?

    Price of Gas

everyone is switching over to diesel over here, dirty as heck but cheap on fuel.
  9. COP gear are really toys, scrapped them a few years ago, you would want to look at VideoComm or Trango for decent analogue wireless. If there are alot of points, and want to add on in the future, then you would want to go IP wireless, ends up being cheaper and less parts used. You can use network switches and single subscriber units to cover a few wireless points, access points can handle for example 7 subscriber units each. It all depends on which Wireless IP gear you use. Rory

DSP output from a PC DVR card goes to the CCTV Monitor, the IR remote lets you control the views and camera live views on the CCTV Monitor. if you dont have a local PC monitor, or dont want to use one, you can also use the output from the ATI Video card to the CCTV Monitor B or C (SVHS) inputs, and this gets you playback on the CCTV Monitor locally, in high quality. You would need a PC Monitor initially to clone the view to the CCTV Monitor. Once the system is initially set up with a mouse and keyboard, all you need to use from there on is the IR remote ... so its very simple. For evidence sharing, thats where the PC DVR rules still ... remote or local. Saves in AVI files. No external viewer required. Basically live quality was always an issue with the PC DVR, but when you use a DSP Card Output, and a CCTV Monitor, then the quality is the same in live view as would be on an analogue system, and then you have the best of both worlds as you have the evidence sharing higher quality and more features of the PC based. When i say IR Remote im talking about the GeoVision System i currently use. Rory

frame rate to 15 FPS GV-600

i noticed that too, what to do is if in View Log or in Remote Playback, open the recorded file and then click save as AVI ... it then saves it in its normal speed .. Rory
  13. do you have a link to the product you have? if it is regular video on the RCA cables then all you would need are RCA-BNC adaptors and plug into the quads 4 inputs .. output going to the TV like before. Really depends on what unit you have now, but it is doable. Rory
  14. we talking analogue wireless or IP wireless? IP wireless will use much less parts, whereas analogue wireless needs a TX and RX for each camera.

you could get a PC system with a DSP card and an IR Remote, to control the camera views you only need the IR remote .. even can use a CCTV monitor for high live quality, the IR remote controls the view on that also. This way you can get real time high res video ... and have the higher quality evidence sharing.

I cant speak for the DVR you have, but the evidence sharing quality is better on a PC based generally, though the live view is not as clear as a stand alond non PC DVR, unless you are using a DSP card. And if you are going to use an LCD monitor you will loose additional quality. So what you heard is half true and half wrong .. You should be getting great local playback on the DVR, does it have a quality setting?? Make sure it is on High quality, though you wont get a month probably on that, 24/7. unless you drop the frames down. Once again i dont know that DVR, just going by one ones I have used.

    what software to use

unless you are going to buy the equipment and software to do it properly, you may want to just take the tape to a professional. The software alone isnt cheap.
  18. get it in white (neater) if the area is not covert, black jacket for covert.

    Too good to be true?

seen it before but i dont believe this line, unless it is embedded windows. "30fps per channel (NTSC) at 720x480" (looks like a retail price)
  20. dont know, but here is a 16 channel version, they claim only 1500', but maybe the single channels can go much further. http://www.nvt.com/products/NV_1662BNC.html their distances without amps looks about right, though i read somewhere that RG59 can do 1200'.
  21. what g-men said ... you can simply do video out from the monitor as you are playing it back (or from the mux), that video out would go to a regular VCR (or TV/VCR), click record on the regular VCR when you want to record what's playing from the mux. I have a client that lives by this method, as its all the courts can use here.
  22. i've tested it out, but havent had a need for it as yet.
  23. You need the same brand of multiplexer to demux the tape, as it is multiplexed recording on the tape, which simply is super fast switching video of each camera. Just playing it back in a time lapse VCR will show you fast switching video, nothing useful. The multiplexer demultiplexes the video when you play it back, so you see it on each channel in time lapse. You can also look for a general demultiplexer, but they can cost a small fortune.
  24. Interesting, though at least here in the Bahamas, wont find many owners sitting down to search through the POS transactions, thats if they even have a POS system, most have old registers down here, even one of the largest food store chains here. But im going to check out the gas stations as they do use POS with their pumps, and i know someone that fixes all the Esso and Shells equipment here (pumps, electric, etc) As for False alarms, well i cant wait for that motion detection feature Also, i use Dual Beams where i want less false alarms, and door contacts rarely ever false, however its probably the cheap "lick and stick" alarm jobs that have 1 motion where they have a lot of issues. Most problems i ever had was trouble from a low battery in a wireless device .. down here at least .. . Good info on your site, alot of useful docs, I need to take a look through them ... thanks, keep it up .. Rory

    March Networks DVR

Hard to get pricing on when i was looking at them, that put me off quick, cause that means i couldn't get support either. I got contacted regarding filling out a detailed form for pricing from a rep, a few months later .. Otherwise looked like okay software .. only thing that looked unique was the wall mount DVR panels that resembled alarm panels, thats what i was looing at them for actually. Rory
