I need couplers for the 12v power supply. Where can I buy?
rory replied to xan021's topic in Security Cameras
The power adaptors pull off easily. You can tape them though .. but i prefer my own splice, i only use the terminal strips in a drop ceiling. -

You can cut them like Scott said, and if you dont want to splice them together, just buy a terminal strip from rat shack and cut it into blocks of 4's .. + and - on either side, screw terminals. These actually come with some manufacturer's cameras. The European Style ones here, easy to cut in blocks of 4 http://www.radioshack.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=terminal%20strip&kw=terminal+strip Rory -
i guess id go with a cheap BW bullet, that way works in low light, and is cheap enough for the budget clients ...

screw cameras, and pinhole board cameras do they?
rory replied to blowrabbit's topic in Security Cameras
The GE PIR camera is just that, a pinhold board camera. Just it is considered a covert camera as it looks like something useful. -
He may not have checked his PMs ... it will stay in your out box until he clicks on it in his inbox. Rory

the one ive used here, was basically featureless. May as well get an Embedded Linux Stand alone at that point. No real time also, not in High Res anyway, windows only still. At least not from what i have seen out there .. havent really done any major searching on it though.

GV800 - 120fps cards. When you get over 4 channels its not that budget anymore I was looking at some cheaper 8 and 16 channel cards, but why 8 when a buck more you can get a 16, and also, too many issues, like high CPU usage .. among others. Maybe a cheap stand alone for those guys .. like the AvTech 16 channel (not the Mpeg4 one). Rory

i dont know about the GE UTP gear as never thought about using it (price) .. but check the NVT site out, tons of info. With their gear Cat5 is the better of the 2, but you can also use a multi pair Cat3 cable if you want, just get slightly less distance. http://www.nvt.com Rory

mobile/ PDA remote viewing confusion
rory replied to washmaster's topic in General Digital Discussion
Ive used Pocket PC to remote video before, totally wireless. As for the phones, they dont work here. -
What scott said. Also can mount them on a 4-5' pole near the building, they come with different lenses, so pick the correct one for the distance, eg. 16mm, 25mm, etc. Also, you dont want to mount them too high.

newbie here, looking to build 16 channel system
rory replied to eva01's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Basically think of it as 3 types of systems. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Budget - Cheaper Cards - Normally 2 and 4 channels - also made by same brands or software from same DVR companies that make the higher end systems: Computer can have a VIA chipset and use anything above 1.7Ghz Celleron, 256MB DDR Memory, 64MB DDR On Board Video. Approx HDD Size - 120GB. Approx PC Retail Price - $250-450. General - Mid Range Cards - Normally not real time, more like 16 channel 120fps cards (7.5fps per channel), for example: Computer could be an Intel or SIS Chipset (and others, depending on the card used) and use anything from a 2.4-2.8Ghz Celleron, 512MB DDR Memory, 128MB DDR Video. Approx HDD Size - 250GB. Approx PC Retail Price - $650-850. Industrial - High End Cards - Real time, such as like 16 channel 480fps cards, for example: Computer would be an Intel Chipset and use anything above 3.0Ghz, 1GB DDR Memory, 256MB DDR Video Card. Approx HDD Size - 500GB. Approx PC Retail Price - $1050+ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Card requirements may vary. Suggested base specs only. Hard Disk Drive Sizes vary. dependant on length of recording required, as well as DVR and codecs used. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Regardless of the Specs, it is also important to tweak the PC's Operating System properly. This helps to maintain stability and guarantee reliability. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Motion Recording lengthens the recording time. Low or Mid Resolution Recording lengthens the recording time. Proper Lighting Lengthens the recording time. High Quality Cameras Lengthen the recording time. B/W Cameras Lenthen the recording time. High Resolution Recording shortens the recording time. Continous Recording shortens the recording time. Pixelising shortens the recording time (eg. Cheap cameras, Low Lighting). Fluctuating Lighting shortens the recording time. Color Cameras shorten the recording time. -
dvr card & software recommendation?
rory replied to deor's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Yep i started off with 7.0 ... thats what i was using i guess .. rory -
wouldnt work on my Via ;-( Also had a brand new Via mother board and had to switch it to a SIS as the DSP card wouldnt work at all. Well worked but had issues .. quality was not good and lighting was messed up. The GV250 works fine on my Via though. (HP/Compaq AMD2000, 512DDR, ATI 128DDR)
