    Monitor Suggestions

the matrix switchers would be analogue and then require a CCTV monitor, other wise yes loss in quality converting it to VGA.

    DVR - TV

if its a stand alone DVR it will always be the main monitor out. Spot is only for a single view of 1 camera input or sequencing.

    Is Geovision the best?

Its sais so on the CD Ofcourse there are other cards and software such as Video Insight, etc, that are very good. I Don't think any one DVR software can claim they are the best there is, including Geo. Actually, i just had another 30fps DVR card in my Via Chipset PC, 2.0 Athlon with 512DDR ... it would use average 60% CPU usage .. 1 camera .. with Nortons System Works 2005 in the bg. Anyway, i switched to the GV250-2 channel card, added an extra camera, and it hovered around 24%. Its staying around 15% now with 1 camera. The cards are solid, the software is getting better .. the GUI that is. Its got what I need, full screen auto login on boot up, in a user mode so they cant touch the main system, Higher Quality at 720x480, and decent evidence sharing features. Plus it will have Multi site (up to 64 way) Remote software, any day now. Rory

    DVR - TV

yes .. plug into the AV input .. or use a RF modulator and set to a channel from something for example. 69-114. You can also create multiple views, as the RF mods come in 1-4 channel versions. For this you need a DVR with a composite output .. (BNC). If using a PC DVR, then either the Video Card Output, or much much better, a DSP card output, which is analogue high res. BTW the average Video Card output is not that great quality, but the DSP is great. A CCTV monitor will be greatest quality, and if using a TV, direct AV input will be better quality than a RF Modulator. Rory

    Housing Horror

I havent used the heater versions, but the good ones arent cheap. Im going for the GE housing as Ive used that in the past, and i "know" it will work, have a few in the field for going on 5 years now, no dust or rain inside, and been through a couple hurricanes ..plus it is ABS plastic so easier to paint black. Its more expensive than this one,"retail" pricing would be around $160 or so Id liek to say again, i have used the APW housings in the past, just not this model, I actually used the Car park type model .. was totally different, and much larger, worked out great inside a warehouse upside down 75' up Rory

    Kalatel Boot Loop

I think both his drives are shot .. thats a 5400 right Yes they require 5400rpm drives, or a power upgrade kit for the DVMRe. Or you could always try a normal PC power supply, and a 7200rpm drive and see what you get. Make one Master and the other Slave by the way, at least that is how they do the new ones. rory

    Upload blues

Bahamas: Cable (i wont even mention DSL!) Residential Unlimited Lite - 512kb/s upload speed 2Mb/s download - $36.95 Unlimited Rock - 1Mb/s upload and 4Mb/s download speeds - $69.95 Businesses: Start at: $99.95 per month for basic package, which is slower than the residential. You can pay around $500-1000 a month for a 512kb/s upload for a business, and they have leased lines and much faster stuff too, big $$. ALl this PLUS cable TV itself for residential is $30 a month, $50 a month businesses.

    Kalatel Boot Loop

You can just pull the power, it doesnt use a windows type OS so no file issues. Obviously if it is done excessively over and over for a long period it may damage the HDD, but just what you are doing, nope.

not all DVR card manufacturers offer DSP Cards though.

    Monitor Suggestions

Then no, unless you are going to also have a DSP card (analogue output), which can use a TV or CCTV Monitor via RCA output, then you would want to use a PC monitor.

    Progressive Scan Cameras

they claim 2cif for DVRs while we are using 4CIF now. Axis is on a sales pitch, thats all. They are going to use the worst CCTV camera they can find. An Example of what Im taking about would be Covi. Ive also seen some Progressive Scan Zoom Camera Modules also. They have Composite outputs for analogue CCTV. As for catching a person in a moving car, thats what shutter speeds and deinterlace is for thanks Rory

    Monitor Suggestions

More Robust, designed to be left on 24/7 52 weeks a year, though with older models and even new ones, you can still get image burn in. Higher quality also, using Composite Outputs from the DVR, compared to a VGA monitor with a PC. is the new system PC based or Standalone, what brand/model is the new system?

    Monitor Suggestions

Yes they are industrial monitors, if they are still good keep them, if they are old replace them. Basically if you are using analogue systems, they are the type you want for best quality.

    Black Camera Housings

done that already on 2 housings, recently and in the past, never came out good, had an auto shop paint it in the end, the last time, and was good, but rather not have to go through that .. its tedious and time consuming down here. Extreme is supposed to have one early 2006, same as the EX82 type housing, which will be good, course the price .. dunno yet. But i need them now .. anyway Im going to look at the BlackHawke and also the GE Housings, as the GE ones are ABS plastic which should be easier to paint, if the BlackHawke wont fit my cam .. thanks Rory

Help with Geovision software for remote view

download this program i wrote, copy to USB jump drive, floppy, whatever, its small (531kb), when you run it, click on the 2 buttons one at a time, it will install the Geo Codec and also the v7.0 activeX which works for all versions. If you had previous versions that may be causing problems, check the "fresh" box for a clean up of other versions. http://www.bahamassecurity.com/geo/GeoFix.zip
  24. When using 12VDC it will require more amps when the IR comes on, if it was 24VAC it wouldnt matter. Plus make sure your cables are the correct gauge. Example would be the Extreme CCTV EX82, specs 1amp power supply required, but if you use 12VDC it requires 2amp when the IRs come on. I Learned this the hard way too. Rory
