Do you already have a distributor where you buy from? If you have a distributor already, well we have many of them on this forum also that can get you anything you need, regardless of that, what products are you looking at that your distributor carries, what is your market area, budget or high end? #1 - Forget Ebay if you want a professional system. You want a distributor that can offer a warranty, as, like me, returning the product to the manufacturer with custom duties, etc, is a waste of money and your time. A good distributor that can handle warranties is a must. #2 - The Cheaper the product, not always, but more than often, the more likely it is to fail and you have to deal with alot of work shipping it back, and dealing with customs again ... look for a mid to high end product, or even if it is OEM, deal with a product that has a low failure rate - get some stats if you are going to buy OEM, if you can, either from here, or other installers. #3 - GVI is a Samsung Company, but there are several Samsung Companies, GVI is basically OEM products, they have some okay products, nothing amazing though - Samsung Techwin has the better products in my "opinion", though they cost more, still not my personall choice. It sounds like you have been targetted by the Miami distributors? the rest. I know your Customs issues, we deal with them here, I cant even sell the a 16 camera Eclipse system (cheapest) for $4K local, more like $10K at the least. If you dont want to name names (i suggest against it in the public forum), PM or Email me ... and I'm sure I can help you in some way. Thanks Rory.

IP Streaming devices
rory replied to cctv_down_under's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
did you check out the Acti Video Servers? Real time with 1 channel servers, if using 2 or 4 channel servers it breaks down the speed though. But only requires 1.5mbps for full D1 Real time video, which is good. Depends what they are willing to pay for, after doing 48 hours with no sleep, searching every IP rep/co/manu, most of them are the same anyway, i found the Acti gear to have the best specs .. never used them myself so thats as far as ill go on that -
Do you have a link to the camera spec sheet? Most will say whether it can take 28vac .. for example they may say 18-30VAC ... If it only can accept 24VAC then 28VAC may eventually fry the camera. Rory

Yep, but what I am saying is, if you get brownouts or voltage dips, spikes, and whatever, without a voltage regulator, the HDD stands a good chance of getting damaged, and ofcourse so do other parts of the DVR, be it PC or Standalone. You guys generally have great power in the US, so less worries. Here, forget about it If i take my PC off my VR (ive had since 1996 BTW), my HDD or other things stand a great chance of getting fried, ive done it a couple times, lost an HDD, and the other time it was just on the surge strip, lost a CD Drive Cable, and totally lost the Zip Drive. These alll happened when the power dipped, hung on low for a while, then came up and went back off again .....we get that every 2 days at least during the summer, they claim they are working to improve it, a few summers later, still as bad or worst, its called OLD equipment. It happens to clients Alarm Panels and PCs all the time, moreso this summer as we had horrible power dips this summer and daily blackouts and brownouts. Some people are lucky here, but generally it is a gamble. Everyone i know has a VR now, they wont run their electronics without it, all have seen the damage caused without using VRs. All my clients DVRs and Cameras are on VRs at this point so they are safe. Bottom line is if it is not on VR, then dont blame the unit, whatever it is, for failing, if it is on a VR and it fails, then blame away

$20 a day in the jeep, $10 a day in the car, so im back in the car mostly .. anyway, Texaco just dropped their price right down from $4.95 to $3.80 today !! So guess after Esso and Shell notice they are loosing business, they will HAVE to drop it also

Yep, you guys have good power in the US, but cant blame the HDD if it isnt on a Voltage Regulator .. poor HDDs get blamed for everything BTW, there is a way to change the HDD yourself on the DVMRe Triplex, but has some requirements.
-
those 480fps are PC based, not embedded RTOS. Did you have the DVR on a Voltage Regulator? Without it you do stand a chance of loosing the hard drive, on anything, PC or DVR. Its just a chance, could have been a faulty hard drive or could have got damaged in shipping - drop the hard drive or knock it hard - and its finished. Done that before with PCs ...

Hey, give it a whirl, you could always use the monitor on your PC, or resell it to someone else, if it doesnt do what you want ..? Its still a TV ..
-
If using a stand alone DVR with a composite output, the LCD, no matter which one you buy, is going to be pixelised, same goes for a CRT PC Monitor. If you find one that is great quality like a CRT CCTV Monitor or even a CRT TV, then would appreciate a link I have just used so many LCDs with so many different stand alones using composite outputs, and the quality is just awful, well then i AM used to CRT CCTV monitors and even CRT TVs, clear crisp quality though, well moreso on the CCTV Monitor. Ive also used several convertors, and they were just as bad, or worse in many cases. The little 15" Sharp LCD TV was the best ive seen though, however it still doesnt match a CRT CCTV Monitor or CRT TV quality. Remember I am talking about a composite output, if the DVR has a VGA output then thats a whole different ball game. BTW the CRT PC monitor is also bad with a Composite output. BTW BTW, ive also used LCDs with BNC inputs, and same bad quality. Rory

Which is best hardware and software kodicom or geovision?
rory replied to MRWHITE35's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Kodicom is good also, they dont sell cards, you will need to buy a ready built system from a Kodicom Rep. Geo Sells cards, and also you can buy ready built systems from a Geo Vision Rep. -

Cam Wizard isnt a professional program, so who knows what issues you are going to get with it .. in fact, it was one of the worst ones i tested. -
the conexant one, generic card, customized SDK could be from a number of guys. That card is used for many many manufacturers, its the BT878. The software looks like a customized SDK, probably from Digiflower, or even Simtex, as all the features are the same. Locate the main .exe for the server software, and right click properties, see if it has a name for copyright or company, that normally helps. Better yet, post a link to download the software Let us know your current supplier also, as that can help us determin what it is. Rory
