But wont stream the audio, couldnt find out if there was another port needed to forwarded or not? I dont know the exact model but it is a 16 channel. Thanks Rory

    Please advise on cheap DVR

what are you looking to spend approx? Eclipse does have a day night with a mech IRcut filter, thats the only one that will look any better from the clover, as otherwise they are all the basically the same manufacturers or designers. The IR on those are pretty useless unless its just for indoors. You can also check out KT&C KPC-N600H1 and KPC-N600H2 as they are resonably priced having an mech IR Cut Filter. Provideo has the CVC-7706DNV. To really get rid of the pixelisation and if this is outdoors, you will need to use high powered IR such as Extreme, lots of outdoor lighting, or Low Lux BW. To get a good color day image for a day night camera, you will also need a Day Night camera with an auto or mech IR cut Filter. Exview color will pixelise, its a trade off to see in such low light while staying in color mode. SuperHad, not as many work for low light so less pixelisation, depending on the particular SuperHad chip. The Color IR cameras such as that clover you posted a link to, are simply digital color/mono cameras that have a very limited level of sensetivity in mono mode, which is why they dont even utlize the IR they have all that well. They also dont have any auto or mech IR cut filter. I cant remember the Eclipse model will have to wait until it comes back up.

    Slow laptop

I have a laptop someone gave me to check out tonight... okay ive done everything software wise, ive done everything that would normally make this flying .. there is no spyware and no viruses, trust me on that, its what I do best. Ive tweaked it to the heck, hardly any services running at all. Do you think it is bad hardware, and if so, what hardware can it be. The HDD is not making abnormal noises. Only thing I havent done is reformat and reload windows ... but there is nothing else running now, except windows .. and some new Nortons softare I loaded. Everything (including Nortons) is taken off start up. I dont get any typical memory errors. Its only maybe less than a year old, a Toshiba. Im thinking it might be the onboard video card or even the HDD? Only thing else I can think to do is delete the partition, format, and reload windows XP, short of it being a Hardware issue. What do yall think?? Ive run the following checks in addition to manual stuff: Win Doctor - all okay Virus Scan - all okay Spybot S&D - all okay Scan Disk - all okay Defrag - done the main HDD all okay thanks. Rory
  4. Also, alot of PC DVR cards offer an Analogue Multiplexer Output normally called a DSP, either as a seperate card, or a combo card with the DSP RCA Output. It will give you real time live video and high quality. Ive only tried the one from Geo, but others like Iview, Eclipse, etc. have it also.

    Cameras with Audio

http://www.louroe.com/mics.asp you can run normal 2 pair telco for these, different mounting types. I use the Verifact-A alot. Cheaper OEM cameras still come with audio, just not the higher quality brand cameras. Rory

    Elan Cameras

Never heard of it, but Canon makes a camera called Elan, not a CCTV Camera though. http://www.epinions.com/content_71744851588

    Please advise on cheap DVR

It wont matter, all cheap IR cameras will do the same ... Rory
  8. Dont know if most people realise, but Extreme also sell their camera technology in box type and Board type, with 1/3 or 1/2", BW for IR (SX), Color with Wide Dynamic (CX), and Day Night for IR with Wide Dynamic (MX) http://www.extremecctv.com/products/index.cfm?page=1&fam=16 Just a heads up .. I need someone to contact me regarding a wireless application here in the bahamas, its 18 cameras wireless, and 14 analogue, NVR or DVR, IP or other, Doesnt matter, the client needs real time (or near real time) and the least amount of equipment as possible .. Manufacturers taking their sweet time to get back to me via email, and I just need to get this done, its a big job if anyone is interested, please let me know. Thanks Rory

    Slow laptop

All services are stopped, i mean its tweaked like my DVRs, super fast, or at least the software is perfect. No CPU usage, its just slow. Has to be hardware, its not mine so im giving it back to them to take back to whereever they bought it from. Since its a laptop im not going to open it up, no parts here to replace with and might not get it back together . thanks for the posts though guys.
  12. Quality isnt that great at a couple feet. Dont know about distance though.

    Slow laptop

No guys, nothing to do with Virus or Spyware, Ive manually dealt with areas related to Spyware, its 100% clean. I can only figure either Windows is somehow corupt, or its a hardware issue. It does get very very hot underneath it.

    Geovision remote playback problem

Like andy said, is this with the RP software, or the browser based. Personally I wouldnt use the browser myself for this, but let us know. If it is the Softare itself, uninstall and delete any software related to it, delete the program file. Reinstall and see what happens. Worst case scenerio PM us something to test remotely. Rory

    DM Sprite 2

Kalatel, AKA GE Security, has a 3 year warranty. I thought DM had 3 years also? Anyway, im not saying anything besides between the 2 of them, the GE is a better buy on this side of the Globe, for not only does it cost less, it is produced in the US and uses a True RTOS embedded system. It does use a third party board but the nitty gritty is done in the US such as soldering the BNC connectors on, programming the RTOS, etc. Back up is similar between the 2 of them, and actually DM has more PC type features such as a choice of which storage to use. Personally though I would build myself a decent WinXP PC system before buying the DM. As for the other issues, I could only locate a set up manual on their web site, no actual user manual. As for languages we speak Englist over here And for passwords, it actually has more options than the GE for that, but then its just embedded Linux, not RTOS linux or RTOS nucleus Okay so basically it is still a decent DVR, just there are better choices for the North American Market.

    PTZ / Zoomed in shots?

Can a PTZ zoom 1000' away? I dont think ... at least not 18X which zooms around 100'-150', cant see a 25X doing much more. Probably need a 50-750mm varifocal lens, they can cost quite a bit also. You need light, or it can pixelize, even BW mode, if its too dark it wont see anything. Look at adding light, or even Infared if they want it more discreet. When you say vehicle details, hopefully that doesnt mean licence plate? Rory

    Newbie: CCTV via USB

IS this for a laptop? You could also buy a USB DVR ... thing is if you want to record 24/7 then you will need to keep it dedicated .. otherwise on and off like on a laptop for private investigation, would be okay.

    DM Sprite 2

Its basically a PC with the Linux OS on it .. from what I have seen it is not RTOS linux, and their DVR software is on the HDD ... that really sucks. And this is what it is using BTW - http://www.altera.com/
