well I just replaced the hard drives in a Kalatel DSR-2000, they were 2x Maxtor 160GB Drives, its juts plug and play. Hermin, with any embedded unit, the OS is not on the HDD.

im oldschool, tape my cutters to the end of the cable and trow it!! Yippie

CCTV cameras have BNC video outputs, so you would need a BNC-USB interface.
-
That doesnt make sense. If it is an Embedded Unit, as they claim, then the RTOS will be in the EPROM not on the HDD.

Since i dont have a non disclosure with webgate or their partners, okay check this out. http://www.boschsecurity.us/index.aspx?prdctid=3299 Uses the WebGate software, same exact software, same as the Hunt software. So anyone know why Bosch is using WebGate's software? WebGate has been out before bosch had this software, perhaps they are partners or something now? http://www.webgateinc.com/wgi_htdocs/eng/dist_eng.html You Decide .. http://www.bahamassecurity.com/gallery/Bosch/bosch2.jpg http://www.bahamassecurity.com/gallery/WebGate.htm Obviously you get the warranty with Bosch, etc, and the product hardware case itself looks a little better Plus im 100% sure its a great product. When i find things i post them, sorry

Since yall on the subject, I quoted 32 Acti Video Servers, they do D1 at 30fps, at 1.2mbs approx, 1.5mbps max, with MPEG4-ASP. They are converting analogue cameras to IP to use with a 1U Server. However it is an internal network only at this time .. so internet bandwidth is not an issue just yet. I would be using MileStone software with it if they choose to use the 1 LCD, or if they choose 2 monitors at 16 each, which would be better, then either MileStone or even just the Acti Software that comes with the video servers. They come with an SDK so Ill play with that also Also I would be using Wireless Access Points and Subscriber units with network switches . .. for at least 18 of them.

WebGate Inc is the manufacturer of WebGate's products ... they had those DVRs and the Cam Manager Software out for years, before bosch bought Phillips Burley. Way back then Phillips was actually using Kalatel's WaveReader Software for their DVRs. They didnt switch the units and from WaveReader until Bosch bought out phillips. Rememeber Bosch is still a new puppy with the CCTV gear, compared to others, to make things work that quick, sometimes it helps to buy a ready made board, then just work on the software and outer casing side, etc. From what I can tell, WebGate makes all the video servers that others like the asian link I posted, sell, as well as Hunt of course. WebGate only sells to large distributors or OEM branded, as does Active-Tek, they make their products and OEM it out to others. Now, who writes the Software, is another story .. that could be anyone .. Not all Bosch software looks like that, but that 4 channel's software is exactly Identical down to the T .. Now you know I would never get a reply from either of them regarding that, and if I did, it would be, "why ofcourse we manufacture and write our own software" If you ask me, but thats only if you ask me, the partners on WebGate's links are major partners that buy bulk OEM boards and powerful SDKs. They then make the actual case and other parts themselves. Look at it this way, GE which use to be Kalatel, uses Power PC boards, which are customized by Accelerated Technology and loaded with the Nucleus RTOS on chip. GE makes their own cases, solders on the BNC connectors, etc, all that fun stuff, and write their software to work on the Nucleus RTOS. Actually if you look at WaveReader the Network Software they use, it doesnt even say it is a product of Kalatel or GE, actually another company I wont name. But that is the Network Software, not the DVR software .. Its hard to tell but there is always a main maufacturer of the hardware somewhere, and a software developer living in their own kingdom making a killing off us while we juggle between who made this or who made that And since they signed a paper saying they wont tell or they loose all that money, they will never tell us who they are ..Arghhhh!

Welcome and Thanks QED!! it certainly helped

Which product would you suggest ... with the onboard HDD .. thanks Rory

I wouldnt bother with a dome then. But if you are getting a bullet camera, make sure it is 1/3". Provideo has some 1/3" High Res Bullets, the CVC-637 is color with 3.6mm 1/3", and 470TVL. Once you have lighting on all the time it will work, if not or if it is low light, then you would be looking at something like an Exview Color, or a BW camera. It may be over your budget though. But basically you want to look for a 1/3" Camera to get a wide angle. The GE KTC-815 will work, just you need a lens also, for florescent lights id suggest an auto iris, but main thing is use 24VAC if you are going to use a camera like that for best results. The GE would still be over your listed budget , time as you add the lens also. Also takes some setting up like focus and dip switch settings. The bullet is plug and play, just need to be able to position it You might want to look at one of the Ganz cameras if you are going for a box camera, will be cheaper than the GE and just as good really. Basically for a box camera like these, dont buy a budget lens, as then the camera will be a waste of money, cause then you could have just used a Bullet camera and saved time setting up. Rory

What exactly are you looking at? I dont think you will need high resolution but let us know why you want it? Also, does it need to be color? Whats the purpose of the camera? Id think a 420TVL BW camera in a dome should suffice to look at what the dogs are doing. Another thing you need to look at, what type of system are you using or going to use? You could buy the best camera in the world (if one existed) but still what system you use will make a huge difference of how good the image looks, and the quality it records at. Those are box cameras, good cameras, Ive used the GE one, but then like griffon said, lens, mount, maybe housing incase the dogs are large and try to knock it down. A dome would be better so if the dogs slobber over it you can wipe the slime off easy Is this a Dog house like outside in the yard, or a room in the house? Rory

kalatel cyberdome on a vcl/maxcom/ademco/honeywell matrix
rory replied to Kamei's topic in Security Cameras
I think you might need this. Also the Honeywell DVR will need to support the Kalatel Protocol. http://www.ge-consultantlink.com/Docs/ktd_312_prd.pdf -

Just so you know, i just quoted a client $75-100K for a 32 camera system, and you need 200? I hope you have a decent budget for the cameras .. 200 cheap OEM cameras would be alot of headache when half of them dont work .. Also, the remote video quality that i saw with the Vpon units were not that clear, but it was java inside a browser so the client softcould be different. Also, whats a class 1 brand?
