  1. no budget or mid range units with h.264. In any event, you will need multiple monitoring stations to cover 800-1600 cameras. Only thing mid range that I can think of that does multi site is WebGate inc, but it uses Wavelet so slow over the internet, though higher quality locally. To cover that many cameras, and high quality, you are looking to spend major dollars. If you could get a DVR with MPEG4 and an Activex or SDk, at least you would be able to make custom remote software to view multiple DVRs in multi screen displays as you need. Besides the big brands or PC based, thats the tricky part. Rory

    Please advise on cheap DVR

Depends what you want or need, it will definately have many more features and be real time display and recording. You need to also know something about PC software and hardware which it appears you do. Also make sure the memory is at least 256Mb (DDR), even better 512MB (DDR), and the video card at least 64MB DDR, better yet 128, and seperate video card is best. For clients I normally spend around $700-1200 on the PC, though ive gotten away with an old 1.5Ghz celleron for my own testing of a couple cards.

You could get a SIS chipset Mobo for under $100 and switch it out, load XP clean and good to go. Rory
  4. Actually in low light conditions, a simple BW bullet camera (or exview BW bullet) is a good choice, unless you can afford a Day Night with a mechanical IR Cut Filter, which means it blocks out the IR in the day for brilliant color imaging, and turns the flter off in the dark when it switches to BW, for more sensitivity and IR pickup. These are generally known as TRUE day night cameras and can come in Bullet cameras, domes, and box cameras, but they are not cheap.
  5. You would have to keep the camera right up against the glass, and dont scratch the glass, to get a housing type effect. If you go back from the glass you "can" get glare from sunlight due to back lighting effects, and night time you may see nothing at all except for the glass. You could try it, get some compact cameras, if it doesnt work out, you could then look at some of the Wren Dome housings, or similar, and place the cameras outdoors inside them. Only thing is, cheap OEM box cameras wont neccassarily be that great, especially with handling light, cheapest you can get in a decent brand is the Ganz which are very good, especially for the price. You could look at some cheap color bullet cameras to start with, they are pretty covert, then upgrade from there as you can afford it, use BW bullets where it is low light.
  6. I would rethink placing it inside looking out, only cameras that may work okay, is a wide dyanamic camera, such as the Ganz Box camera which is still double/triple the cost of those bullet cameras. They will work either way, but you will have issues with sunlight, and other lighting conditions that cause glare, and the quality of the image on the outside of the home will not be that good.

Decent or high end 4channel DVRs with proper Motion Detection will cost more than that unfortunately. Otherwise you could look at a PC based using a DVR Card, most of them will have more features than the stand alones in that price range (DVR Card with PC price)
  8. Hi, and welcome. For indoors, you might want to look at a dome camera, though yes a box camera will be better image normally, but only if it is a decent brand. That bullet camera is BW just so you know, at least from what i found on google. It will see in low light, though ive found the lower end exview cameras to have pretty bad quality in the day time, but will see quite a bit more at night compared to regular BW. Rory

Its not really normal, just how it is with the cheaper units like that. When you buy a more expensive unit you would get individual motion settings.

    Avtech 780W DVR problem

Yeah sounds like could be something damaged inside, check John and see what he recommends. You probably just should get it replaced by the dealer and let them worry about it.

    camera focus

Bad cam or lens, lens is built on board so .. Check: The Dome cover has no scratches? The Dome cover is not dirty? The lens is not dirty? Whenever I have an Issue I cant straight off fix, I take the camera down and test it at my location for a couple days, or within time to make sure there is or is not any problem with it. But its alot harder just to replace a camera down here.

  13. I use Altronix Multi Power Supplies for them, you just need alot of amps. I dont use them that much either I prefer the EX14MX though as all in one design, and corosion resistant housing.

    Webview Audio

What kind of router or switch are you using, are there any bandwidth or MTU adjustments that may have been changed? Anything else running on the local network? What port are you using for the webcam? PM me the IP (and a demo user/pass) and Ill check it from my custom software if you like, as it uses an earlier version of activeX than what you have. Rory
  18. Yes but the Sony wont see in Pitch dark up to 100' guaranteed. The EX82 is a Day Night Infrared Camera, its designed for applications which require great color in the day time, and a view in pitch dark at night. For a Day Night Camera in the Extreme Range you would select the EX27MX or EX14MX. You can then add the UF500's to flood the area if you wish.
  19. I used a Sanyo day night with mech cut f ilter in the above images, though it broke off track the first week when the IR was driving it mad, i managed to fix it, been working 4 years now .. The GE Day Night Exview Box camera also has Spectral Resonse to 1100nm, have 1 of those and a Pano Day Night to try, just the client never got the money to finish the job yet and I cant get him to let me take them home, yet ;-( Now though I typically sell the EX14 or 27 MX from Extreme for Day Night, and also looking at the Acti MPEG4 Day Night IP camera which has some great specs, in the new EX20 Housing. And I also offer the Pano for a Day Night in Box and Dome, though Extreme Day Night domes arent much more, they dont have WD day nights.

    Camera Brands - Pelco, Panasonic

The GE Box cameras are really good, especially the Exview model, and the PTZ is fast and plug and play, all except for the Ultraview and their color/mono Dome, which I wasted a couple dollars on a couple times on both ..

    Dedicated Micros new DS2??????

why buy something that costs more than something thats better than it
  25. These are Infrared that flood the area. Installation has to be done right, cable and power supplies or they will fry. Also not cheap, but they work. Contact them for exact specs or let us know. With the UF500 you would change the bulb approx every 2 years. And like VST said, not all cameras are made the same, so you would need to look at what cameras you will be using. Extreme also has cameras that are enhanced for their Infrared. Basically when its Infrared, and you are talking flooding an area, its not going to be cheap, and cheap cameras generally wont work well. http://www.extremecctv.com/products/index.cfm?img=6 http://www.extremecctv.com/products/index.cfm?img=64 http://www.extremecctv.com/products/index.cfm?img=28 http://www.extremecctv.com/products/index.cfm?img=103 Here is an example of the UF500 Beam:
