  1. thats the same card i have, its the latest version on their site, 2.8e like you said. Rory
  2. I just downloaded and installed it today .. which card do you have? sorry it is version 2.8e .. When you goto playback, do a search but only 1 camera ... select all events. Then on the bottom right there is an icon that looks like it does nothing .. click on that. Ill switch over in a bit to check it out and see what it looks like .. get a snapshot for you. Rory
  3. Never dealt with them direct, nor their main distributor which is Ameba ... But the product itself is pretty good, I mean it has a couple features Id like toi see in it, such as auto load program in full screen, limited user mode cant switch from full screen, thumbnail search, 720x480 (max is 640x480), and Disk Map. But other than that, its simple to install, never had any issue installing the card on various PCs, just works. Now they got this Smart Search which is good, lets you select areas of a camera to search ... stop as it finds it or just find all and list all them, then you click on them and they play ... so nothing amazing but still a rock solid card as far as how stable it is and easy to install. Software does 32 cameras also ..

    GUEST VIEWING

im only jumping in on the spamming thing, I had my email shown for a while started getting tons of spam (email wasnt anywhere else on the web and never submitted to anything), spammers can browse the forum and grab email addresses then add them to their database. Simple remedy, I took off my email, people can PM me, then I can choose whether they get my email or not .. most if not all members will always be welcome to my email, just FYI.

Well actually only the main page is indexed, would need to redo the script so it has static pages also, and a link to those starting from the top static page, but right now only the main page is indexed in google. So as the forum code is right now, it wouldnt matter for google whether it is private or not. Also, we do have a dealer forum for most long term members, and lurkers cant get in there

    Is this possible

Basically if you use a DVR that doesnt use an ActiveX but instead uses image grab with javascript, it should work, like Sanyo, Video Insight, Axis, etc.

No thats just DM is all by the way if you can change between Mpeg4 and wavelet use wavelet for better quality. I do find the PC based much better recording quality for evidence though (over the GE stand alones I used for 4 years), the PC live view is not as good as analogue unless you use a DSP card, but evidence sharing is much better ... course then you have the PC issues ..

    Hard Drive failure

without a voltage regulator you may as well just jack hammer your hard drive one time . ... a UPS doesnt help.

best interior dome for retail situations

the GE Housings last forever. .. no metal .. all ABS plastic But they arent exactly fun to install ... their engineers need a lesson in real world installations (well goes back to the Kalatel days) I saw that too with those cheap housings ... dust gets inside etc ..

Really .. what DVR are you using, and what quality level are you recording it at? There is a huge difference once you set it up correctly.

    Is this possible

He he he .. yeah i wont guess what you're running off too. But what I basically mean is for most activeX controls to run, they require certain files which are only found on Winblows .. in other words when a developer is creating an ActiveX Control for a DVR they arent thinking of macs so they leave certain limitations in them such as certain file locations where they install their winblows DLL files, to the %Windows% directory. If Mac can emulate the winblows directory, and utilize DLLs and register OCX files, then it may work. This is just from what I have seen while utlizing ActiveX Controls and creating them myself ... Its just like I cant create ASP scripts to run on a Mac Server, Id have to use Lasso. Why I cant use Visual Basic to make programs to run on Pocket PC 2003 (i need Visual Basic Pocket PC Edition) ... etc ..Certain things are cross browser and cross OS, such as javascript, java, Shockwave, but as an activeX developer and user, I dont see how they will work cross platform.

actually Axis is Image Grab using javascript, totally different from an ActiveX Control. If in IE it does download a basic control just so you dont have to watch the javascript at the bottom of the page, but it uses image grab, pulling images from the server. Trust me, with experience with full featured ActiveX Controls, normal ActiveX Controls for DVRs do unfortunately rely on the OS as well. Basically, if you send me a Cab file from a DVR's ActiveX (they all use Cab Files), i can show you what the files are inside them, where they are installed when you click Ok to install, and what they are dependant on.

    WebGate Inc

These guys are overlooked alot of the time, but have some decent DVR and Web Servers, also a Linux Network DVR for Remote Video Recording, that supports 108 channels. http://www.webgateinc.com/wgi_htdocs/eng/product.html http://www.webgateinc.com/wgi_htdocs/eng/product/view.php?id=wgi_eng&no=7

    IR or Day/Night for nightclub

yes those are the Provideo CVC-325WPSW .. has 6 IRs but that part is useless on these cams. .. also, here is an example why NOT to use cheap color OEM IR bullet cameras in an application like this ... Client was testing some gifts .. Note they are only 1/4" to start with, which is why they are not wide angle ..no auto IR cut Filter in color mode picks up all kinds of IR and makes the color mode look like crapp .. (all the bar lights are on FULL in these images, which is not normal)

here some recorded shots i captured over the web from a last weekend .. sorry size small from the web ... PS. permission was given on any images from these 2 locations above and here .. and 1 location is my own place. The lighting does get more intense (like lightning etc) but its been some slow nights ... Remember these are cheap 420TVL Bullet cameras.

    IR or Day/Night for nightclub

for a BW dome ... Id recommend the WizKid WZ30 or the WZ46, BW versions High Res ... the 46 has a 360 degree gimble for apps like wall mount. The 46, 47 and 49 have all the same cameras, different housings. The 30 is a fixed micro lens, I prefer the 46 though for its easier to install slightly due to the gimble, and has a varifocal auto iris, but the 30 is much smaller. Buy an extra dome cover also, they come in useful if you scrape the cover .. it happens, normally on first installation of a brand of dome, if you arent careful or have little patience like me Im hooking up 2 Sanyo True Day Night Domes sometime this week, on the bar, will post some shots once its up. Think the Pano would be better but the Sanyo is slightly cheaper. Extreme has some Day Night Domes, costly though, dont think worth it in a night club .. due to vandals, etc. The 30 is inexpensive, though the 46 is not much more, for the auto iris.

They arnet just loading an AVI file, it is a program that reads video from the DVR in that DVRs format. You cant just grab video from a DVR without knowing the commands it is using, and they arent giving that code out. Its not a standard video format, it is dependent on that DVR. An ActiveX is a container (Cab) that contains DLL Files, and programming code specific to that program, in the case of DVRs it is specific to the DVR it is made for. Files are downloaded to areas on your PC and the ActiveX uses Windows built in objects and components, as well as added ones by the Cab File, to utilize the video, and perform the other features the activeX may have, eg. Save Video, SnapShot, Play Files from the DVR, as well as streaming live video from the DVR. I stopped making activeX controls due to the limitations with browsers and features, when I can have the client install full client software as quick as/faster than, downloading the activeX, and with much more features. Reason I made the Customized GUI for Geo is that is is limited being it is run within the browser, though the best thing is, im still using its browser ActiveX control .... PS. I created an activeX Control for browser based video for Kalatel DVRs (now GE) before Kalatel came out with theirs .. But I too would like to know if he can get it to work at least on windows emulation or whatever mac has like that.
