    IR or Day/Night for nightclub

Hi Day Night will work, as it will switch from Color to a lower lux BW in low light. Depends "how dark" it gets. Only use Infrared if it is really going to be dark, or pitch dark, otherwise get a BW or a True Day Night, and you can always add IR later. Night club app here we had best results with BW, color at the door and outside, but BW at the bars and inside the club and the dance floor. We recently had to add some IR in a new VIP bar which was very very dark.

have you tried them on Macs though? I work with these ActiveX Controls all the time, and I know how they work (rip them apart). The products you mentioned I havent worked with, but last time I checked the DM's IP machine, not the DVR, used Java which wil work on cross OS/Browser, but their standard DVRs still use a basic ActiveX Control. Axis is image grab (javascript). ActiveX will ONLY work on Internet Explorer. I think you are confusing an ActiveX with Image Grab and Javascript/java. If the mac you are using is simulating windows OS then it should work. But it will still need a browser OTHER than Netscape or Mozilla, and one that supports ActiveX. If the activeX will work then so will the Client Software. The majority of them install the same files to the same locations, just a more skinned down version of the client software is all it is. You're lucky to get them working on most Windows machines

Re: Send a Vandal to Jail

Sounds like you may wanta vandal dome, Day Night, or just BW, though you said Day time is also of interest and color in the day is nice. For Infrared you will need a BW or Day Night, which switches to BW. One with an auto/mech IR Cut Filter is better as far as color goes, it turns on the IR Filter in the day so you get vivid color without any IR from Sunlight, etc, and turns it off at night to pick up IR. These are called "true" day night cameras. As for infrared Illuinators you can add these on seperately, dont think you would need more than the ExtremeCCTV UF100, with a 30% beam, use 730nm and it will light it up even better. The higher the nanometers (more invisible) the less performance you get from the IR,so the lower you go, such as 730nm, you will get better performance (730nm is similar to the glow from a traffic light). Ofcourse with something like the UF500 it will just flood the whole area out for a couple hundred feet so using more invisible IR wont degrade the performace as much, but i think thats overkill for your distances, and maybe "too much" infrared. Also, having any reflective areas such as walls, bush, etc, will really make it alot better also. http://www.extremecctv.com/categories/ Fixed Lens: http://www.extremecctv.com/products/index.cfm?img=19 Varifocal Lens - auto Mech Filter http://www.extremecctv.com/products/index.cfm?img=20 UF100 http://www.extremecctv.com/products/index.cfm?img=7 UF500 http://www.extremecctv.com/products/index.cfm?img=6 Also, a Less expensive alternative of a "true" day night dome would be the Sanyo, which also has an auto IR Cut Filter and switchs to BW at night. If the ActiveX is written on a Windows Platform, how will it work on a Mac? Regardless of the browser, it is still a windows application that uses the Windows OS and Windows Objects, DLLs, etc. If %Windows% doesnt exist then not alot of browser based ActiveX controls are going to work. An ActiveX control is still a windows program, only difference is it is compiled into a cab file to run in a browser - in the majority of cases. Alot of the time it is much quicker to just install the Client Software which will allow for more powerful features. Only thing I know of that will work is Javascript Image Grab, such as used in the Video Insight, and Sanyo.

    Geovision quirks?

Also set up each camera on a CCTV monitor, or even a TV, first. Make sure you get perfect video on that before connecting to the DVR. Id check the lenses, post a link to cameras and lenses if you can.

nope. Its a car park, no cordless phones allowed in the car park or on the ramp.

no cordless phones 40' in the air where these are going to be mounted. 5.8Ghz is the less used of the frequencies, and totally free frequency at this location, which is an airport. The 2.4 im not 100% sure about yet.

Thanks, not quite what they need though. Basically its 2 16 channel DVRs at the main building, both rack mount RAID etc. 18 cameras are at remote buildings on the same site, while the remainder are in the main building all going to be on RG59 Siamese (drop ceiling throughout with flush mount vandal domes). All of the cameras are Extreme CCTV cameras ... EX27's and a couple EX14's outside, with domes inside and a couple outside. The DVRs are real time display and record, real time display using the DSP card (PC based), and 2x 32" LCDs wall mounted, with a keyboard controller to switch control between the 2 DVRs. I considered a single 32 channel DVR but require faster recording than they can "currently" offer. Besides 32 cameras on 1 display is too small. Anyway, going to do some more research tonight and probably end up calling Video comm tomorrow. They have 32 channel 5.8Ghz rx's, though there is some limitation to it, Ill probably end up doing 16 with 5.8 ghz and 4 with 2.4Ghz.

Hi Whats the distance from where you can mount the camera to the vehicle? Is there any light at all, or pitch dark? Rory

Yall think yah have it tough .. i got a client that has 18 cameras that need to be wireless .. but cant use wireless ethernet, has to be wireless video like video comm etc ... cant figure how to do it without using 18 seperate TX and RX though, only way Ive looked at is the mux at the TX end and then a demux at the RX end ... any ideas ..? 4 Seperate buildings, 9 cameras at one, 4 cameras at another, 2 at another, and 1 at the furthest which is 2000'. The rest are from 40' to 150'. Has to be 1 centralised area on each building for TX as where the cameras are all metal etc .. line of sight outside not an issue .. 3 locations to 1 centralised location on the roof of the main building, 1 location for the other one on the other side of the roof as its a different direction. Client didnt want to trench .. Been waiting for a second reply from Video Comm after I sent them more details ... nothing yet ..
  14. They are most likely RG56 or something of that grade, stick to at least RG59, which itself isnt exactly that thick, but works good.

    Output to Tv Channels?

If you're going to run all new cable, why not use the TVs AV input, then extend a remote to each room, or use something like the Pronto. Otherwise if you want their own channel with no cable signal, yeah supposed to work.

  19. Ofcourse. I myself have some cheaper bullet cameras at my appt, cause thats all I can afford, they work though and look okay. There is not enough money in it for me to sell them down here, but I would suggest them to friends if that is all they can afford, Eclipse CCTV ECl-596 Color Bullet, and the Provideo CVC-320WP. Both have lasted through lots of bad weather and give a decent image. B/W for low light, the color one for lots of light. They are inexpensive so if they do go bad you can just chuck them and buy another, or move up to a more expensive camera. Like Herm said, at least get a decent DVR to start, or prepare your PC for one even if you start with a cheap card. Main thing is get some good wiring to the camera locations, as you can change the cameras, but wire is not always as easy.

If only on motion detection shouldnt be an issue. Basically its an IP video system, or NVR. If its only DSL then upload will be slow, you will need ADSL at least. Wont be the same frame rate or quality as local recording though, depending on the cameras and DVR used.
  22. If you buy an exview camera that costs $80 then rest assured it is using the cheaper chip. The big brands typically will use the best chip for their cameras and why also their cameras cost well over $200. There is also alot more to a camera than just the chip, including power boards, and internal programming. There are so many variations of SONY exview and SuperHAD chips its really impossible to go by those specs any more. Best way is to ask around and test it yourself. Most big brands have only 1 version of an Exview camera. Simply, you get what you pay for when it comes to cameras.

    GUEST VIEWING

I dont mind guests browsing, i dont want my info public to all, but its not that big a deal. The main thing is that emails should never be shown. i dont mind members seeing my email but its when the spammers get a hold if it.
  24. you get very limited warranty and little to no support, in the way of manuals or detailed info, with the cheaper OEM products. Once a company brands something with their name, then the price goes up, also generally you will find a better warranty, some actual support, and detailed manuals or info. However some companies (too many of them) will just dump the product back out to the client with their name on the product but little to no support or warranty, and the price will stay very low. With more well known brands, you will find the majority of their equipment will be high grade quality with decent chips, lenses, and programming, more time an effort is put into the end product, more testing is involved to make the end product up to par with their companies name. You will get a longer warranty and much more detailed manuals & info. With cameras you get features like dual voltage, reverse polarity, higher quality chips (for example there are various versions of a Sony Exview chip and the budget cameras will use the cheaper one). There is definately a market for the cheaper products, DIY, Budget installs, etc, but if you want high quality you will need to spend some more dollars.
  25. Data maybe you can get him that DVR and some Provideo bullets the same time? Just pop over to amityville
