I used a couple models of their IR Bullets and they were rubbish, including one of their expensive models. The expensive model produced a faint IR Ring effect which i found out to be how they were supposed to be, and crappy daytime image - total waste of money. The cheaper TDN I used is now discontinued and although it had alot of somewhat decent IR (compared to the more expensive model) it was also a piece of garbage - never would stay focused between IR and non IR no matter what one did - had one of them here for a couple weeks testing until I gave up. The newer monalisas might be better but once bitten ... Id look at KT&C or Samsung now. But either way I would not order ANY until I test at least 1.

I have a wall, and the DVR is on the other side in a closet. The IR remote wont go through said wall. But if I can extend it, there is a small hole at the bottom of the wall and I can run a wire through that and put the extended IR on the next side in the bedroom. I took the front of mine apart and doesnt seem to have any seperate cable. The IR Eye is soldered to the front board, it has 3 pins. I guess I could solder 3 new wires to it and extend that to some IR eye I get from Radio Shack? Any ideas to make this easier? Ever tried any IR extenders like those from Radio shack, and if so how did they work out? THanks

Upgrading to a Dahua hybrid dvr - See video of thieves

I changed one Qsee camera as it was bad. Another camera was some other brand that was there from the initial install, it has more powerful IR. 1 other needs to be changed as with lights off it cant see much and after them seeing the picture from the new color IR camera they said they wanted that picture there as well. The last one is supposed to be ok according to them at least it was before the hurricane, but will see after I clean it and lower it on a pole. This system was there for a year but nothing ever worked. The daytime picture with the QSee cameras are actually okay for them, the picture just sucks at night! As for the DVR, they got the Dahua 8 channel VGA at a steal - $200! Local supplier has 10 of them he wants to get rid of cheap. Used the 250GB HDD from their Qsee. I'd love to see all TDN cameras but people just arent spending that these days (avg local cost $300+each). They got a new DVR, $70 APC voltage regulator, a new Camera, Existing cameras troubleshooted and terminated (as proper as could do with spliced camera cables), and the whole system connected properly and up and recording for just $550 (plus the electrician that replaced the bad wiring which was in conduit). Bottom line, initial goal was just to get a picture from all 4 cameras onto the TV in their bedroom for as little cost as possible - they only had 1 barely working camera. I had all 4 cameras working on the QSee from yesterday. But I suggested the DVR upgrade so they would at least have some decent recording, plus have 4 more inputs for additional cameras. Now they see a good night image from 2 cameras, they want that from the other 2 even if it means replacing them. They were initially quite adamant that the picture they had from the existing cameras were fine - but as we can see they changed their mind -
Never heard of them. But looks like a chinese company marketing various chinese brands. Dahua is distributed under brands such as: QVis, AData, XTS, EDGE, IC Realtime, MACE, GEN IV, Q-See

Thats mostly lag from the desktop capture at least in the case of the 2nd video its streaming the main stream encoding which is 7fps D1. But the video speed over the internet will depend on the bandwidth at the DVR and Remote sides, local live video is real time. On the standard DVR recording is 7fps D1 each channel or 30fps CIF each channel. They have a real time D1 record DVR also. No random reboots unless something goes bad like the hard drive, or you set it to reboot once a week. Here is the Android DMSS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQGzF67F1Us Search iTunes for iDMSS which is their latest for the iOS. Ive installed it on both for clients, though I use a netbook and desktop myself. Also a colleague uses a MAC to view his DVRs.

not entirely http://www.bahamassecurity.com/articles/browser-based-video-on-mac.asp http://www.bahamassecurity.com/software/geovision-software/simplevuegeo.asp But as for the card and linux, there are much cheaper cards, probably identical but without the Geo name on it. BTW the 1240 is a completely different card from the 800.

Dahua is half that price retail

Just run 18awg wire for power (or 14-16awg depending on distance). Its not expensive and you might wish you had.

Upgrading to a Dahua hybrid dvr - See video of thieves

There is ALWAYS going to be something better, and even when one gets what they think is the best, something new will come out that is even better Live for today, worry about 2 years from now, 2 years from now. I asked a client if we could run cat5 in addition to the RG59 siamese incase she wants to add IP Megapixel in a year or two .. she said she might be dead in a year or two so no tanks. -
LOL thanks guys .. had to remove the link though but I got it thanks. However decided late today that we are just going to extend the USB mouse for right now .. its really only for playback and when the power goes out and comes back on to switch it back from 9 way to 4 way. But for the future now I Know

Upgrading to a Dahua hybrid dvr - See video of thieves

Just upgraded a 4 Channel QSee (not sure of the model but it is tiny) to an 8 Channel VGA Dahua DVR (aka Qvis Zeus) and client is happy. Those QSee cameras are pretty lame though, I think they are getting like 10' of IR outside and its 1/4" BTW your images look okay, seen much much worse. Need to point them at the areas the people come into though, right now they are pointing at their backs with the garage and front door. If you want to leave the garage camera, just get an old or cheap IR camera and put that on the opposite side to give that side more light. -
Yeah I considered a mouse, but its for when they are in bed. Ok so next option is an IR Repeater. Found something local for $100 but too much Lots of them online, some for $40 or so. Anyway Radio Shack has the IR Extender that I "Think" might do it. Thats if it will go through the wall. So one of them at the DVR on one side of the wall, the other on the next side where the TV is. Its around $50 here. Might give that a try.

Looks like Vidcon sells CNB type cameras in the UK, might want to check with Tom on that.
-
8 lanes = 8 cameras for license plate capture. Plus overview cameras. Or overview of 4 lanes = 2 -3 cameras. So yeah looks like it does cost more.
-
check the distance from the building to the pumps, otherwise 10.5mm may not work for what you want. If you are just looking for general overview shots then it would be fine. Eg. at the gas station here I installed a VBM-24VF and at 10.5mm it captured 2 pumps (3 of the 4 lanes). To get in closer on just 1 pump and 2 lanes I figured I needed at least 16mm. (but it was just a quick replacement camera and client was still happy)

Forgot about CNB.. http://www.cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=1191

From buildings to pumps - if they are like the Gas Station I installed at 11mm wont cut it, so need something like this if wanting fixed domes: 3.69 ~ 44.3mm with Highlite Compensation http://www.samsungcctvusa.com/files/upload/SCV-2120_CAT.pdf 3.69 ~ 44.3mm with Wide Dynamic Range http://www.samsungcctvusa.com/files/upload/SCV-3120_CAT1004.pdf If cant afford these, cheapest way would be some box cameras with a lens in the range of 16-25mm in a housing mounted upside down. If they are within reach though they can get knocked. DVR http://www.qvissecurity.com/Catalogue/DVR/Apollo-HD/16-Channel/Apollo-HD-16-Channel-Sata-DVR-2-TERRA-HDD-APOLLOS-HD16-2TB-N

They dont say TDN or ICR though, so unsure if they are or not - though they say DC Motor?
-
As far as I can see they dont have any TDN Vandal domes except with built in IR. So nothing comparable to the CNB VBM24VF or VCM24VF just yet. FYI though if viewing CNB Monalisas in small video windows over the network, eg. 36 way, the pictures go out of whack - compared side by side with other sony and even sharp chips which do not do that. Im steering away from the monalisa for that same reason right now (though it wont matter for most 4-8 way applications) - this may differ from one DVR to the next, but fact is it does it with Dahua, and Sony does not. Also the 24VFs will stay in color until there is absolutely no light in the video - they dont use a photocell - so there can be extensive noise under low light, garden lighting, etc. Otherwise I have yet to find another camera that compares to them for that price. At least none that can be purchased through US distributors.

Only if you want to control it away from the camera. Otherwise you set it up using the control for the OSD on the camera itself. It would give options for the zoom/focus etc, such as to set it fixed or leave it auto. Auto will auto focus as you zoom, fixed for example will allow you to set it fixed and focus it there, just like using a regular non zoom lens. But it depends on the camera as to what it says or what it has. If you want it in a dome though they will typically come with a zoom lens for 5-50mm.

Thats fine, get the Zoom lens dome and just set it fixed to your FOV.
