    GE StoreSafe

Basically yeah .. these are the main differeces between the 2 regular units, note the PRO is 60pps total. Ive used plenty of ther normal 30pps ones with 4 cameras and its perfect .. I didnt include the PRO-2 here .. SDVR = 30pps, no Audio SDVR-PRO = 60pps, 1 channel Audio
  2. ive ran iview on a 1700Mhz P3 with 256MB ram .. sounds like this is what you have ... except you need a larger HDD for sure. also format it and load XP then you are good to go ... no high speed software compression cards though.

    Geovision GV-MP4

I though that Hybrid card was supposed to run on its own ... 4 channel real time record and display hardware compression, so you add up to 32 channels ..

I heard the Pro2 doesnt do multi site though ... might want to double check that as he is dealing with a multi brach application.
  5. do you need special tools for fiber? Like gloves, face gear etc..??

Ok just got the Digia software from GE, has its own software, so i take it doesnt work with WR. The Digia Software looks alright, lets you access all menus etc, but to be honest, i prefer wavereader, or if you are going for that price range, the Active-Tek (and you know i Like GE, but the software just doesnt impress me for the price), has better software, not sure on the warranty though for the active-tek, but depends who you buy it from. So for the extra couple hundred $$ the StoreSafe would be a better choice IMO.

Yeah being able to use wavereader makes a huge difference though, thats what im wondering, as last time i checked it had its own browser based software and nothing else .. which is why I left it alone ...

The RTOS they use is untilized in Cell Phones and Medical Equipment. The Processors are small and they take very little to run. The RTOS is embedded in the EPROM and only video is saved to the Hard Drive. Speed is not an issue. Check out this link. http://www.acceleratedtechnology.com/embedded/nucleus.html

Also if you are getting the StoreSafe, dont skimp on the cameras, high res will make a difference. Why BW cameras though, for indoors, is it low light? Another Method is to use color cameras, and install $30 motion sensor lights near the cameras ...

Levon, for the price they charge for hard drives sizes (GE), do you think they are using some kind of SCSI or RAID set up ... i just always wondered why they charged so much more per 160GB upgrade .. I mean as far as I know they are standard ATA drives ..

Hi, yes neat DVR, great remote admin feature. you can upgrade the HDD, just have to keep the original for warranty of the DVR as the serial numbers macth. Also HDDs need to be slowest available like 5400rpm and non partitioned and non formatted. Motion detection works good so that if not all cameras are getting motion, you get real time video record, it is smart motion so as 2 cameras get motion it halfs, 3 etc, then as they dont get motion it speeds back up automatically. I dont know if you can get it for under $2000 with 4 cameras, retail, depends what cameras you need. Rory

  17. I dont have any cheetas but i gots a couple resident potcakes, daddy long legs and the odd west indian roach ( nice meal ) ..
  18. i dont know, our gov here is getting real cosy with castro, dont know how long we will be able to be opiniated, without getting executed in the public square!
  19. Well its all based on personal opinion and we are all entitled to it. I merely stated my experiences with these little baluns based on 2 well known brands i have used, and that one of them look identical to the VU ones. . whatever the brand, they are not secure enough for any security installations I can think of. As for Sanyo, cameras are good but i wouldnt touch their DVRs until they come out with something decent looking. And NVT, well thats up to you ... im looking at the Nitek also, but only amplified. Gawd darnit inet was off all night again! da tird wurld ..

    NV211 is obsolete?

    Yes he is correct: http://www.nvt.com/products/NV_214AM.html
  21. It may help, its worth a try. The Existing Eprom may be slightly corrupt .. anyway, its up to you.
  22. yeah herm but that camera you used looked like crap anyway to start with ..
  23. Bad Design ... the VU baluns in the PDF are exaclty the same design!!!! Baluns are Baluns, they are all the same shape, some have tooless connections, some have screw ons. id bet they are the same thing since they look identical.. Actually I have used an NVT active hub and it is crystal clear high quality. Baluns ARE for DIYers and non professionals, just their design alone qualifies it as unprofessional. If it is only on the camera end, fine, but at the System end, its not a good idea. And to say those cheap little baluns are better than NVT ... gotta be kidding! But if yah want to send me a pair to test i will, just dont see how it can be any different from what I used as they look identical down to the T. .
  24. You will always get loss of video over 100' on any cable, especially cat5 .. without an amplifier. This is one i used and i used a couple others which were no better, ill never use passive again, especially baluns. Video Quality loss at 150' on 3 out of the 5 cameras. Also got alot of white in the image, (brightness), and interference even though all wire was run by me and kept 2 feet away from any electric. http://www.seco-larm.com/EVPPT11_C.htm Not to mention how easily the wire comes out of these things if you knock it .. very unprofessional gear .. but okay for DIYers.
  25. whoops .. so its basically the same as the sanyo one how it grabs the images, but it does it much smoother and in non stop fluid action
