i know a company over there, china or taiwan cant remember off hand, their cameras look just like the Dinions, but they've been around from the Phillips days ..

Yeah they've changed alot of those now, the newer versions, at least with the higher end units, can change the http port, just cant change the main TCP server port.

certainly an interesting thread, it appears some of us like automatic transmissions and some prefer the manual shifters ..

Thats why .. #1 - you strip the OS right down so they cant run anything besides basic stuff, and the DVR server software #2 - give the users limited access and only in full screen, only 1 admin will have full access, and even then you can block their admin from exiting the server software. Ofcourse these are things I do, and not many others probably do that .. And back to the thread, I believe I answered her initial questions in post 2 & 4.

When I say cheaper, we have been through this on other threads, I think this thread has gone way off course and should be continued in a new thread or in one of the other many many existing PC vs Standalone threads Now when you say Sanyo, how much cheaper is it? If its not that much cheaper, why would I switch from something that already works and has been doing it from day one (Kalatel - GE)? Except from the Budget DVRs from AvTech, PT, etc, I only sell a DVR that does multi view Multi site, and one I can customize the GUI. This is what I have noticed as the main differences, only goes for the "high end" systems, and not all DVRs are alike: PC OS PROS: 1-Faster Recording Speeds and Higher Quality Evidence Sharing 2-More Powerful application customizing by client RTOS PROS: 1-Simple and Quick to install and use 2-No Maintenance - Plug play and forget Both can come Full Featured, and also cost around the same price.

One thing also to note, not all Embedded, RTOS, systems are reliable as well. Alot of the cheaper ones can give plenty of problems .. the only RTOS i sell right now are the GE ... because I dont have to worry about sending them back to the manufacturer . But most cant afford them down here after Customs Duty. .. Also remember there are embedded Windows DVRs now as well, so not all embedded DVRs are RTOS, just like not all Linux DVRs are RTOS linux.

Recording Speeds are faster than RTOS Embedded Systems in Full 720x480 recording resolution, and Higher Quality Evidence Sharing. There are other benefits to a PC system such as the more advanced administration of users and passwords. Course PCs are duty free down here while video systems costs us big $$ to import. And if the user has a problem with the PC i can fix it without having to wait 1 month for a new one to come from the manufacturer. Now if they can bring out a Real Time RTOS embedded DVR, that would be nice, but right now you are stuck with at least Embedded XP for that, or Windows XP. When I say real time guys, I mean High Quality not VCR mode, nothing exists in RTOS yet. I dont know why, but they need to get a move on it already .. And no, not everyone needs real time ... but recently all my clients wanted it Personally If I had a store, id use a GE DVMEc-CT for security, and a PC based for Speed, loop them together.

    moving on to dvr

Levon, are there any 1/2" domes out there ..? thanks Rory
  12. trust me, we got worst power problems than anywhere in the US .. we got 2nd hand 1950 generators bought from south america, our power goes off at least twice a day all summer long .. and on and off the rest of the year .. we got daily brownouts and non stop spikes ... without a voltage regulator, nothing is safe here ..
  13. i use a Line Conditioner (Voltage Regulator) .. had mine now from 1996 still ticking and we get brownouts all day long, and ofcourse lightning storms and hurricanes ..

    Price of Gas

I know, yall got a better economy though, and lots of free things, higher salaries, etc .... we got no government assistance on anything, and with customs charges we pay more tax than you guys .. Lets see, we have no old age shelters, no homeless shelters, no nothing ... medical costs are outrages and then we get 3rd world care .. my bro is in manchester and said he pays 25 cents for something he pays $5.00 here for .. as far as food goes ..

it sounds good as far as the DVR goes, but their cameras are the same as the Eclipse OEM gear Basically there is no RTOS DVR that does full real time 720x480 recording like a PC does, which is what the PC is good for Otherwise I prefer the GE DVRs ya know that I looked at the mace specs but it isnt clear as to what sizes it records at in different resolutions. .? But according to what you posted, that means in real time it records in 352x288, which is low res. I prefer higher quality and motion detection, and lower speed if thats what I get .. course id prefer faster but yah know, them RTOS cant do it .. yet . The audio thing is nice, but thats typical with most Linux based DVRs. Id like to know what brand they are using (OEMing) though ... Lets not confuse casey though .... lets continue via email/pm ... casey, any luck yet with ideas posted here? Rory

    Bosch LTC 1462/21

Yeah but they had those Exview cameras from before bosch bought phillips (Kalatel days). I have a couple of the Kalatel Eviews in the field still, 5 years now. Bosch had to do something to compete with GE But its time GE updates its cameras, its been the same since Kalatel, except for the Ultraviews which are pretty much crap anyway. Anyway, extreme extreme extreme oh yeah and some ganx and pani ..

    Bosch LTC 1462/21

I liked their KTC-840CE as a color camera, have them installed in severa retail stores here, real crisp and look neat, but the mono mode is not that great and dont see any need for that mode .... I have a color exview bullet in one of the same stores near the GE and you can tell the diff. I dont sell them any more though, when you can get the Ganz Wide Dyamic for the same price from Levon

    Bosch LTC 1462/21

Night Sense, is that just a digital day night feature, or true day night with mechanical cut filter, or is it just low light color? Couldnt really figure it out from the specs.
