Levon, who makes 1" cameras these days? I looked around but even Inkegami only have 1/3 an 1/2" ... just curious ... do they still exist? tanks Rory

Yeah tought you were talking the windows ones .. AIM, MSNIM, and YIM ... all spyholes Every PC I clean up that has spyware, worms, etc, all have IM on them, windows that is. Ive never had any and I dont use any antivirus or anything ...
-
Only form of that I use is Skype - P2P. Instant Messenging Programs leave your computer open to worms, spyware etc. I delete MSN IM from the registry, services, and the hard drive ... totally
-
okay i get what you're saying levon, basically its better for low light apps. But when using infrared it makes no difference, except for the difference in image size related to lens focal length. Thats what I tested them in, and the 1/3 and 1/2" were the same in quality and picture with the IR. Someone needs to make a 1" PTZ camera now ..

I used it once, online for a while, and no issues. FredB on this forum sells it in cali though and never said he had any issues. Actually it was on of his locations I demoed remotely. Rory

who has the best in audio/video remote view dvrs?
rory replied to blowrabbit's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Only ones ive tested remotely with streaming audio so far is the PowerTellecomm R4000 4 channel Standalone, and just lately, GeoVision, as i was included that in the remote software i customised. Both worked well. GE is actually one of the few that doesnt stream audio, but I think the limitation is really with the most secure and stable RTOS they use, which others dont, thats the Nucleus RTOS. It just cant do what Linux can, just as Linux cant do what Windows can... For audio check out GeoVisions Combo cards. Iview also has real time cards with additional audio add ons. GeoVision may be being used by alot of peeps that dont have much clue about CCTV, but they really do have the accessories, or at least, they use decent hardware that has all the accessories. -
Problem is, even the SDK or Customized Software is based on the manufacturer's software, so it can still be as buggy even if you customized the SDK yourself.

1 - Some do, some have web servers installed in the EPROM or on the HDD. 2 - Generally they will be more reliable, its an RTOS embedded system on the EPROM, non windows so less prone to worms and attacks. Most RTOS DVRs use the Linux RTOS, while GE uses Nucleus RTOS on most of their DVRs. 3 -GE is expensive on the UK side, DM is over there, but still expensive, and not that good IMO. Okay for UK side this is what I would think you can get your hands on... Id look at AvTech for budget jobs that need browser based, and something like the PowerTellecom 4 channel R4000 (i have seen similar ones on that RF Concepts Web Site or do a search for it on ASMag) for regular budget client based, higher quality and more admin settings than the AvTech. Both have given me no issues. Check out the CPCam line from Avtech. For mid range, check out the Active-tek, for 4 channel DVRs, and WebGate Inc, for mId Range 8 and 16 channels, until Active-tek comes out with their 8 and 16 channel versions. For high end ... Bosch, Baxall, Dallmeier, Sanyo. IF you can get good pricing on GE check it out, but i think Vista has the distributorship for them over there and as far as I was told, they arent cheap? Just from what ive seen.

here is an example with a PC based DVR: Im using 720x480 on 2 cameras, and 320x240 on 2 others, 3 set to max, and 1 of the 320x240's to 8pps, .. card is a 120pps card, and im getting 10 days. 2 Of the cameras get constant motion mon-sat 24/7, the other 2 only during office hours ... 160GB HDD, includes 10GB for OS, rest for video ... -
Diginet Center viewing problem ???
rory replied to ikill4food2's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
is it XP, SP1 or SP2? Not sure if has anything to do with your card but have seen issues with media between older XP and updated ones with video files created on the newer one, not seeing this video on the older ones. -
Okay, but I used both and saw no major improvement and ended up using the 1/3" anywayz. Course that was a Color camera and Day Night, I think it matters mostly in BW cameras if any, especially with new technology. Either way i was using it for a dAy Night app with Infrared at night in pitch dark, and cant get any better picture than what I got .. I ended up throwing the 1/2" one out as it wasnt as good an image, that put me against the extra spending on a 1/2" .. I can see spending the extra $200 for 1/2" if Im getting a megapixel camera, other wise its the same pixels on the DVR.

1/2" , 1/3", not much difference these days. We use 1/3" Medium Resolution in Infrared Apps as the mid res has better resonse with IR than a high res camera. But i still prefer high res DVR will do the motion, or you can tie in alarm system motion or beam sensors also. The DVMRe-CT is 60pps, the DVMRe-PRO is 120 but it only does that if set in Turbo mode, and that has other limitations. The PRO has a built in DVD and cost about $1000+ more than the CT. The CT is a slimline DVR while the PRO is taller. The PRO comes with audio by default, the CT has to order with -A on the end for audio and that costs extra. Those are the only noticable differences. Price is the main factor and i chose not to sell the PRO and just sell the StoreSAfe Pro and the DVMRe-CT. Personally i prefer the slimline look of the CT also. Both use the same Network Software. You wont need Plenum for the home. Also, you can get the cable from the same place you buy the cameras and DVR. 500' of RG59 Siamese is normally around $75 and 1000' around $200.

hmmm, i know quite a few .. off topic

i was just watching playback of 1pps on a cash register and it was fine. You can set motion detection recording, and individually set either motion or continuous on any cameras, with individual speeds per camera, etc. So if you put 30 on the cash register for example, then that leaves 30 across the other cameras but on motion detection, if only 1 camera is picking up motion, it will be 30pps on that camera, then if 2 pick up motion, drops down to 15, etc, it auto adjusts the speeds. All the motion parameters and settings, including the motion grid, is all customizable through the remote viewer also, full administration of the DVR. Personally I wouldnt waste 30pps on a cash register though unless you have it to spare, and alot of HDD space. 15pps is more than fast enough, and 5pps is more normal. Rory

Can anyone identify this DVR software?
rory replied to AMI's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
One thing i do with PC DVRs ... is turn off Remote Desktop totally, as well as a bunch of other stuff .. I use VNC ... basically I turn off almost all the services, basically any XP services the DVR doesnt ever use. It makes things run much smoother. I think i could post a list at some point .. -
If you are unsure how many cameras you will add at the other building, look at using Twisted pair, multi pair like 15 pairs for example, cat3, etc. Direct Bury is best but costly. Also, can always get a punch block for that building and add more cameras later with cat5 type wire. There is one guy in CA that is helping me regarding cable for this same type of app, C7 in CA. Punch blocks etc are cheap, the Multicamera Hubs are not, but to start with, you only need something big enough for what you initially want to add. You can always add a full blown amplified hub later, or a passive hub even. Once that twisted pair is there you can always do whatever is needed, Problem with RG59 / Coax is once its run thats it, you need to run more cable if you want more. For external buildings, thats where Twisted Pair comes in handy. Even if you only use a cheap $20 balun to start with (1 for the DVR 1 for the camera) you can alawys upgrade as the cable is already there. Rory

Can anyone identify this DVR software?
rory replied to AMI's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
just so you know this is the same thing, this is a screenshot of the browser based for the one i am talking about .. which for the price, are really good by the way, but are not comparibale to Iview or Geo: Anyway, so it is Digiflower .. http://www.digi-flower.com/skip.html Probably the SDK uncustomized version. -

rory replied to AMI's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Well Digiflower, well most PC systems record ONLY motion, you can do that with Iview also. It looks like Digigflower, reason I say this is Eclipse CCTV uses it, and it looks identical to a couple versions we got from them that were not customized, they were the original versions and they look identical to what you posted. And they use DigiFlower. It does have alot of features, but has issues Im still dealing with, and did today. You have to add a seperate remote user username and password, otherwise you cant connect to it remotely, it has issues adding managers and what not, a pain actually. Drove down to a location today and forgot to add a seperate user for remote access, and that sucked, cant connect right now I have had issues where it forgot the remote user, somehow, wont go there, cause i dont sell them, just set them up for some clients, colleagues. Otherwise its got the features, disk map, etc, simple to use, etc. but how stable is the software, is another issue. Its definately alot cheaper than the others. But Ive never had 1 issue with Iview or GeoVision. It does have a powerful browser based software, though crashes windows alot. Rory -
Yes you could use a KVM switch. I have 2 monitors, but use the same keyboard and mouse for my set up here. if you use something like the Linksys KVM switch it lets you Double Click the scroll lock to switch over, the one i have here is a little cheaper that I have to push a button, for what you said, you may want something like the Linksys which switches with the keyboard. Plug and play cable is not going to be as high grade as RG59 Siamese. if you have a professional to install it, best buy the siamese one time, and 70' fine as far as distance goes. Price is not much different, around $70 for a 500' roll, approx. Still have the issue of the other building though. Rory
