    Everfocus remote client

Yeah thats one DVR i dropped straight away, not too mentioned it is on the high crash list for remote playback, along with HiSharp. The DVRS i used were the EDSR1600's. And if you want to see a serious security risk: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=EverFocus+EDSR+Applet&btnG=Search Most are using the default user and password!!!

    DSR-2000e Hard drive change

Depends on the version number. You will find this when you boot it up, or once it is powered up you can go into the menu section and check the version number there. Also, you can check the version number remotely over the LAN or WAN. 30GB sounds like an old one maybe version 1.2 or 1.3. There are upgrade BIN files for both of these versions, PM me if you need them, but you MUST know the exact version number. DSR2000 1.1X or 1.2X - maximum HDD size of 120GB and can have two installed to maximum 240GB of storage DSR2000 1.3X - maximum HDD size of 160GB and can have one, two or four installed to a maximum of 640GB of storage. DSR2000/1000 2.XX - maximum HDD size of 250GB and can have one, two or four installed to a maximum of 1TB of storage. Hard Drives typically are 5400rpm. Best bet is to use the same brand and speed that are in the DVR. Cant remember the typical brand off hand though, but its not a GE HDD. Also they are to be unpartitioned and unformated. Now, this is what I have been told, ive never done it myself.

Bosch Divar or GE DMRe 16CT

Like i said, its windows. It is definatelty a good DVR with a ton of features, lacks on the remote Video side though, right now, but you can view cameras remotely. They claim an upgrade of software in Q4 of this year. Pros and Cons of a PC based and an embedded NON PC based i listed above, but to be clearer, theirs is embedded XP, which is PC based or more precisely windows based, where as the GE is Nucleus which is an embedded OS that is used in Cell phones and medical equipment. 2 totally different monsters. They do include all the bells and whistles in this unit, didnt even know they had that. But yes Dailmeir is a very good DVR, probably alot better than a Geo DVR as made in Europe so more geared towards Europe. I cant say for sure though as never used it, just heard it is very good. Remember Geo is the software developer, not the manufacturer of the card. Same can be said for many of the PC DVRs on the market. It is a very stable card when set up properly, and all the additional features they are throwing in, do work. Getting all those parts included are normally alot of extra $$ so it is a good price for a Geo loaded up like that. Basically that is a very good price, imagine it is only as you are getting it direct from them. Worth it if you dont want to spend on the GE etc, and if you need faster recording speeds. Rory

Bosch Divar or GE DMRe 16CT

As for Geo, being PC based, you will need to have some minor PC knowledge for maintenance, for any PC DVR, though I imagine at the price you mentiioned it is probably included. It is a great local system, and has some good remote video options, and their next software version is supposed to be even better. I wrote, and am in the middle of, a "better" remote video software version that what actually comes with it Geo has some great local video features, and due to the cards they use (they are software developers), they have great PC DVR accessories. Gonna be harsh but they totally suck at remote video in the current versions, but local is more important and outweighs the rest. Basically if you build a decent PC then the system should be stable enough. The PC systems I have sold, I have tweaked windows XP and it runs smooth, fast and hasnt yet had any issues, same settings used from initial PC DVR i set up from February of this year. $3000? Is this the whole thing, can you buy the card by itself and build the PC and put the card in yourself? If you are more than happy to buy the system built, that is fine too, just make sure who you are buying it from knows what they are doing. There are alot of guys on this forum, that sell the cards alone as well and we can assist you in alot. I do prefer a user buys local though, supporting local is always better for their economy. dallmeier is = http://www.dallmeier-electronic.com/ right in your area, kind of ... If you are interested in cards, there are many dealers on here that sell Geo on the Uk and Europe side, post a request for a supplier in the General Digital Discussion forum, or ask the person you go the quote from if you can just buy the card. $3000 is not a bad price for a whole system though, actually it is very good for using the real time card you listed. That card is real time record and display up to 16 channels, and also has an RCA Real Time Analogue Display Output for CCTV Monitors or TVs. But make sure they know what they are doing as there is alot more than just buying a DELL, putting the card in, and loading the software for the card. Windows needs to be set up properly as by default it can cause alot of issues, unless it is tweaked properly for a DVR. Rory

Bosch Divar or GE DMRe 16CT

the GE DVR by far, it is the Old Kalatel DVRs which has been around from way before the Divars came on the scene. GE has much more powerful remote software also. BUT, if your warranty is only 1 year on the GE and 3 on the Bosch, it is up to you to decide. Ive never had a Kalatel or GE DVR fail on me yet, one came damaged from shipping and was replaced straight away, otherwise they simply work. GE (kalatel) DVR = Plug, Play, Forget AND Connect .. for Years to come. Being on the Europe side, also check out Baxall and Dailmeir. Rory

    Anyone use this before?

ive got all the specs and was going to buy just couldnt afford it yet .. yes it is supposed to be very good, id like to hear if someone else has used it also. i may buy it for these 2x 32 channel jobs coming up anyway.
  13. You can still do Solar But depending where you are located will detertmine how many solar panels you will need. Also, with IR you can use a day night camera, while with Thermal it stays the same day and night, just body heat. Thermal is useful for long range like miles for example. also check this out .. http://www.extremecctv.com/documents/docGet.cfm?docID=25 also yeah, just check a different wireless range??

yeah had the same issue with a GE ultraview, and also other issues with them actually which is why i dont sell them no more ... for the switching light levels I changed some settings and it went away, cant remember though what it was.. i still have one at a location that I never got to work properly. After 2 weeks of every day readjusting, night and day, i gave up and never used since.
  17. yeah no prob, first double check it on boot up .. I think thats the same versions I upgraded ... as the 1.3 bin file is unzipped, and thats around the same time frame. Actually i bought a SVM8 at one point for streaming audio etc, never worked properly, was a waste of money, in fact, it is still sitting here on top of my TV as an ornament ... BTW my correspondance was mostly back when it was Kalatel, they really had exceptional support then, now ... well its GE ..yah know the big companies .. Rory
  18. See if this info helps, I have the Bin files required, PM me for them, or email. Flashing the unit is very simple and may make a difference. Also make sure the HDD is good, otherwise replace it with another 5400rpm HDD same size same speed. Perform HDD maintenance on it before you give up on it. I havent had one go bad yet but ofcourse they can. DSR2000e/1000e Flash Upgrades Kalatel/GE Tech (Name Removed) - 09/18/2003 "These are the latest flash upgrades for the DSR2000e and DSR1000e. There are three different board revisions of the DSR2000e which have major hardware differences. Two of the earlier board revisions are concidered Generation 1 and the latest board revision is Generation 2. Please be carefull in selecting you upgrade file as there are major hardware differences in these board revisions and flash upgrading with the incorrect file may cause your unit to become inoperable." "Original boards. For DSR2000 units with existing software version 1.1X or 1.2X installed, you may upgrade with the latest software version 1.2X only. Any higher version will damage the unit. This software can support a maximum HDD size of 120GB and can have two installed to maximum 240GB of storage. " "Extra Memory boards. For DSR2000 units with existing software version 1.3X installed, you may upgrade with the latest software version 1.3X only. Any higher or lower version will damage the unit. This software can support a maximum HDD size of 160GB and can have one, two or four installed to a maximum of 640GB of storage. " "Generation 2. For DSR2000/1000 with existing software version 2.XX installed, you may upgrade with the latest software version 2.XX only. This software can support a maximum HDD size of 250GB and can have one, two or four installed to a maximum of 1TB of storage."
  19. For remote Audio, you need a PC DVR.. Your DSR2000 supports Streaming live audio? As for stability, i have several in the field that have been running non stop which I havent had to go back to once, and they are still online, In fact i just downloaded a 200MB file for some video the other day from my home. There are EPROM upgrades available for some of the DSR 2000s, i can check if you want, the upgrades i installed on 1 made a huge difference. I actually have them upgrade Bin files here, but have to know the exact version you have to be able to tell you if it supports it, some of the "older" ones dont support upgrading without sending it to GE for manufacturer upgrade, I think a cost of $400 or so. Most of the ones i have in the field are around 4 and 5 years old, and all are attached to kalatel muxes. By the way, StoreSafe Pro 2 still has some limitations compared to the other DVRs, or did from recent specs, may have changed Levon can assist in that, maybe best to stick with the DVMreCT or even the SToreSafe Pro, for now, those are what I use. I dont know of any of the GE and older Kalatels that do streaming audio though, or do you mean playback of audio remotely? as for speed, also check your MTU speed, depends on the ISP and also are you using a router? Definately needs broadband at least 256 upload. All the ones i have online are Cable with at least 256 mininum. DSL down here is generally too slow for remote video, as we dont have ADSL, or we do but it costs $490 a month for a basic package. Rory

so now its a $150 camera that cost yah $400 without SD3 isnt it just a regular camera?
  21. you can buy solar for power, extreme sells it if you use their gear. and get some of these .. http://www.extremecctv.com/products/index.cfm?img=103 http://www.extremecctv.com/products/index.cfm?img=64 http://www.extremecctv.com/products/index.cfm?img=57 Rory

  23. me neither, dont know, but Cable TV has no issues down here .. except during hurricanes Course we have no bears etc ... just a bunch of wild parrots and then the local widelife
  24. Hmmm, what about Fiber Cable TV here runs most of their fiber above ground from pole to pole ..
  25. homie you running conduit too ? i tell the electrician i want a cable here, here, and here, etc, he pulls, runs conduit, etc. if i need gang boxes they mount those too, all to exact specs from myself.. mussee nice to have an electrician on staff though .. Seriously though, anyone can run wire in most apps, then you need someone with proper tools and experience to run conduit, etc, and ofcourse a licenses electrician to install the electrical outlets etc, but being the trained professional CCTV technicians we/you guys are, you should be sticking to the technial side, it makes life easier Unless you "like" running wire?? I know I ran telco wire for 6 years in 100 degree heat year round, attic after attic, nail in the head after nail in the head, im done with that ... leave that to the young guys
