4 Channel DVR too loud and need remote access to another tv
rory replied to LSA's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Never had any problems with noise in residences myself, but could just be a noisy fan. As for controlling it ... not sure the DVR, but if it is embedded stand alone (non PC), then it would either have to come with an IR Remote or Keypad, which can be extended, and if not, next best thing would be a channel vision 4 input Modulator that means they can watch each camera on their TVs anywhere in the home. You would just say program channels 71, 72, 73, 74 and the client can just use their remote to view each cam individually, if you add a second single input Modulator and then put the quad view into that and say set it on channel 70. Channel numbers here are just an example. Note the quality of the video is not that great on Plasmas or LCDs even the HDTV versions, but it works and you can see it on any TV once you tag the COAX where cable TV comes in before it splits out to the other TVs. Just dont let them expect CCTV quality on the TV, cause it will never happen, not yet at least. If they use something like a pronto you can set up a custom CCTV macro which makes it easier for them, or any other programmable remote control. Rory -

what DVR is it? Control will depend on what DVR it is, i take it is a stand alone embedded DVR as its in this section ..? As for noise, fans will do that, shouldnt be too loud though, no more than a PC fan at least. Everyone down here runs AC or Fans anyway so we are used to that. Make sure the fan is not dusty or hitting something. If it crops out you could loose the DVR. -
What's your ideal 16ch MPEG-4 DVR looks like?
rory replied to John_lin78's topic in Digital Video Recorders
yeah the GE DVRs do that well ... the camera to camera feature ... also GEO seems to do it pretty well. Iview, havent had the chance to really test that feature, but i love Iviews Remote Video, da bestest, especially for multiple DVRs and 30 cameras. -
nah, cant say anymore on this subject guys, us dealers have to stay out of this now ..

Yes, you mean Java Web Servers (?), and they are horrible. Quality doesnt match close to the activeX, and they are featureless. Really, about the GE DVRs, never heard that one They have to be some of the most reliable and stable DVRs, dont know where you got those figures. As for sales, well there are many distributors in the US that are pushing DMs but dont have a clue about CCTV or DVRs, they are just pushed on them by DM sales agents. Sales doesnt make a product good. Every GE DVR (Kalatel) ive had has been running years without any intervention or manintenance, they just work. DM is not worth the money they sell it for, and does not come close to the GE DVRs. Ive used both.

if its PC based you can, just copy the software to the server's HTTP directory maybe that can be something .... setting up a web site that uses DDNS servernames to direct to the web site with a string for each persons ID, then it auto downloads that users remote software, or simply displays a web page that has links for their software ..?? Basically mini versions of the software that can be used for many different DVRs, simple quick installs, no browser issues, just works.

well here you have it. http://www.resellerratings.com/seller8941.html And if you do a search for the registrant, seems the sites come and go. As someone else said, CD manufacturing is not that expensive, not to warrant the cost they are selling it at, and the retailer does not make the CDs!!
-
well here is the registrant, the domain name Domain Name: BANKSOFTUSA.NET Registrant: Neo net ltd John Hopking (soft@lastsoft.biz) PO box 675 , denver .co Denver CO,188101 US Tel. +1.2372732 Same web site registrant: http://www.getinstantly.com/ "Frequently asked questions: Why so cheap!? Unlike retailers, we do not sell software in a fancy box, with printed documentation, etc., meaning we do not shell out on CD manufacturing. The software itself is only what you get - available for download right after purchase!" Sounds fishy, probably a fake address, etc. If they are selling unupdateable software below manufacturer prices. Sounds like they came from Kazza ..! No address or contact info anywhere also.

You say you've tried 24VAC? What lens are you using/used?

So yall know, with browser based server, you always have to install something anyway, in fact, some windows software is much quicker and easier to install, plus it is going to be much more powerful and stable than the browser based, and then there are no browser security issues (eg. SP2). I stopped work on my activeX's, since you can just download the 2mb quick install proggy from my web site

to be honest, the only features I use it for, or any PC system for that, is the recording speed. Pricewise they are also much cheaper, than the full featured GE stand alone, especially for me since i pay major duty on video devices, but PCs are duty free. Otherwise there are no other features worth speaking about that the GE doesnt have, and in fact, the GEs have superior remote software, at least until i get my hands on the SDK

Not much In the menu programming section, communications, and ethernet, enter all the IP information. Eg. IP address, Subnet mask, and Gateway. Then you can use either Static IP direct to say a Cable modem, and the ISP info will be added in the DVMRe Ethernet section as listed above, or you can use a router if you have multiple online devices/PCs. In the router you would enter the ISP static IP information, and DNS. Then in port forwarding or servers, in the router, you would forward the port 80 and 1024 to the Internal IP you would enter in the DVMRe, say 192.168.1.200 if the router is in the 192.168.1 range. Port forarding is actually only used so you can connect to it from outside your LAN, the internet. Locally once you enter IP information into the DVMRe you can connect without any port forwarding set up in the router. Anyway, it takes just a couple minutes and you are good to go, in fact installing a DVMRe can take only 5-10 minutes and work like a hog for years without any intervention, a reliable plug and play device. You can also remotely program the menu options over the internet using the included software. Most times I would just set up the general information, like the network, passwords, etc, at the site, then do the rest from home. You can even set up the motion areas and active zones remotely, and much more. Rory

using a linksys router at a client with no issues.

What you probably saw were Baluns, they are simply adaptors for BNC to UTP. Some can work okay, while many are simply garbage and give barely a near decent image. Always use RG59 where you can, best video picture, less issues, and cost is just as effective. But even RG59 is restricted in some applications. The best benefit of using professional grade UTP/Cat5 Devices is when you have multiple buildings, and want to possibly upgrade them in the future with more cameras. You can run Multi pair UTP and connect them to blocks. Using Active UTP/Cat5 Hubs you can get amplified and equalized video signals at distances up to 1.5 miles, more if repeated. These types of devices cost alot and are not normally cost beneficial to the average user, but for larger jobs with long distances, it is worth it sometimes. Another benefit is using existing networking cable where you cannot run RG59. As for price, with decent baluns running around $20 a piece, thats $40 for 1 camera, times that by 16 cameras, $640, plus the cat5 1000+ feet. If you price that against a roll of RG59 Siamese cable at say $250, $20 for BNC connectors for 16 cameras, then the balun way is far too expensive for the average client. I agree it is alot easier to run Cat5 than a roll of Siamese cable, but so is just running the cable across the floor from room to room, and wait, why bother with cat5, telco wire is even easier, and just have to splice the ends with some tape Rory
