Only problem I had why it wasnt recording some cameras, when i first used it, was because i was use to manually selecting the motion detection area, from using other DVRs, but with Geo that mask disables recording in the area you select! :-0 Anyway, the new cards I have been buying, dont use dongles, and I have not had any problems up to now. Honestly, if I had to travel 100 miles to maintain a system, i would use a stand alone like the GE DVR. Rory

one user hasnt checked in yet, from London, "paranoid" ... anyone know his company .. cooper? -
yeah im logging off now, but the local switching sounds easy enough, the remote switching is a totally different thing though, lets talk tomorrow .. Rory

depends on what input the projector has ... im sure one of them will match, at least the Svideo. It gets a little more complicated with the rest of your needs, as for switching between the signals, for local and remote. For a PC monitor would just use a KVM switch, not sure what can be done for the projector, but im sure it is something easy I just cant think of right now this time of night ... Ill wait and see what Thomas comes back with, or the others, and either way think about it tomorrow and come back with some ideas ... its 2.15 am here .. Rory

Im sure you could always use a relay to do this, if they only support 1 DVR shutdown...?? Maybe wait until Data or Dusan replies ...

prady, busy right now ... but i can help with some info DVR with a DSP RCA output. This lets you run an RCA cable from the DVR to the Projector to give you high quality real time video. Thing is ... 2 cameras only ..? How many videos do you want on the 1 projector? There is a Pelco device that splits the video into 2, but its not great. Depends what you want to do, or see. The DVR will allow streaming over the internet. Best streaming though would be from using an IP or Hybrid System, like Axis, or Video Insight. Especially if your main concern is streaming video, which in your case looks like you want to broadcast the video? though you probably will have issues with the local video to the projector, quality, if using Axis. Video Insight may help in this case, which is Thomas by the way, see if they offer a DSP card. Covi camera is another thing to look at, though you may not be able to get it on that side of the globe yet, its still fairly new over here. It has coax as well as Ip outputs. http://www.covitechnologies.com/ http://www.covitechnologies.com/products/analog/evq-1000 http://www.covitechnologies.com/products/ip/crystalhd Ive never used a projector for CCTV video so cant comment on quality. Ive used Plasmas and LCDs though and normally they are great, but they are different from a projector. Lastly, you could use existing camcorders (handy cams), and just plug them into either a DVR or a Video Server ... Rory

Tool, Software or scripts to auto backup daily video file
rory replied to simyf's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
do they have other folders under it, like camera numbers, such as cam01, cam02, or 01, 02, etc, or just the .vgz files? anyway, the following will copy all .vgz files under the main folder of the day, not sub folders (that can be done also just let me know). Copy and paste this into a text file, then raname it archive.vbs (or whatever you want to name it, once it is a .vbs extension). The firtst line, change "f" for the drive you want to back up to. Run it to test it first. Once it works and copies all the files, then use windows scheduling to run the file once every day. Also, for this to work if you run Nortons, you will need to disable Script blocking. If you dont want to do that, I can throw it in an exe and have that run in the back ground. If the drive does not exist it will just do nothing. '----------------------------------------------------------------- CONST bDrive = "f" DIM bMonth DIM bFile DIM fpath On Error Resume Next bMonth = Month(Date) IF Instr(1,bMonth,"0")=0 And Len(bMonth) = 1 THEN bMonth = "0" & bMonth END IF bFile = "d" & Year(Date) & bMonth & Day(Date) fpath = bDrive & ":\Video\" & bFile & "\" Call CreatePath(fpath) Const OverwriteExisting = True Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") objFSO.CopyFile "d:\" & bFile & "\*.vgz" , fpath, OverwriteExisting Sub CreatePath(sPath) Dim lCt, sFound, l Dim sTmpPath, lPos, fs, sTmp Set fs = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") For lCt = 1 To Len(sPath) If Mid(sPath, lCt, 1) = "\" Then sFound = sFound & lCt & ";" End If Next For l = 1 To Len(sFound) If Mid(sFound, l, 1) <> ";" Then sTmp = sTmp & Mid(sFound, l, 1) Else sTmpPath = Left(sPath, CLng(sTmp)) If Not fs.FolderExists(sTmpPath) Then fs.CreateFolder (sTmpPath) End If sTmp = Empty End If Next If Not fs.FolderExists(sPath) Then fs.CreateFolder (sPath) End If Set fs = Nothing Exit Sub End Sub '----------------------------------------------------------------- -

What type of external storage though .. and what DVR is it again ..? I can write a simple vbscript for you and then you have windows scheduling run it whenever you want it to. Just need to know what DVR, and what storage device. Rory -
Well if yah get a chance to take a cruise or trip over here let me know Have fun wish i was there! Im thinking of a trip after these couple big jobs are completed, to LA, Canada (where ever extreme is), St Louis, and then NY city ... that will be my vacation Ive had 1 vacation since 1996 .. and it lasted all of 3 days, in boca raton last year. I think we need a forum meet at Atlantis Resort down here later on this year .. Or we can even meet up in Long Island bahamas, where its real paradise, peace, quite, swimming with sharks, fishing, swimming in da blue hole (world known blue hole), they only got like 1 cop for the whole island, there is no crime ...! Its so slow down the kids play dominos in the middle of the one long road Rory

ofcourse those are the people im targeting now though ...

Yeah, like i said, it depends on the application. Installing something like this makes life so much easier though .. http://www.extremecctv.com/products/index.cfm?img=66 Basically their 2 main new cameras are: CX - Low Light Color with Wide Dynmaic Range - available in most of their domes and all-environment cameras. They have over 2000 of the EX46CX Domes installed in NY for the Triborough Bridge and Tunnels MX - Day Night with Mechanical IR Cut Filter and Enhanced Infrared Pickup - available in most of their domes and all-environment cameras Rory

Pano still is a great camera line, a leader in the industry, just the applications im targetting are more fitted for Extreme's cameras. The stuff that looks like it could be noise, is actually bugs, i guess mosquitos or something, its crazy, they love the pool area .. On the picture thing, I have tons of these, Ive posted them over the past couple years but took most of them off over time as the posts got old. I will see what I can do to organise all my pictures, it will take a couple weeks though, and ill be having some new ones coming up this or next week from a few new jobs

Hmmm, the dongle thing? they dont use them anymore. After using GE Dvrs, a bunch of lower end stand alones, Eclipse (Digiflower), Iview, and now Geo, i can probably answer your questions, but first, why does it suck to you ...

Ameba
-
its sold by ameba, so any distributor that sells Ameba. Basically, if you want the features, and actually the higher res, its Geo, i mean there are others Im just going by what I have used - Geo is loaded with features, and accessories that no other PC Card DVR manufacturer has. Eclipse which uses the Digiflower card, also has 720x480, but it has other issues. Currently, this may change, if you want simple simple multi site multiview remote software, not too concerned about playback or other local features, just basic playback/search modes, then the Iview is a decent card, and can save some money. It is much larger than the Geo card though, but they do also have the DSP card, as most other DVR cards do now. Not sure how it works on the Iview though. Rory

For security purposes, picture quality is number 1. Its useless having super fast recorded video, but the persons face is just a blob Remote video can be totally different, as lower the quality the faster the live stream is. For remote video the most important is going to be speed. But there has to be an option to turn up the quality so one can obtain different levels of quality until it is the best the compression will give, or choose a compression connection type on logon. Check out the Iview PC dvr for an example of the best remote video software I have used to date. They lack in other areas but just cant beat the remote video feature. Put that in a stand alone and its good to go .. Rory
