Was it at least a SATA Drive? Did you have your PC on a Voltage Regulator or Line Conditioner? Use those 2 things and you should never have a problem. Ive had the same Voltage Regulator since 1996, never lost a hard drive, and im talking IDE drives, and we have 100% worst power than the USA., with brownouts every day on and off, power outages every day during the summer months .. surges every couple minutes, you name it, the ancient second hand main and only generator our electric company has is crap .. i would never plug anything i want to keep, directly into a socket unless it has a voltage regulator .. but thats just me

Try them, they will beat any bullet and any box camera any day of the week (whoops night) for pitch dark and low light. If you read the specs you will see the differences and why they are so good. If you dont read, then dont bother posting. $500?? Sorry i cant help you there, check spytown.

Well personally use the WizKid Cameras primarily now, they are simple to install, vandal resistant, and not that expensive. Need to work out whether you need Color, BW, or Day Night. The later is more expensive though, so id suggest BW to save on cost if the area is low light. I also use the Extreme cameras (same company) but they are very expensive for most jobs. There are other brands like Provideo, Hunt, etc, that are mid range, and pretty decent cameras. I just found the WizKids to have the easiest to install Domes Ive ever used, and a decent picture to go with it. Provideo has a huge line of Bullet cameras also. GE Security has the best line of hidden cameras, their value line of discreet cameras being the least expensive, only for indoors though. Rory -

You could get a 4 channel 120/120 card, thats real time record and display, set it to 720x480. Add a DSP card which gives you higher quality (like an analogue output) to a TV or CCTV Monitor. You would just use the CCTV Monitor (or TV but higher res on a CCTV monitor) for live display - you cant control these displays though but just set it to a quad mode and you are good to go. They are configurable in the DVR software and you put it on windows start up so the DSP output always loads the set view. The software has multiple view settings. Then you can get a KVM Monitor switcher for an existing PC Monitor (like your other computer) and only swicth that when you need to playback or change settings. Or you can playback over the network or internet, and even load something like VNC on the DVR PC so you can also change settings over the network, or internet. The higher quality of 720x480, only is really noticeable when using high resolution cameras. Also, it eats up more hard disk space as the file sizes are much larger, so you would need to use larger Hard disk drives, then if setting it in 640x480 mode. So basically your highest quality will be using a DSP card output, and it will display real time video and a multi view, which is initially set up in the DVR software from installation. Rory -

may as get an 8 channel 120/120 one time, in case you want to add 1 or 2 more cameras .. meanwhile with 4 cameras it would be real time. GEO has 720x480 ... get the DSP card as well though if you really want great live video, or maybe just the 4ch Hybrid card (scott?) .. as for the last part, check this thread .. http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=2069 -
well it is their eco version, is there nowhere to turn up the quality? im no DM fan myself, not worth the $$ on this side of the globe.
-
And the DVMRe-Pro .. 4 channel 120pps .. i was going to mention this one but the price tag might scare him
-
No not that camera, but then add to that price a Housing, Lens, and then some Infrared Lighting (required), or a Light Pole and labour to install the light pole, plus the time to set it up and get it working properly ..... then its in a bulky housing as well ... just not worth it. Basically for a dealer pricing, the parts with a 1/2" Lens, Housing, and Infrared work out to the same price. Then add the labour to install all that, plus the set up time involved. The Extreme Camera is plug and play and all in one. Did you see this one .. its pitch dark there with the head lights coming, i cant even see the plate myself standing there in person .. but the camera gets it, one camera needed for front and back. I wouldnt mind trying that pano camera though

Most of the stand alones that claim real time, is simply real time in low quality mode.

We tried every major camera, the previous company had some wide dynamic day night cameras there also, panos cant remember the model. See i get called in after they have tried everything else and it doesnt do the job they want it to do, thats most of my jobs now, special applications. So I bring in a products that are guarenteed to work for the application at hand. If you want a camera that is guaranteed to work to capture only license plates, 24/7, this is the one, and its plug and play. Also, for overview shots we have vandal domes wall mounted capturing every view you can think of They had some ugly Pelco housings we ripped them all down, looks so neat now and better images.
-
You cant do it for $500, no camera you have would work in these places i am installing them, sorry.
-
Trust me, if you need a licence plate camera, this is the one to buy. They have a ceiling mount wedge version also. We tried it the cheap way and it doesnt work well enough. Course in your parking garage, you have lighting 24/7 so its not as much of an issue, im talking outside on the road where there are no street lights.

newbie day night camera needed, read old threads already..

roger .. -
didnt mean "you" was a US company though. Anyway, we also tried wide dynamic cameras, day night cameras, zoom cameras, you name it we tried it, extra lighting, etc, but nothing would work properly, day time was never a problem, but it was nightime where the issues were. They are a luxury gated community so they werent going to spend $2000 on installing a large lamp post. The camera works great and is virtually hidden.

Wrong Voltage for CCTV Cameras issue
rory replied to jasonbaskett's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
doesnt matter if it was fused, the camera is not fused, it can probably only take as high as 18VDC, so when he put 24VDC on it, it would have burned it up over time or straight away. -
Regular cameras, especially the sam doesnt compare. They had a company like yours previously install several cameras and they didnt do the job. They charged them an arm and a leg and nothing worked, so we got it to work, no questions asked, day and night, 24/7.

those bullets power boards die easily. Basically its probably not the camera, just the power board. -
also, when you install the PC Viewer software, it installs the user manual for the network software and thats found in the start menu also under NETWORK VIEWER. Its a different manual just for the networking side. Rory
