acti is IP, so you need IP software such as Lux Riot, it is not DVR .. though you could probably use something like Thomas' product at Video Insight. To me, IP cameras arent there yet, but some people still prefer it, and it does have its place in certain applications where they can use existing long range wireless networks, or for temporary set ups. -

What's your ideal 16ch MPEG-4 DVR looks like?
rory replied to John_lin78's topic in Digital Video Recorders
would this be something similar to "motion detection"? Not quite, well it is, but it is more advanced, or a variation of. You can set up a section of a locked image, say you pick the car park, you set the image and lock it on a car so thats the normal image, then you select an area, the car (an object), and set it up so that it is listed as a missing object incase it is moved from the video image. You can then send alerts on missing object. Motion detection would be if there is movement in the area of the car, but missing object is if that car moves totally from the original fixed image. They can keep the eclipse cameras cause I dont work foe free! Oh yeah, in CT you may have to join a Union to get gov work .. -

i was searching for info on developing your own type of this app, didnt find anything in open source or even ideas of how to do it, I will continue my search again this week sometime. Would be nice then can add as much encryption as you want .. but hey they have to make money somehow right $28 per PC isnt much I guess, do they offer lower licences ..? Like 10 PCs ..? thanks Rory

Well gotta tell you, great software, easy to use, any dummy can learn it in a flash ..Disk map, evidence shariing, thumbnails, save as Avi, etc Zoom in and out on playback, Decent remote Software, and browser based. .. BUTTTT Now I imagine the Eclipse is just a custom version of the DF software using an SDK .. First for Eclipse you have to use a phone alot as they dont resond to emails much, or get confused as they dont speak english good. Plus they forgot I was the one that contacted them first and gave my colleague a better price that what I can get!!!! Whats up with that ... Plus, they dont warranty the cards, just if they buld them themselves. They use Tiger type PCs, IDE hard drives, with Windows 2000. You dont even get a pass for the bios or to turn off the keyboard lock 3rd party software (Cant remember the software but was Win something). Now, we had one card that came in and was slow, though was supposed to be 240fps was getting slower live display than 120fps card, and this was even after loading it on a couple other brand new PCs .. still slow. Also, another card, came in a PC, wouldnt work at all .. on 3 other PCs with Intel Chips also ... Then another 120fps card in a system built by them, kept locking up on playback, but cant open the PC to check the Mobo or anything as that then voids the only warranty you get ... so had to send it back ...you know $150 shipping here, then $150 there, ... just aint worth the hassle ... Software is simple to use, has a lot of great easy to use features, but hardware has too many issues. It is certainly originally DF cards as thats what the codecs say ... though maybe something happens to them from a conversion from DF to Eclipse !! Sorry I cant push a company with little warranty that knocks together PCs that crash or their cards dont work too many times, AND cant speak or properly comprehend english in the USA ... sorry .. In this case I dont have access to the Router, they have their own IT company doing that, but yes that is open for remote admin. I wanted to actually turn over the admin of the PC DVR to the IT guy so he can use all his own passwords etc, maybe install PC anywhere, Remote Desktop or whatever he uses ... as was just a subbed job, not my client direct, but I guess I will turn it over the the person I was subbed from .. i just dont want the main password .. I did leave on all Remote Access and Desktop services on this DVR though normally I turn it off, Ill test this new DVR i have sitting here to see if TCP Filtering and Turning off all the normal services I turn off, whether the DVR and VNC will still work. question,. is it only the free version of RealVNC that has the encryption turned off? Thanks Rory

true, i stay away from any kind of juice over low voltage .. though seeing what the electricians make around here, and how much work they get, electrician, and plumbing is what I would do if I had to do it again .. i mean if i planned to stay in the bahamas that is ... They just get the most work over any kind of trade .. or anything ... also AC does very well, but thats pretty much seasonal ..i have a freind that is in AC, still makes a killing. Use to do it in the US for a few years where he went to college etc, but came back here because for some reason can make more here in that area ... just hot as heck, not exactly the most pleasant job ..

nope ... they cant get out of the full screen video window, and also, on a firewall that doesnt allow any access besides the ports that are opened for that PC. First they got to crack my 6 word and digit pass and well, the place aint exactly a bank or something so i really doubt any real crackers will give a hoot .. But I do hear what you are saying .. Its on a Sonic Wall Firewall by the way ..i couldnt even access the darn net when i was there darnit Anyway, anything as easy to use as Real VNC but more secure .. and free?? I mean its greeeat and simple to connect ..and first time i ever used it I wouldn't trust it on my PC though!! LOL though I disable all remote access to my PC including Windows Remote Desktop and Access services .. i just paranoid yah know ..!

Hmm, why not a Deisel Generator? What did it cost and how large was it, voltage wise ..? I have a client that might be interested .. for real .. also does it have voltage regulation built in, or can order one with that ..? It would be to power a whole house for example, though they have a generator but looking for some power protection as well, so voltage regulation is a requirement. thanks Rory

man thats sooo coool, will they come to the Bahamas, or Singapore ?

My Trip Lite Line Conditioner I bought back in '96 has lasted since then and still going strong, never lost anything while on the line conditioner (voltage regulator), they tend to cost a little more than APC though from looking online lately? Rory
