I used the DVI outout on a Sony Entertainment PC to a 50" Plasma HDTV, not impressive, really was a waste of money .. That said we're using $800 27" LCDs from tiger and they are great with regular VGA output -

Static IP necessary?
rory replied to securitymonster's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Well i know for sure Linksys 4 and 8 port routers now support DDNS as Ive been using them for some months like this ... im using the DynDns.org service .. you just enter your account username and password in the DDNS part of the router. It works for stand alones also, but only if you can type in a name instead of an IP, or goto your account and check the IP ... or have it emailed to you. Rory -
update - been using Real VNC and it seems to be working well ..

ok, sorry but i dont own a PC store nor do i go out buying $1000 mobos and cards but yall still didnt answer the question, since you in the first world .. what about ADD slots .. for digital screens ..???? I saw a Mobo the other day with this when I was searching for a Geo mobo. -
27 or 32" LCD Monitors are really cheap now ($800 US) .. over Plasmas ...they are still very large and can fit alot of cameras on them ....
-
Yes, you sacrifice quality for speed. Wavelet has to be the best I have seen, Mjpeg is around the same. Depends if we are talking high end, mid range, or budget DVRs ... 4 channel RTOS stand alones? -$500 - Power Tellecomm - Mjpeg -$1000 - Active-Tek / Uriel /Eclipse Nubix - Mpeg4 Mpeg4 isnt even in most high end RTOS stand alone DVRs yet ... most are Wavelet, Mjpeg, or Mpeg2. PC based mostly all have choices of Mpeg4, Mjpeg, and Wavelet, selectable. Rory

really?? not the mobos i just got, and they had all the bells and whistles .. try ADD instead .. he he he he ... for yall home teatre guys .. anyway its useless if your monitor has a slow refresh rate .. im running 150hz on my PC right now.. with Geovision activeX the faster refresh rate is highly recommended, and this just from writing some custom software for a low bandwidth GEO location -
Well slowest to fastest in the order you listed. Quality, MJpeg from what I have used is pretty much as clear as Wavelet which is clearer then Mpeg 2 or 4, but takes up more space recording. As for DVRs, depends what your budget is, and amount of camera channels you are looking at. Also whether you want RTOS or PC? Rory

Most DVRs, mid to high end stand alone embedded Units, OR PC based, not OEM types, will give you multi DVR network software, though its not like local video quality (non networked video). GE rocks the bomb on stand alone embedded DVRs and they can use existing CCTV monitors. They have various models especiually one that is slim and can be rackmounted one on top of the other saving space (DVMRe-CT - my favourite RTOS DVR ) But I thought you said in another thread you were more into the PC based with lots of spare parts? Yes you get higher quality image from most stand alones, on CRT CCTV monitors. Though with PC based DSP cards, you can also add these cards to get high quality images out to the CCTV Monitor or TV ..then have the features of the PC DVR. A 1 channel DVR add on to a mux CAN be cheaper ... but in the long run, for extra features, even if using an embedded stand alone DVR, you get more features with the all in one, as well as faster recording speeds, and smart motion recording. Basically you need to decide PC or RTOS, PC - more features and faster speeds, RTOS slower but Plug and Play anywhere. Basically what brands can you get where you are? If you use networked video for the DVRs you can use a 27 or 34" LCD or Plasma and watch 30+ cameras at one time in 1 window .. with GE for example you can view 64 cameras and 16 DVRs in one multi view. PC Dvrs like Geo and Iview give you around 30-36 and they also offer even more features. Rory

Most new systems come with AGP video onboard, and if you have the choice of a PCI/AGP card, go with an AGP card. Down here, PCI Cards cost more than AGP cards. AGP is faster. Rory -

never heard of that card, but id recommend at least a Radeon 128MB DDR Video card. -
you can buy the UPS with a Line Conditioner (Voltage Regulator) built in. It just costs more.
-
No. a UPS is an Uninterupted Power Supply, basically a back up battery, it does nothing for dips or spikes in power voltage. It can still stay powered on with even only a little bit of voltage, when the spike comes through it cant stop it, and bang goes your equipment. Thats what a voltage regulator is for.
-
Voltage Regulator - Is also known as Line Conditioner or Line stabilizer, or Voltage Stabilizer .. If you pay enough you can noadays find a UPS with a Built in Voltage Regulator. Dont mistake a Surge Protector for a Voltage Regulator, as they are different, the surge protector is almost useless, and will fry quick, ive seen them burned soo many times. Basically, it doesnt let your voltage go over a certain voltage, and when it goes under a certain voltage, it disconnects the power - this is what it did Saturday Night/Sunday AM when we had a major brownout .. Ive had the same one from 1996 and it has survived all the hurricanes, tropical storms, regular brown outs, daily low voltage, and daily spikes/dips in power. The only times I have lost a hard Drive (2 total since 1996), CD Drive, and even just a Cable to a Zip Drive, was when I took my PC off my voltage regulator and at those particular times i was unlucky enough to have a dip in power ... they all died (and the cable no longer worked). But like i said, we have abnormal power problems here ... sometimes my Voltage Regulator will click all night long and sometimes for weeks on end ... dips galore ..

I think all the big boys are overpriced, I mean they all have their pros and con products, not everything they make is great, none of them. Bosch with their 1/2" camera basically just matched Panos 1/2" camera "price" .. someone needs to drop the price and help us poe peeps that need some decent products .. they base their pricing on the prices from other manufacturers is all ... something needs to change .. Ofcourse most of the big boys products are basically alot better than the OEM stuff ... now i said "most" .

Huhhhh ..? Waiting on it now .. Scott??

BOSCH.. Need Urgent Feedback!!!!!
rory replied to cctv_down_under's topic in General Digital Discussion
Okay It says Bosch on it though, and DESA something .. (maybe phillips .. the locksmith that installed it only sells bosch/phillips)..? I thought that was what you had mentioned before, but now that I saw the other posts I think it was the Dibos, that you said were the bomb I did query why they wanted to switch out one of the best DVRs on the market ... anyway it came down to wanting something that took up less space. and didnt require a Keyboard or mouse ... wasnt my client just was shown what they wanted me to do ... anyway havent switched it yet .. Its a PC DVR by the way ... looks okay and has TV out .. will see what its like when we get our hands on it -
Is there a certified pano cctv dealer program? And do you mean selling direct to certified dealers or just sell to anyone? This is interesting because they are very strict about sales in their business telephone division. I have a supplier who is a pano wholesaler. He can't sell to anyone less then a certified pano dealer. I can't qualify as a dealer without a storefront. maybe different companies like how samsung has various different companies that sell under the samsung name ..?
