Well sounds more like you have some sought of DIY camera ... in any event, if it is a PCI card, or Camera Direct into the PC like you say, anything from Luxriot to go1234 will work, LuxRiot being the best but most expensive. They work with Analogue cameras (direct input) or PCI DVR cards, as well as IP cameras. Typically a CCTV System is made up of a CCTV Camera and a CCTV DVR, either PC based using a PCI Card, or a Stand alone system (non PC based). PC based will have more features, and a stand alone can be more of a machine with better stabilty, though this differs and really depends on how much you pay for either of them. Basicallly, in the CCTV world, you get what you pay for. Both types will have their own software, with the stand alone DVR generally having an embedded Linux RTOS (OS on the Chip like a cell phone), and sometimes another less known OS (such as the GE Interlogix which uses the Nucleous RTOS). Normally both will offer remote connection to the DVR using a windows based network software program, so you can view the cameras from anywhere that has internet, once the DVR is set up properly for this. As for what you already have, normally if it is a DIY camera/kit, it will come with some form of windows software. If the camera came with a CD let us know. If it doesn't, then it perhaps is just a CCTV camera, and requires a DVR like I mentioned above. Its nothing major, just depends what you want to do with it, and how much you want to spend. Rory

Hi, and welcome .. First I think you mean CCTV? Secondly its 4am here ... Arghh Third and Last, do you have existing cameras or a Digital video recorder, I see you mentioned a Video card, so it leaves me to think you dont have anything yet ..? Cheers. Rory

try average 5 attic alarm installs a day in the middle of summer, and, all year round with average temps 80-90 in the shade (100-130 in the summer), and the same temp at night no change, 6 years in a row! and lets not mention no electrical or building codes .. i wont say what i experienced cause its just sick ..! I wont even mention the hundreds of ghetto shanty town homes ...yah know the ones you see on TV in ethopia .. when you finally get unstuck from the live electrical wire you fall out the attic puking your guts up half the time!!

oh well, wont be getting the ganz after all, sticking to Extreme and WizKid all around .. easier and great tech support .. Let me know what you guys end up with ..

can yah say NEVERFOCUS again .. say it tree timez .. their DVRs are just as bad ... its a wonder how the largest Bahamian bank is buying their cameras to use in their banks, but then I think they found them on Ebay, as they are also installing them themselves ... Guess some people just dont care about clarity like i do .. bad quality video just scratches my brain with a pick .. it hurts that much!!

seems the tropical storms from saturday and sunday has run them off for now ... yep its been major storms ... lost cell service for a whole day cause they got hit by lightning ...and rain is soo deep it isnt funny, major drain issues here yah see ... was considering just lighting a bottle of 151 Bacardi and throwing it on them, cheaper than "Petrol" (gasoline) but then of course id loose my PC plus id think the landlord would be peed off ..

waz up ... for some reason from last night, ive had a ton of termites all over my wall and door, and they are even getting inside due to gaps in the door, i was swatting them with my broom since last night, i spraid bug spray this AM but they seem like they are indesctructable ..! I found joy dishwashing liquid kills them quick, but it takes alot of it ... Dont know where they are coming from, but maybe somrthing to do with the heat and the time of year, I have had them before like this but wasnt that bad before, its like the attack of the Termites ... now that said, I THINK they are termites, look like large ants, have wings and legs, but dont move much if on the wall or ceiling, other wise they crawling like crazy ..specially when i chasing them ..!! Okay, so quick question, how to kill them, and where to look. We have an old wooden attuic I only dare to go in, gawd knows whats up there. say they are up there .. whats a quick easy way to kill termites, IF thats what they are ... i can get an image of them if you like ... My wall was black from them last night, right now, ive killed so many there are dead bugs everywhere!! Arghhh ,, i can even take the ****roaches as they come by the few, and ants, spray them once they ar gone ,,, but these suckers just know how to stay alive!! thanks Rory

Geovision Port forwarding assignments
rory replied to WildCard's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
that aint gonna happen, Linksys is fine for most apps and cisco for the rest .. I mean we're not the CIA ... -

so it doesnt run on windows? If not, then its pretty much no good for GEO and most other PC DVRs, worth talking about ... -
A better way to remote desktop.

though it was the same ting ..? i took it off think someone was trying to steal me porrn.. -
anyone seen a Sharp DVR yet .. Guess we should steer far from them hey ..

Yeah I hear you man, yeah I noticed that part on security cameras also, I think they may have had too many dealings with low end clients or Sams Club 17 years, now that is some experience ... I used a Cmos camera sent to me by mistake (eclise) the other day, and it was soo crappy, i gave the distributor a piece of my mind, since the product i ordered said nothing about it being a Cmos camera, or I never would have ordered the POS .. plus it was supposed to be a 3.5" dome, and turned out to be 2.5" ... havent heard back from them since then! There is certainly a HUGE difference between CCD and Cmos. Though that said, I saw a digital camera by i think Mustak or something like that, was a mini mega pixel camera, and images werent bad, but then thats a still camera, and "still" cost alot more than a Cmos CCTV camera.

have you tried bug spray, not on the glass, but the housing, this normally keeps them off for a couple weeks at a time, at least using the bug spray that we get down here ... we used to have regular service calls at the local food store chains just spraying the motion detectors every couple weeks so the spiders and other insects, wouldnt set them off, it would last a while then it would start to get congested again, and just needed a good spray .. course didnt stop the man size rats they have in the stores down here! (we have a basically non existent health dept so you can maybe imagine how dirty the food stores are here) -
small, or "smart" no ofcourse not .. its all good .. I agree, I realise the larger the screen the more it will pixelise .. even with CCTV Tube Monitors .. just the client wants to know why it looks so crappy on their $8,000 TV, and no explanation is good enough for someone that spends that much on a TV So basically, i only use the mods if I really must, otherwise i give it the extra little bit of quality it can get, from direct input .. and/or use smaller TV

"CCDs have been the dominant solid-state imagers since the 1970s, primarily because CCDs gave far superior images with the fabrication technology available. CMOS image sensors required more uniformity and smaller features than silicon wafer foundries could deliver at the time. DALSA founder and CEO Dr. Savvas Chamberlain was a pioneer in developing both technologies in the 1960s, and his leadership helped bring CCD technology forward. Only recently has semiconductor fabrication advanced to the point that CMOS image sensors can be useful and cost-effective in some mid-performance imaging applications. CCDs offer superior image performance (as measured in quantum efficiency and noise), and flexibility at the expense of system size. They continue to rule in the applications that demand the highest image quality, such as most industrial, scientific, and medical applications. CMOS imagers offer more integration (more functions on the chip), lower power dissipation (at the chip level), and smaller system size at the expense of image quality and flexibility. They are well-suited to high-volume, space-constrained applications where image quality is not paramount, such as security cameras, PC peripherals, toys, fax machines, and some automotive applications. Costs are similar at the chip level. Early CMOS proponents claimed CMOS imagers would be much cheaper because they could be produced on the same high-volume wafer processing lines as mainstream logic or memory chips. This has not been the case. The accommodations required for good imaging perfomance have limited CMOS imagers to specialized, lower-volume mixed-signal fabrication processes. CMOS imagers also require more silicon per pixel. CMOS cameras may require fewer components and less power, but they may also require post-processing circuits to compensate for the lower image quality. The larger issue around pricing is sustainability. Since many CMOS start-ups pursue high-volume, commodity applications from a small base of business, they must price below costs to win business. For some, the risk will pay off and their volumes will provide enough margin for viability. But others will have to raise their prices, while still others will go out of business entirely. High-risk startups can be interesting to venture capitalists, but imager customers require long-term stability and support. " from: http://www.dalsa.com/markets/ccd_vs_cmos.asp

Nah, I think Plasmas, and big screen Tubes, just dont like Modulated CCTV video I mean they dont even do greate with direct video input either ... 13" TVs have the best quality Its Cable TV coax ... Its also amplified so thats not an issue. Its a UHF / RF Mod, its channel 73. On the 13" Kitchen TV it is fine, except since its in 9 way view, its very very small .. the brand spanking new 50" HD Plasma, you can see whats going on, but its far from a great image. Satelite and Cable TV though are perfect, as is DVD. And its going out to several Plasmas of different brands and sizes, all the same, except the newer HD one is slightly better. When you look at the 21" CCTV Monitor though, it puts them all to shame.

File Transfer Protocol .. ? Anyway, its like access to a folder on a remote computer, for transferring files to and from. .. .. Axis should be okay, make sure to get enough inputs for each camera, not just 1 input and splitting it, as otherwise your remote quality will be affected, and useless for remote recording. Also, software for the axis is not cheap, depends on the amount of cameras, but decent software like LuxRiot can cost as much as $1000 for a 16 channel licence. BUT, IP is the only thing that will do what you want in this case. Another option is maybe something like the Video Insight Hybrid PC DVRs, I think they can record local, as well as IP cameras. May want to check with them to see what they can offer. Rory

Ive used the Channel Vision Mods, and a Cable System, with amplifiers, and still not as clear as direct input into the Plasma HDTV. Ive never seen on anyone elses TVs with decent video either using other mods. Ofcourse the quality on the TVs arent close to the higher quality on the CCTV Monitor anyway so that doesnt help .. personally i still use them, but only if there is no way to get wire to each TV.
