    Provideo New DVR

Thanks loop, where yah been?? Loop to the rescue Its not the one I was thinking about but Ill take a closer look .. Rory
  2. It does make a difference if you or your electrician bends that chinese one too much .. the inner Copper breaks .. while the stronger one wont ..
  3. A local distributor, seeing as it is sooo heavy for shipping When I say distributor, I mean an actual distributor, not a company with OEM products with their name on it, though even most of them will have some good cable also ..

    Provideo New DVR

yeah but doesnt this one look very familiar? I agree their DVRs are normall POS's but if this is the one Im thinking of ... could be a switch for them .. by the way I just found out their CVC-637EX has gone from a low light color camera, to a color only camera .. in other words though it sais Day Night on the box .. it is not really .. will keep posted what they say in my response, which was long ..! I still love some of their other cameras though

    RG6 vs RG59

Hmmmm, well having used RG6 on jobs in the very far back past ... RG59 is much easier to use when connecting 16 cables to the back of a DVR, while Rg6 is a pain and does not bend as easy. RG59 is basically easier to work with, and RG6 only gives you an extra 300' of distandce (RG59 - 1500', RG6 - 1800'). Ive used RG6 on a job and it got just as much interference as the RG59 did. Its really up to you. If you can find RG6 with Copper in and out, and same or near the price, and you dont mind working with it .. then go for it. But BNCs are also a pain to put on RG6. I still have a job with RG6 and Fconnectors/BCN adaptors, they loose video every so often as the connection between the 2 connectors is not "tight", when they knock the DVR they loose video and have to knock the DVR again .. no im not proud of it, I dindnt run the cable and suggested to them many times to replace it with RG59. F-conn VS BNC

if its a simple job, just use some good BNC twist ons .. otherwise the guys will reply with crimp or compression options ...
  11. I tell you though the job i did on the weekend with the thinner siamese with asian all over it, was soo easy to work with .. but i imagine that it is also soo easy to break! Even though the other is harder to strip, i still prefer its strength.
  12. What it is, is a company called Kalatel, which was bought out by GE a couple years ago. Thats why you may see some of us still call it Kalatel. Kalatel made some of the first DVRs, and have been making CCTV equipment for years. Kalatel bought out a camera line called GBC a couple years before they themselves were bought out by GE. GBC are their discreet camera line, the mini domes, and the hidden cameras, etc. Yep, like all big boys, they all buy alot of their stuff from someone else and rebage, though they have kept the CCTV area pretty much designed within at least. They are obviously going to keep their secrets to themselves as far as that is concerned, though they do claim their DVRs are made in the US .. ofcourse the components are mainly IMB Power PC, and some other micro computer stuff, though I guess they do the design and build it so thats what counts I dont have a GE camera here right now, but It sais on it, Made in Taiwan (or china . cant remember ) Alot of web sites/companies will call their cameras SONY but most of the time it is just an OEM using a SONY chip, like alot of them do today. If its a real Sony it will have the Sony on the camera image .. though even that I have seen Photochopped onto the image on at least 1 web site! Sony has great CHIPS but there cameras are not actually the best .. their Cam Corders rock though ...
  13. The Cable that has seperate jackets, the one I like the most, labeled as this: 1C/20 AWG RG 59/U 2C/18 AWG TYPE CL2 OR CM (UL) E179334 But a single jacket is good too. Just when you have to strip the wire for the power supply, having a seperate jacket is better instead of having the raw black and red wires with no protection besides their normal thin cover. Neater with box cameras also. My previous distrubutor just always sent the dual jacket, the new one, not sure yet, will have to wait and see. The rolls we have here now are from Eclipse, very heavy Duty, but just the one jacket. Still good and durable though. Rory
  14. Right now I take what they send me. Its still alot better than using RG6U Almuninum braid found locally ... an electrician just pieced together RG59, RG58, RG6U, for a job we just did, ... it was a pain in the but, they didnt want to spend for the real wire Another 2 jobs i just did we have 2 different types of Siamese RG59, one was okay but very thin jacket, felt cheap, had chinese all over it, the other was great, hard to cut, heavy duty - that is the one I get sent when I order it from my distributor .. Rory
  15. Hi, yep .. actually that is wholesale dealer price, before our resident mod jumps in, they dont like us posting dealer pricing, just as there are so many DIyers in here and can conflict with someones business .. maybe // Anyway, PM Hermin so you can get in the dealer section and we can discuss pricing there But yeah you are right on, its not that much more. And yeah the OEM means unbranded, small name companies. I missed a company out though, never used their cameras but they are supposed to be very good as well, Ikegami. Me personally, i need to sell something I can get my hands on easy enough, and that I have instant pricing on for quotes. I wanted to carry the Samsung Techwin line, just from the specs, but have had to go to what I can get. For box cameras, this is the selection I am currently using .. -GE KTC-540CE for a BW Exview (with IR up to 1100nm), -GE KTC-840CE for indoor or outdoor low light, -Ganz ZCY30 Wide Dynamic Camera, as its one of the least expensive Wide Dynamics and has had very good reviews, -Panasonic Day Night Wide Dynamic (for those applications like Gas Stations, etc, where they need Day Night and have varying lighting conditions and glare such as from vehicle head lights), -Sanyo 4594 Day Night Camera (has IR resonse up to 1100nm) True Day Night and inexpensive -GE KTC-2000DN True Day Night, Exview for low light color and switch to BW low light Ganz also has some good Day Nights as well as color cameras, but I like to use what I know .. GE is easier to get my hands on also than the others. As for compact Box cameras, that can fit in smaller housings and dome housings: -Panasonic has a mini Wide Dynamic Day Night Box Camera..WV-CP474H -Ganz has a Mini Wide Dynamic Box camera also ..ZC-YHW701N -GE has a Mini Color Camera ..KTC-215CC -GE has a Mini Exview Color camera ..KTC-240CCE -GE also has a Mini BW Exview camera..KTC-115CC Rory
  16. Name brands, GE, Bosch, Sanyo, Ganz .. to name a few. Ive used the first 3 of these and they were all great. Ive used the OEM box cameras like 4 years ago and never went back after moving to the big boys. Toshiba and JVC are supposed to be very good also. Samsung Techwin (not Samsung GVI which is more typically pushed in the US) has some great specs but havent tried them yet. Panasonic also has some impressive cameras, but the price is way out of wack... The majority of Box cams I have installed in retails here have been the GE KTC-840CE Exview High Res Color camera, with Fujinon or Computar Varifocal AI Lenses. Great image quality on those. All using Altronix 24VAC Power Supplies. Rory
  17. no prob, just came back from that job with the provideos, have to go back out tonight as I was missing a part, the DVR!!! The contractor didnt bring it yet Have to go on yet another job now for the rest of today and tomorrow but will get some shots tonight of those domes when I go up there tonight .. price of gas at $4 a gallon this 1 hour drive there and 1 hour drive back in 100 degrees traffic jams, is getting anoying for the little $$ my contractor charged them .. arghhh!
  18. No, I pay due to shipping and Customs Import Taxes ... Its $70-85 for the good stuff, the cheap stuff is around the same price .. there is even more expensive stuff but you dont need that. Rory
  19. Just ask for: 95% COPPER RG-59 (18/2) SIAMESE Looking at $70-85 for 500', I land mine for around $200! I sell it to the client for cost on system jobs, generally around $250 to be sure. Also the better one has a seperate jacket for the power cable instead of it in just one jacket. rory
  20. Is this indoor or outdoor? Ive used the GE domes and generally they were a great image, except 1 or 2 faulty ones, but its the price that got me. They have some high res varifocal indoors and outdoors cameras, and day night Exview. Their backlighting sucks though just FYI, and their Ultraview is crap. Their box cameras are great though, all except the Ultraview. WizKid is a nice dome also, indestructable. Ive heard the Ganz are really good, their outdoor domes are much more $$ than GE even though. Their new indoor dome is very low priced though and fellow members here say it is great. Ive used Sanyo Day Night Domes, great cameras. Of the above ive used, the WizKid is the easiest to install, but only comes in color or BW, not a true day night. I just installed 9 Provideo Low Light High Res Vandal Resistant domes, will let you know how they go. So far the day image looks great. Going out there in a few minutes to adjust some more, and this evening to focus properly and setup for vechicles etc. My first impression was they were a pain to install and easy to damage due the a couple dumb manufacturer includes, and i broke the first one, well thats cause I read the instructions for the first time .. just ignore the instructions, its wrong! Got it working again with some clear caulk seal and some soldering .. Plus just have to know when wall mounting to move the little pigtail cable or it breaks out of the clips by default. I still prefer the WizKid for regular color or BW as they are a neat white housing, and have an easy to use 360 degree gimble. Another one to note was an Ameba Color Dome I received, nice picture also, but not low light, just color. Price too high for not being a big name brand. Sanyo was great color switch to BW and high res, but also a pain to install. Can anyone say bullet cameras ...Hmmmmm, so easy to install Lets see, I charge $75 to install a bullet, and $150-250 to install a Vandal Proof Dome .. wonder why Also tell him he will never get the same image with a Dome that he will with a Box camera ... and a bullet will save on cost and still get a good image.. Rory
  21. Yeah its the software and how it can work with the card. Its all still kind of confusing to me, partciularly one brand Im using has various versions of software and cards .. I think GEO is actually coming out with a card that does hardware compression. Iview has a stand alone embedded XP system that has Hardware compression. Otherwise not too sure on what else there is ... Dont get much call for that here, and if I do I sell them the Iview stand alone, either way it wont be cheap. I still have my doubts on these though. Time will tell when i get to try one out. The Digiflower card with the Eclipse Software, has a setting for 720x480 and Mpeg4+ but it doesnt look any better than 640x480, and unless you are running that res on the PC then its still not clear like an RTOS stand alone .. at least not with this card or the others Ive used. Running 640x480 though makes it much clearer, but if you have an LCD monitor then it wont go that low. The low screen size doesnt effect the DVR side, just when you come out of the server software, windows is too small .. Rory
  22. There are not many cards that give you 16 channels at 480pps and 640x480. And I believe this is due to the fact that it is using software compression (?), the hardware compression cards normally provide 480pps and 720x480, but these are rare.

    problem with everfocus cameras

problems I have had in the past with at least the cheaper 12VDC domes, was changing lighting colors .. normally could just be because it is a cheap camera, doent have a great electronic iris. But if you are going to upgrade perhaps get a 24VAC one time to be certain. Or at least get one to try it in the same location. As for failure rate, its because it is Everfocus, sorry.

Suggestions on Cameras for my home!!!

he he he .. did that today with a zoom camera, need to connect the monitor to it tomorrow and do it and the other domes properly .. the shouting back and forth never works ... They tend to more than often be focused in all the way to 4mm and wide, without having to look at them, Varifocals that is .. not all but the domes for sure .. but in the far focus it requires more work ..
