    Laptop wont shut down

Yeah, looked at the bios already. that was actually the first thing i did, reset to defaults. Basically they have a lame bios with no options, no power options at all. Power was also opne of the first things I looked into. I even cleaned up the previous OS and had it clean and running great, bnut still after everything would not shut down or restart, just locked up. Had to back up 4GB of the clients data ... reload windows and still doing it .. oh well, must be a bad mobo or something, its not new, its a 1.4Ghz, runs smooth but yah know .. YEah it happens even when trying to restart in windows XP setup, from the DOS mode, blue screen setup ... basically it just locks up and does nothing until you power down manually.

are you trying to see in pitch dark?? Have you cleaned the lens face? Have you tried to focus it? Could be bad also, shiit happens. The ones I have tested are equal in quality to a High Res Box camera.

    Laptop wont shut down

thanks, I went through it but nothing on shut down, besides what I have seen already on google. The thing is it isnt software as even in DOS/Windows setup, it wouldnt shut down. Basically it runs fine, just wont shut down, or restart. Maybe a bad BIOS or something to do with power management in the bios?

The color bullet I have here, doubt its out of your range, except for the lens itself which is not wide, as its a 1/4" camera with a 4mm lens. Do you know what lens is on the cameras now? They dont quite look like 3.6mm 1/3". If you are on a really tight budget, the eclipse would be what you want. If you want more clarity and a better product, Provideo but costs more than eclipse. Anything more than 50' from the cameras focal view wont be able to make out much. When you say magnatude, you want to zoom the image further away? If so you will cut out some of the area that you now have near the camera. Driveway cam may just need a decent 3.6mm 1/3" Camera. You can always buy some micro lenses to replace the 3.6mm with if its still not wide enough, but wider than 3.6 normally gets more blurry, less clarity. They normally have 2.5 mm in micro lenses and should be able to pick them up from any security dealer/distributor. Eclipse has these also for sale seperately. You could have them install it on the camera for you, Otherwise, to change a micro lens on a bullet you would need a monitor/tv, unscrew the face of it, and replace the old lens with the new one by unscrewing it out, and screwing in the new one. Then have to make sure the face is screwed on tight afterwards or water could get in and kill the camera. Some of them come with a mini screw to loosen or tighten the lens, some only come with a spring. Eclipse is right in your area, might want to check them out. If you want something else, let me know .. I would sell you them but im in the Bahamas Rory

Suggestions on Cameras for my home!!!

Hi, One thing to note is the cheap color bullets are generally 1/4 inch, so they wont be as wide as the BW camera which is generally 1/3 inch. Black and white cameras will see much much more in low light that a color camera. As for Day Night cameras, the cheap ones, with IR may see, but not much .. They can be very blurry, or at least hard to make out a persons face. A good day night is a TRUE day night, which will say it has a mechanical IR cut Filter. They normally will cost alot more than $200 even for dealers let alone retail. The best way to do it, and the cheapest, would be to just use BW where there is not much light, and color where there is enough light at night. Look at the Provideo CVC-325WPSW for a BW bullet, has IR though I dont utilize them, but the quality of the image is great for what it is, and they last. They arent the cheapest but I have used the cheapest BW Bullets and they dont compare, even a cheap OEM Exview low low light BW bullet, i have one here and actually it just died in a heavy storm the other day, but basically they are blurry at night, even though they do see much more than regular BW (0.1lux), and the day time is not great. I just dont see the point of seeing in t he dark if you cant make anything out anyway (it was a freebee camera by the way). And some of the Provideo cheaper BW plain bullets, didnt match the quality of this one either. Different OEM manufacturers I imagine. High resolution is definately better, especially for remote video, but like you (probably?), I cant afford that for my own apt. Hence the Eclipse bullets .. if they steal them then i dont loose much If you are intersted in the Eclipse Bullets Pm/Email me .. Also where do you live? Rory

    Backing up 4GB

umm, thanks guys but i used windows XP drag and drop and burned and it worked in my PC .. the Nero fixes wont work, tried them all .. no go with this DVR/CDRW .. 4GB over the LAN ... no tanks ... anwyay I needed some CDs of the data so just burned it all. .
  15. Yep .. i found a good cheap bullet that actually works and gives a good image. Beyond that the domes ive used, except the expensive brand names, just have looked bad. ..
  16. Is that Musak Amp for audio? If so, audio will definatelty cause noise. I have a system in an audio store, so i went through some hell with that one!
  17. I havent used the P3 yet but heard they are good. Altronix, I just basically get the fused power supplies. Cheap domes just normally look like crap, bottom line. Their lighting ability is normally very bad so you can get alot of noise when it is dim, and when there is alot of light it could be too bright. One I had some good luck with though, on a somewhat cheap side, is the GE Value Line Color Dome. Its not exactly as cheap as the OEM domes, but it is still cheap compared to their other domes.

    Remote viewing

if the router uses port 8080, and so does the HTTP server, then you need to change the HTTP server to port 80, and forward that port. You could also use port 81, but youd need to enter :81 after the IP and forward that instead. Port 80, IE will recognise it by default without entering the port.

You have to port forward port 80 for a HTTP server, if in fact the Kodicom card has one. Routers normally use port 8080.
  20. Just make sure the cable is copper braided and solid copper center. RG59 is easiest to use and the most common in this form, also comes in Siamese cable with 18AWG power cable. Then just get some BNC twist ons, or crimp ons. Any distributor should carry a good grade cable and BNC. I have used Rg6 Aluminum Braid in the past where there was no other choice, and it worked but why take the chance. As for the power supply, the cheap ones will work, though something like Altronix or P3, are generally better units. IF the client can afford it then its best to go with something like those. If the video is good on a TV, and bad on the DVR, then you could have a bad card.
  21. BNC Connectors are like 70 cents each.
