thanks. yeah but i just checked it doesnt work with my linksys router. The only other option is TZO.com. I want to keep it seperate from the PCs, cause these are slooow PCs already.
  2. doubt its going to be swiss made! or at least not real rolex .. whats the law in the US about buying knockoffs, is it against the law to sell it, but not to buy it? Just curious, sounds like could be a good online business from here ... even so, things like real rolexes, etc, perfume, etc are all cheap here than in the US .. dont ask me why .. cause the cost of living is double here ..

Never seen a SP2 PC cause any issues yet ... must be hardware issues. In fact I only switched my main PC to XP when they came out with SP2, it is much faster than SP1 and more secure, 2 main reasons to switch. anyway, should work fine with SP1 ...make sure you extract/unzip the files first and are not just running the set up from within a compressed folder .. it will never update the files otherwise. I only had 1 extra Cat5 cable anyway so Could only have 1 on at a time .. But i just found another cable so both are up. Okay for get IE for now .. just download the software they are small and install quick, ad auto connect with pass etc. Iview http://www.bahamassecurity.com/uploads/Xtreme-iviewDVR.zip (Mpeg4 Compression for iview if you get an error - http://www.bahamassecurity.com/uploads/ICSetup.exe) And the topic - an Eclipse CCTV 30fps digiflower card. You can use the software from them using xtreme1.gotdns.com:81 in the IE browser or download the client soft from them for the 900 PC DVR at starDVR.com .... or just use this simple custom soft i threw together last night just to see the quality : http://www.bahamassecurity.com/uploads/xtremeeclipse.zip (no frills just connects - can do alot more but their activeX is very buggy so i had to tear it apart ... and it installs a ton of DLLs by the way any of their software you use - must be a digiflower thing??)

  8. Ask them to send you a sample unit ... The rest of the specs seem very good though. H.264 is a newer version of MPEG4. But the quality of the image can still be different between DVRs. http://www.vcodex.com/h264.html "Broadcast television and home entertainment have been revolutionised by the advent of digital TV and DVD-video. These applications and many more were made possible by the standardisation of video compression technology. The next standard in the MPEG series, MPEG4, is enabling a new generation of internet-based video applications whilst the ITU-T H.263 standard for video compression is now widely used in videoconferencing systems. MPEG4 (Visual) and H.263 are standards that are based on video compression (“video codingâ€
  9. If its linux embedded then it wont record in 704x576 in real time, that would have to be in 352x288 at the most. There are no embedded DVRs that record real time yet in high res, unless they are using embedded XP. There are however quite a few linux embedded DVRs that are doing what this one is in low res, which to me is useless. As far as OEM, never seen it before, and I could point you in the direction of other ones that have similar specs and have well known brand names. Rory

    Some general camera questions

yes it has one. Its basically a low light color dome, but has a BW mode, All they do to get BW is to kill the Chroma. What it does is get rid of alot of noise in low light. This is not a True Day Night Dome, they run another $100 or so, but its still neat. This has a fixed IR cut filter.

    Some general camera questions

It doesnt say it there but its a low light camera, with day night settings. http://www.csi-speco.com/cart/products/productDetails.asp?prodID=663
  12. the eclipse 4 channel cheap card. Reemember though that 740x480 still wont be clear in full screen on one camera, if you are running 1024x768 or higher ...they need to come out with at least 1024x768 for it to make a real difference.

    Win XP or 2000 Pro?

700mhz .. yes has to be ME .. it was designed for ME so it will be fine.
  14. Hmmm, this Eclipse has 740x480 also, and its a cheap card ..!! Oh yeah and the image quality is not as good as the Iview by the way .. by far.

    Some general camera questions

Yep they dont really come with anything ... if you compare them to the provideo the provideo comes with the kitchen sink! The dome by the way that we just got from Provideo, has 2 dome covers, 1 clear and 1 smoked

    Crappy CCTV system

Thanks for the tips. Absolutely agreed. Should focus on the real strengths of DVR, and set the right expectation for the customer. Yah know its only human to only want more living down here i do it all the time ...its when i think of those poor people just a block away from me (over the hill) kids getting drinking or shower water from a community water pump, or a family of 10 living in a small 10x10 wooden shack ... that I thank gawd im in the position that I am, even though its not the best, but at least I can afford drinking water ..

    Crappy CCTV system

I think the main selling point that we have to remember what DVRs came into play for, was ... ease of use and longer recordings - there is NO TAPE. Tell the client how long it would take searching hours of tapes, compared to using for example, motion detection in a DVR ... Rory

yah but to save them typing in the port number afterwards thats why .. so instead of typeing in http://xtreme1.gotdns.com:81, they type in: http://rory.is.dreaming.org Yah know, for those lazy peeps .. dey call dem clients .. Kind of like i have 1 web site hosting account, buit several sites under that, i just take the name of the request, eg. www.bahamasyellowpages.net, which redirects to www.bahamasyellowpages.net/byp, or in reality it goes to my hosting account, www.bahamassecurity.com/byp ... see basically what I and my host are doing iscloaking the domain name. I havent tried it yet, but im sure you can set up IIS or another web server to do a redirect using a querystring as well, for alot of port 80 IPs. and using DynDns.org using a web hop to the main DDNS Link with a querystring on the end. In fact I had to disable my IIS on my PC before I could change the default port from 80 to 81 on the DVR Server. There are actually several HTTP ports, to find out which ones are open from your Routre / ISP goto www.grc.com and Shields Up. I found out actually that a certain ISP in Connecticut blocks port 80 for example, so to get around this you set up port 81 with port forwarding, and use a web hop with something like DynDns.org to the main name and port 81 on the end of it. Or set up IIS web server and do an ASP redirect using querystrings. Rory PS.ok yall done im logging it off ... for now .. will switch it to a seperate Intel PC which will always be online.. first i have another PC to reload windows on so ill be using that power, etc for tonight.

that is the Eclipse CCTV demo .. for the Iview, the Iview is http://xtreme1.gotdns.com See Iview is port forwarded using Port 80, default HTTP port. So i had to set up port 81 as another HTTP port and port foeward that to the Eclipse DVR for HTTP, then set up a web hop using DynDns.org to the xtreme1.gotdns.com:81 ... Only way I can see to have multiple HTTP servers on the same router without static IPs..? So basically http://rory.is.dreaming.org is redirected to http://xtreme1.gotdns.com:81 and the title is cloaked. Rory
