hmmm, talking about unions, they are crippling our tourism industry as well as many other things .. like quality of work: Our Electric goes off at least once a day now thanks to the union strikes, and then there are the phones which dont work when they have their usual sick outs .. they block the bridge to the main tourist island here, they stop cruise ship passengers from getting off the boats .. they dont care about anyone else here, so I have no love for unions in this country ... http://www.bahamasb2b.com/news/wmview.php?ArtID=5183 http://www.bahamasb2b.com/news/wmview.php?ArtID=4936 http://www.bahamasb2b.com/news/wmview.php?ArtID=4924 http://www.bahamasb2b.com/news/wmview.php?ArtID=5095 http://www.bahamasb2b.com/news/wmview.php?ArtID=4397 and on immigrants .. http://www.bahamasb2b.com/news/wmview.php?ArtID=1494 http://www.bahamasb2b.com/news/wmview.php?ArtID=4898 http://www.bahamasb2b.com/news/wmview.php?ArtID=4777

yep, the cost of living on Long Island is 1/2 that of ours for sure ...
-
its a gamble though ... why is their retail 1/2 the price of all others dealer prices ..? but then, add $150 shipping to the Bahamas ... not worth my chancing it .. warranty would be a pain .. or should I say, cost me tripple in the long run .. unless they sell them in Miami .. Also, where do you see it says it has an IR Cut Filter??

blame it on the foriegnor why dont you! anyway, yeah, how bout getting some wizkid dome housings, dome covers, they are not expensive, i think they will sell them like that. Then just put in your own day night board cameras .. I was thinking about that before .. their domes are incredibly indestructable .. and the covers are cheap even when they get scatched by trying to break them with a sledgehammer, malot, hammer, and a jeep cherokee ..!! -
without looking it up, as far as I can remember, RG6 up to approx 1500-1800 feet, RG59 up to approx 1200 feet. You will have video quality loss on any cable over a distance of 100'+, without using an amplifier. Shorter distances of a couple hundred feet or so you shouldnt notice it too much with RG59. Power drops should not be an issue at a couple hundred feet or so, 300 feet or more you may want to power it at the camera or closer to it, seperately. Just depends on the location. Someone else can pan in on 18AWG distances perhaps. Rory

this may be a silly question, but why didnt you just buy one ready made -
It has a Sony Chip. Sony doesnt make board cameras like that. They only make the full modules like are used in PTZ, etc. That just means it has an electronic Iris, meaning the camera makes all the adjustments. They are just trying to make it sound good. No camera has auto iris, the lens is what has the auto iris, and those mini lenses dont have auto iris.

no problem ... ive been wondering what the industry is like over there as my brother is in manchester and been trying to get me there for a while now. I thought it was dead and that i would probably have to just do web development if I did go ...i write ASP and VB .. time for a couple hours sleep now

see if you can find this one, the ActiveTek. for dead cheap look for the AvTech (totally different from ActiveTek) Also, there are some other dead cheap DVRs, that basically have no name ... Also see if GE is there. they make great High end stand alones (used to be called Kalatel), ive used them for 4 years never been back to one, ever. Here is another one sold in the UK: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=1988 Rory

No prob yeah its 5.40am here and im ready to finally get a couple hours sleep .. if you truly want to beat your COP SECURITY competition see if you can find this in the UK .. http://www.active-tek.com/jun/HtmlPro/product1-1.htm Ask about the version with the CDRW. Here is a PDF on the CDRW version from another rep in the US: http://www.bahamassecurity.com/uploads/tm4cd.pdf The Model number is that of the US Rep so ignore it, it is made by the company above called ActiveTek. Main Features: MPEG-4 USB CDRW 4-ch Audio VGA Output Rory

This seems to be a big seller over there for a low end DVR among a couple UK installers on this forum. http://www.copsecurity.co.uk/sec/spec/spec.php?product=15-VP04-CDRW Personally I wouldnt touch it without a test and checking the network software out. I dont know the brand myself, who makes it, if COP doesnt, but COP USA on this side of the world sells extremely "cheap" products. Rory

Im not in the UK so I cant say 100%, but I doubt there is any legal issues related to using CCTV to record the actions of staff, partcularly since it is a private business, and not a public area. As for standalones available in your area, the other UK guys would be better at answering that. GE has some great stand alones, though they re-label them under NORBAIN in the UK at crazy prices as far as I can tell. If you can buy them as GE then it would be good. But stil the price will be too high for most clients such as retail stores or home users. Dedicated Micros is a well known UK stand alone also, though from personal use of both the DM and the GE DVRs, it is not quite on par with the GE DVRs, but .. if you do get a good deal on the DM, it is still a great product, and considered a high end DVR. Baxall (i think that is it) also had some great products last time i checked, and they are also located in the UK. If they are technical or have some IT staff, then give them the option of a PC based DVR, otherwise choose a stable stand alone that does lock up and isnt that expensive. On the US side, we have had some good reviews on the ActiveTek DVR, something you should be able to find over there, if you want the dead cheapest stand alones, AvTech is the brand you want, ive had good luck with them here. Check the DVR forum here for reviews on different stand alones. Rory

here its mostly theft ..... or murder .. We have had approx 1 stabbing a day from jan-april (reported that is). and quite a few of them were high school kids who died. 3 reported on the weekend gone alone. We get more stabbings here than gun shots here, hence the machete in my posts. I dont walk outside without it, if I remember.

Exactly. If you’re really serious about catching someone “in the act.â€

Hmmmm, glass, hmmm -
Well its not as good as MPEG4 for remote viewing .. what does the DM use? I have used them in the past where other installers put them in, they just were not quite as good as the kalatel DVRs, as far as ease of use, image speed and features. They did have a couple features that GE didnt have, but was not a considerable difference. In fact. the Miami Distributors are selling DM down here to the companies here who ask for a high end DVR. They dont know much about DVRs so they call me to get them port forwarded etc., thats when I get to use them If I was in the Uk I would probably sell them, or even Baxall. But US side the GE is worth the price for a machine type DVR. It uses Nucleus which is a more stable OS than what DM uses, much stronger also. It is used in cell phones and more often, medical equipment. Also, for DM units I have only ever used the DM Sprite, the 6 channel IP DVR, and the 4 channel DVR (which I think was the DM 4)... For recording Wavelet is higher quality than MPEG4 though, thats why I use MPEG4 for remote and Wavelet for recording. Yeah I read the datasheet they say you need at least the DVMRe-CT for the RAID, they start at 80GB also. GEs motion detection is great, actually better than the PC ones Ive used, simple plug and play actually, no real need to do much set up except the zones like trees etc. If you want the features the PC is great, but it sounds like you know you need the stand alone ..i sell both and I know where you are coming from. I have clients I would never install a PC system in, no matter how many features it has. With GE for RAID they have the DVMRe-CT or the DVMRe-PRO, the PRO is approx $1000 more than the CT, only additional feature is it has supposedly 120pps, in a mode they call the Turbo Mode. I dont think most people will need this model, or want to pay for it, the CT is fine and we have used them alot. We have it in our alarm monitoring station also. Though except for not having RAID connection, the StoreSafe PRO or StoreSafe is really all we sell now in the GE line, as they are much cheaper. They have a Built in CDR but we never use that. If you need built in storage then you would want the DVMRE CT or PRO as they go up to 1.2TB. Also, you can also just use RAID incase GE quoted you their DVSe Digital Storage Device which does cost a fortune. The DVMRe CT or PRO also has a firewire port for archiving so actually you can use any Firewire device. It uses the SCSI port for the RAID or DVSe. Also, if you are comfortable with the DM, then dont switch, stay with what you know. If it is a considerable difference in price, then its worth at least looking at. I can email you a couple demos to look at for remote video if you like. You can also cusomize the GUI for the kalatel DVRs using a developers ActiveX Control, for developers and dealers only. Best of both worlds would be cameras looped from a stand alone, into a PC system ... if one could afford both Rory
