I forgot to mention, if in doubt get your hands on a BW bullet and call it a day At my place, i have BW only bullets in the dark areas. 0.1lux regular BW Bullet in medium dark area, where it is too dark for color. And an Exview BW Bullet in the darkest area .. i can always add external IR or Some motion lights when i get some dollars, but so far they both are working well in the low lighting. Then I have 2 color bullets in the areas with alot of light, so they work day and night, and all but 1 of the cameras, are the cheapest on the market! Oh yeah, and like Bryan said, you may want to check your connections, then the wire. You can get BNC Twist ons for RG6U also, just a pain in the butt to put them on properly. Id rerun with RG59 if you can. If the distance isnot too far, and you are not sure about connectors, you can buy premade cable with the connectors already on, its similar to RCA/Telco wire. I have done 30 or so feet with telco 24AWG for a color bullet with no issues, I normally wouldnt do that for anyone besides myself though. Make sure the power supply is the right one, and you are getting correct Volts at the camera end. The BNC to Fconnector connectors may be your issue. If you get some twist on BNCs for RG6, you have to do it the right way or you wont get a good image, its done totally different from how you do regular coax connectors. Rory

Its not a true day night camera so unlikely it has an IR Cut Filter, hence the washed out colors in the day. If it is very dark in the area at night, it is going to push itself as it doesnt have much Infrared at all. They claim 40' on that site but in an open area You are probably lucky to get 15' or so, and then that will still depend on whether it has anything to reflect the IR off of. I would start by lowering it to start with, 20' is very high unless you have more expensive long range IR.

DVR Motion Detection Tripped by Camera Noise
rory replied to AVCONSULTING's topic in General Digital Discussion
best would be an alarm beam, someone crosses it then it starts recording ... for outdoors, or an alarm motion detector, for indoors ...but yeah the xf camera alarm output is also good .. better than the dvrs motion .. -
just me, malboros and diet pepsi ... too much rum last night!!

he he .. my camera was cheaper .. a darn tree is blocking it though

The dealer pricing on the DM is approx $1000 more than the equivelant in the GE DVRs. GE would be cheaper as its made in the good ole US of A Your DM rep may get a better deal than others though and is probably passing that onto you, which is always good
-
by the way, i got some PCs from herm, they came down here quick and some really great looking machines, plus i got 2 iview cards from him, will post next week once we have hooked them up, so far so good. If you need some iviews contact him for sure, he's the man! Rory

Ive used both the GE and the DM and being in the US I would go the GE route over the DM, better product, features, and pricing is also better from GE. Remember DM is a Uk product so I imagine that is why it cost so much more on the US side. If you need more info, list what features you need and we can go from there. Rory

HE he he .. thanks guys, yeah I wouldnt mind, but if anything, money should go to the forum for bandwidth and hosting. If it wasnt for Larry's idea we wont be here now, and meeting people from all over the globe, as well as learning new things. Dont forget our insane mod, takes alot of time out of his busy day and nights to come here and keep it clean., though we have some very well mannered members, which means we got a great forum. There are quite a few others that contribute alot on this forum also There are so many from so many places I wont name names right now .. I have some great ideas for some other things for the future, and when that time comes around ill help Larry with some advertising also. Just in the middle of working on a new web site application that is taking some time ... alot of time .. Rory

see them around, their cheaper DVRs are the AvTech DVRs from the looks of them. Seems they sell OEM products, like Hunt and Provideo does. Rory

Just Released: StoreSafe-2 Pro units use a unique new compression algorithm that is a hybrid of Wavelet and JPEG2000 that GE refers to as WaveJet compression. The distinct advantage to the WaveJet Compression is that there is approximately a 2:1 increase in HDD space or storage capacity. WaveReader 4.0B is required to connect to these over the WAN/LAN. StoreSafe Pro-2 Bulletin: http://www.ge-consultantlink.com/Docs/storesafepro2_bulletin.pdf StoreSafe Pro-2 DataSheet: http://www.ge-consultantlink.com/Docs/storesafepro2_prd.pdf Should you get the new StoreSafe just yet? "Frequently asked questions about StoreSafe Pro II ----------------------------------------------------------- Q: What is the biggest difference between StoreSafe Pro and the new StoreSafe Pro II? A: StoreSafe Pro II has a new compression that has lowered the recorded file size. This will allow you to triple the amount of video stored on the hard drive. The new file sizes are Standard-4.0KB, Medium-8.5KB and High-18.5KB. In comparison, the StoreSafe Pro file sizes are Standard-12.5KB, Medium-20KB and High-27.5KB. ----------------------------------------------------------- Q: Can I just flash upgrade my StoreSafe Pro to make it a StoreSafe Pro II? A: No, because GE has changed the recorder's internal hardware. ----------------------------------------------------------- Q: Is the frame rate still 60 pictures per second? A: Yes, the StoreSafe Pro II will record at 60 pps. ----------------------------------------------------------- Q: I use the one button CD record frequently. Will this function operate with the new StoreSafe Pro II as well as the original StoreSafe Pro? A: Yes, the StoreSafe Pro II will work as well or better. Since the file size is smaller you will be able to get more video on the CD. ----------------------------------------------------------- Q: I was doing a search and could not find the thumbnail search. Where is it? A: The StoreSafe Pro II does not support thumbnail search is not supported. It will be added in a later phase. ----------------------------------------------------------- Q: StoreSafe Pro gave me the ability to change the quality settings per camera. Does StoreSafe Pro II? A: No, StoreSafe Pro II's quality setting is global. ----------------------------------------------------------- Q: I have a StoreSafe. Will I be able to connect to the new StoreSafe Pro II using WaveReader software? A: You will need to upgrade your WaveReader software to version 4.0. ----------------------------------------------------------- Q: I have just installed a new StoreSafe Pro II on the network. I can connect using WaveReader but I do not see any video-just a black screen. Why? A: You will need to upgrade your WaveReader software to version 4.0. ----------------------------------------------------------- Q: Any other feature changes in WaveReader 4.0? A: Yes. GE has added the ability to download text without downloading the video, print text when a picture is printed, and change the connection listen port. ----------------------------------------------------------- Q: Will WaveWatch software work with the new StoreSafe Pro II? A: Yes, WaveWatch will work with the StoreSafe Pro II. There is no problem mixing any products in GE's DVMRe family with StoreSafe Pro II. WaveWatch will be able to connect to all. ----------------------------------------------------------- Q: Will I need a new version of WaveWatch to connect to the StoreSafe Pro II? A: There is a new version of WaveWatch (4.0) that works with the StoreSafe Pro II, but the older version will work also. ----------------------------------------------------------- Q: I am using SplitWave. Will it work with the new StoreSafe Pro II? A: No, not at this time. ----------------------------------------------------------- Q: I am trying to connect to the new StoreSafe Pro II using Multisite. I can connect, but why can't I see any video? A: Multisite is not supported on StoreSafe Pro II. This will be added in a later phase. ----------------------------------------------------------- Q: Will QuickWave work with the StoreSafe Pro II? A: Yes, QuickWave will work with the StoreSafe line, including the StoreSafe Pro II. Older versions of QuickWave will not play the video from a new StoreSafe Pro II. ----------------------------------------------------------- Q: I noticed when I save a video file it has a .20d file extension. Is that correct? A: Yes, the StoreSafe Pro II's new compression method saves your video file as a .20d file. Make sure when you go to open a file in WaveReader you select the correct file extention for the version of recorder you are using. ----------------------------------------------------------- Q: I occasionally use WaveBrowser to connect to my units. Will this still work with the StoreSafe Pro II? A: Yes, WaveBrowser will work with the StoreSafe Pro II just as it currently does with other StoreSafe products. It should be even better-since the file sizes are smaller, you will see faster updates."

Help the Newb! GeoVision 800 or wait for h.264 cards?
rory replied to 2noids's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
H.264/MPEG-4 AVC From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. (Redirected from H.264) H.264, or MPEG-4 Part 10, is a high compression digital video codec standard written by the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) together with the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) as the product of a collective partnership effort known as the Joint Video Team (JVT). The ITU-T H.264 standard and the ISO/IEC MPEG-4 Part 10 standard (formally, ISO/IEC 14496-10) are technically identical, and the technology is also known as AVC, for Advanced Video Coding. The final drafting work on the first version of the standard was completed in May of 2003. H.264 is a name related to the ITU-T line of H.26x video standards, while AVC relates to the ISO/IEC MPEG side of the partnership project that completed the work on the standard, after earlier development done in the ITU-T as a project called H.26L. It is usual to call the standard as H.264/AVC (or AVC/H.264 or H.264/MPEG-4 AVC or MPEG-4/H.264 AVC) to emphasize the common heritage. The name H.26L, harkening back to its ITU-T history, is far less common, but still used. Occasionally, it has also been referred to as "the JVT codec", in reference to the JVT organization that developed it. (Such partnership and multiple naming is not unprecedented, as the video codec standard known as MPEG-2 also arose from a partnership between MPEG and the ITU-T, and MPEG-2 video is also known in the ITU-T community as H.262.) The intent of H.264/AVC project has been to create a standard that would be capable of providing good video quality at bit rates that are substantially lower (e.g., half or less) than what previous standards would need (e.g., relative to MPEG-2, H.263, or MPEG-4 Part 2), and to do so without so much of an increase in complexity as to make the design impractical (expensive) to implement. An additional goal was to do this in a flexible way that would allow the standard to be applied to a very wide variety of applications (e.g., for both low and high bit rates, and low and high resolution video) and to work well on a very wide variety of networks and systems (e.g., for broadcast, DVD storage, RTP/IP packet networks, and ITU-T multimedia telephony systems). The JVT recently completed the development of some extensions to the original standard that are known as the Fidelity Range Extensions (FRExt). These extensions support higher-fidelity video coding by supporting increased sample accuracy (including 10-bit and 12-bit coding) and higher-resolution color information (including sampling structures known as YUV 4:2:2 and YUV 4:4:4). Several other features are also included in the Fidelity Range Extensions project (such as adaptive switching between 4×4 and 8×8 integer transforms, encoder-specified perceptual-based quantization weighting matrices, efficient inter-picture lossless coding, support of additional color spaces, and a residual color transform). The design work on the Fidelity Range Extensions was completed in July of 2004, and the drafting was finished in September of 2004. Since the completion of the original version of the standard in May of 2003, the JVT has also done one round of "corrigendum" errata corrections, and an additional round of such corrigendum work was recently completed and approved in the ITU-T and will soon also be finished in MPEG. -

rory replied to G22's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Yep .. dont know how it works but it is software related ...but yeah it is being recorded on the server in Wavelet, and then I can still choose which method I want to use to stream the video ...rememeber, its a server running on the PC DVR, it just takes the video off the card, the software does alot of the work also. -
just reload, i think its actually a client side Internet Explorer issue, happens with alot of them. Its a 2.0 Ghz Celleron, 256DDR, 30GB HDD, LOLL, 3 Years old, was a give away ... Still records near real time though ...

thanks man try the windows demo software download. small installation, custom software, no browser required: http://www.bahamassecurity.com/uploads/Xtreme-iviewDVR.zip Otherwise, the browser demo requires Internet Explorer, activeX be turned on to prompt, and Popup Blockers turned off at least for the browser demo. Or still want the browser, just make sure its IE and ActiveX settings are on Prompt, this is the page without a pop up: http://xtreme1.gotdns.com/demo1.htm Rory
