With all the issues on this forum regarding GEO and the Dongles, I would never buy one, sorry, just cant take the chance, too hard to get parts and other things down here. Also the fact that my clients can go on Ebay and buy it at "rock bottom" prices wont work either. -

Swapping Kalatel Safestore pro CD-RW with DVD+R
rory replied to andyr's topic in Digital Video Recorders
No, it requires a 5400rpm, or at least thats what they said, well actually they said it would work best with a 5400, the slower the better. Remember it is not Linux and not Windows, it is the Nulceous RTOS used in Cellphones etc, not even designed to be used with HDDs, thats why you can install a HDD and dont have to partition or format it, the part that puzzles me now is maybe they partition a small area of it for the HTTP server? But leave the rest unpartitioned .. or maybe they use the partition now, if it exists. They didnt make that clear last time i talked to them. I dont like their browser based software anyway, so thats why It hasnt come up. Plus i made my own browser software for them anyway, a long time before they made theirs. -
Who makes this 8ch dvr that records @ 240fps
rory replied to trainman's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I can get you a much better system for alot less, even at Bahamian Retail Prices. Search the forum and ask around, there are alot of DVR options but only a few really cut it. Also, dont just look at the FPS, PPS, or IPS, as this does not determin whether it is any good or not. Rory -
we are not on her list What, get rid of guns totally .. darn, dont think that will happen. If you get rid of the guns, what about the police, can they still carry guns? If not, what about the criminals running around with machets decapitaing people down here, or knives ...rocks, bottles, etc .. anywayz, they cant stop the illegal immigrants nor the drug trafficking .. doubt they can do anything about illegal guns .. by the way, all guns are basically illegal down here anyway ..

whats IANSA? I got my machete, my iron bars, and i dont stick around anywhere for long ... all can do ... wouldnt mind a bullet proof vest one day !
-
no good, all the crooks down here have guns, knives and machetes .. ive been robbed gunpoint maybe 10 times (once i even punched the guy with the gun he got confused and ran off! LOL), by knife once (kicked the guys butt and dragged him into the police station - he robbed me right outside the police station!!), and once with home made axes (they got caught 2 days later and went to prison for 2 years), and ofcourse ganged a couple times but fought way out of it, and kidnapped twice (was let go one time, jumped out of the moving vehicle the second time). And that wasnt recent, crime has got even worse in the city now. Home invasions and random stabbings and shootings on the public streets have increased this year. Like i said though, this is Nassau, the outislands are crime free, generally.

Sanyo used to have a 2Mpx HDD camera, but I think its discontinued.

Thats why you install a good quality camera at an entrance area, to get their faces, etc, so with the general view camera you can see who is who, and then match them up with the entrance camera. Thats also why color is better than black and white sometimes. We have Color cams at the entrances and BW in a nightclub at the bars, etc. They have matched the crooks up several times and sent them to jail. But yes, a nice 5meg camera, would be too cool

there are actually hundreds and probably thousands ... i just picked the ones that looked interesting ... www.asmag.com has a pretty full list. .. rory

this is old but: Accessing disk space beyond 137GB requires two working criteria: chipset BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) program and operating system that support 48-bit LBA. For Windows 2000, it must be the version with Service Pack 3 (SP-3) or higher. For Windows XP, it must be SP-1 (those that were released in Aug 2002). For Linux, its kernel version has to be 2.4.16 or higher. http://www.dealtime.com/xPR-Seagate_Barracuda_7200_7_Plus_160_GB_ST3160023A~RD-136859979396

not yet, im going to email them tomorrow. They never had the software solution before but now they do, so ill see what I can find out. Theyve had teh camera out for at least a year now, just no DVR would support it .. until now. They were apparently supposed to have been working with March Networks on something, now looking at their hardware solutions, it looks similar to the March Network stuff: note the wall mount recorder. There are no ways to build a very good Day Night with Infrared syterm for $150-200 .. . Your alternative is looking at a Bullet camera with Infrared such as the Kt&C or the Provideo, both have mechanical IR cut Filters, meaning True Day Night, the provideo is more and has more LEDs, either way you can add external IRs such as those from Extreme CCTV like the UF100, though its not cheap, it will work. The cheaper OEM IR Bulbs normally are just that, cheap, they can work but mostly they are Spot Bulbs, where as the Extreme stuff you can order them with wide bulbs, and invisible range. However, for the invisible range (940nm +) you would need to seek a professional camera like some from the Sanyo, GE, etc, that supports up to 940-1100nm Infrared Spectrum Range - the PDF data sheets will say whether they do or not - but once again, they are not cheap. if you dont need invisible or have the budget for the Extreme stuff, then just a bullet camera with IR and some external 840nm IRs. You can also save money if using just a BW Bullet camera, the 840nm works with most BW bullet cameras. Rory

You can get a pretty good (actually very good) image off a Flat Panel Tv these days also, if they cant spend for the monitor. We use more TVs now than anything, with the shipping and customs costs of the CCTV monitors. I can get a 13" TV here for $99 for the 4 channels its perfect, or the Flat Panels for $200-250, otherwise the monitors will sell locally for around $500-600 for a 15" or $800-1000 for a 21" ..!! Ofcourse in the US its a different story ...its cheaper .. Id say look at the Ganz, Sanyo, GE or Bosch ... there are others but these are what I know ..if you want to point it at the door, a wide dynamic like the Ganz, Pano, Sany or Bosch, the Ge one isnt that great from experience but you could try it if you wanted. Otherwise Dome cameras indoor, the ganz has a great priced High Res AI with VF lens 3-9mm. The Sanyo I know for sure has some good backfocus in some of its cameras, which can get you away from the Wide Dynamic and save some money; they have multi zone and centered back focus. Short of that make sure get a color camera that has an IR cut Filter in it, even some OEM cheap cameras have this. If they stil want BW then if they have money, the GE EXview is not expensive, or the Sanyo BW low Light also, if they dont have money then look at the Provideo BW CVC-325WPS Bullet camera, it has lasted me 4 years on several jobs even on the ocean. Its the BW camera in my i-view demo. Alot of OEM BW cameras will work also, its just trial and error finding one that is really good. Ive used a cheaper version of the Provideo BW Bullet and got bad quality off it, so thats why I only sell this version as a BW Bullet alternative. Ive also used an OEM Exview BW cam from a distributor in Miami, saw in very low light but quality is not great overall. Price was very low though, but I chose to stick to the Provideo CVC-325 for overall quality and price. There can be a tradeoff for what they want to achieve. From the same Miami Distributor I have their cheapest Color bullet on my demo also, and it looks great for the price, daytime at least, it has to have an IR Cut Filter to produce the true colors it does. Also, I have had very good luck with the GE KTC-840CE Box Color Exview Camera, with Fujinon Lenses, indoors and outdoors. If you need images let me know. Ive also seen the Toshiba in action and they seem to work as well as the Sanyos, they looked very good. Rory

Hi Any DVR you buy, you are stuck with the software that comes with it, unless you are going to write your own, but that could take some time ... With a PC based you have much more flexebility though, more features, otherwise if you want plug and play and dont need all the features, then there are the stand alone RTOS DVRs. In the world of Stand Alones, there are the good, the bad, and the ugly, take a look around here first before making any desicions ..
