Hmmm, ive used the Verifact A Microphones with the Kalatel DVRs and its fine. Not crisp stereo like Skype (LOL) but good enough to hear everything within 15' from the mic. Not sure if I understand, you want to hear a pin drop but dont want to hear everything? A PC will obviously give you better quality, as there are more hard ware and software factors involved, compared to the cell phone type Operating System on the Kalatel ... Like Scott said, you will need to spend for something more than just the louroe .. amplifiers, equalisers, etc ...a PC DVR can generally give you more inputs also ... so if its audio that you are looking for, then the PC would be a way to go. Why not do this: Tell them if they want the features and audio capabilities of a stereo system, then they will need a seperate PC for that, loop out from the Kalatel to the PC. That way you have best of both worlds, the Plug Play and Forget machine that will never crash or give you the MS Send Error ...and the PC with all the features on the moon and mars .. There are some audio only professional recording systems out there also, which will be much better than any DVR audio .. you can simply use a seperate PC for the audio if they want to get tricky ... Might be best to check with a local audio/dj specialist on this .. Rory

IR Extenders for Remote Control for DVR Card
rory replied to rory's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Yeah, no wireless. the entire house is concrete as is, and the DVR is on the 3rd floor. They can run wire now as they are still building and the walls are open. ill check these links, thanks Rory -
Im sure you can take the LEDs off, they probably clip on or screw on, if not, a little saw will do a fine job

I know how to do DHCP, just Cable is 99.9% the ISP down here so Im used to that, no need to dial anything, its always on., Its regular DSL, nothing special, DSL modem with LAN Cable to LAN card in the main PC. Im thinking ..hmm, im probably going to just turn it over to a local PC store as they have more time to think about it, the client isnt going to pay much so .. Ill let you know thanks for the replies though .. Rory

How would the other user connect though? As currently they click on the dial up thing, and they connect like that. thanks rory

Remote playback with I-View
rory replied to cctvfan's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Are you using all the latest software? If you want, can set up a temporary user name and pass so I can get in and check it out? Rory -
YEah well the system recording speed normally does not effect the network transmission speed though ofcourse the system itself can, it really depends on the DVR. Wavelet will be slow, requires 384 up at least (largest images). Mpeg4 can use much less and be much faster, quality wont be as high as 100% Wavelet though, but more suitable for remote video, I get Real time transmission with MPEG4 on 384 up and down systems. Basically What DVR and Compression are you using? How many cameras? If it is wavelet then no, stay away from DSL with Wavelet. DSL normally when they have 384 speeds, their uploads are normally much less like 128, whereas cable is the same both ways. ADSL is different and more suitable for remote video. Are you sure about that upload speed? The ISP could be pulling your leg .. do you have DSL or ADSL??

Remote playback with I-View
rory replied to cctvfan's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Try this, when you click the connect button, and it pops up, then you goto Select the drop down for Playback, make sure the SELECT cameras box on the right is checked. So when you search it asks you to select all cameras, or you can check individual camera boxes. In the software version I wrote it will ask you by default, but I dont have the playback features as i designed it for live view only, though it will play back that time frame. -
cool, can i get a choc chip, not too kean on da oatmeal ones... .

One thing you could do is use a electric gang box camera, or make your own. Just be sure to seal it up good as they are not made for outdoors. Speco (pro video) and GE has some. If you want to make your own, get a mini camera with a pin hole lens, drill a hole and create a mount for the camera with a small piece of wood, attach the camera to that and then close it, seal it all up with caulking (after adjusting it) and your good to go. Very discreet.

Remote playback with I-View

This is what I have been conveying to him I need my disk analysis and search by motion, i dont need object search or other fancy stuff ... they really gotta work on the search .. i had started to write something which would actually do it, basically a second server running on the DVR PC, it shares that video directory, and the client software maps out the files there using the dates/names. etc. .. Id rather leave that to them though as it will take a long time to get that finished .. Plus they already have the code to connect to the DVR server and map the drive, it cant be that hard to ad in there ..? -

Thats how the Iview Remote Configuration Software is, its like PCAnywhere, but their own version, and its in 256 colors only ... its only for doing configuration of the PC/DVR. Nice thing is, you can download and install their software on any PC and still use this, whether you have a card or not!

Analogue or Digital? Designing a PC based CCTV / DVR
rory replied to thewatcher's topic in General Digital Discussion
DVR will be cheaper than IP based, and you will generally get better software. IP software is still limited to a certain point, the best I have used is LuXRiot but its not cheap. Basically if you are looking to save money, IP is out of the question. Rory -
Swapping Kalatel Safestore pro CD-RW with DVD+R
rory replied to andyr's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Not really, the DVD thing. All PCs have CDs, but not all have DVDs. Also, both ways would use the same software to play the video, it is not regular video files, it is special files that require the GE software to play back. Ghosting the drive, no doubt that would work. Its not Fat32 or similar, its not Linux, they use Nucleus, not sure what they do to the drives now though. Rory -
The order did come by the way, just took 3 weeks.

Well they do need some customer service training. We dealt with them once and was not impressed. I imagine they are some large company like ADI who also treats you like crap.
