Need help/advice setting up system for convenience store
rory replied to mallik's topic in System Design
Like Baywatch said. Try some Motion Sensor Lights, we have used them in several stores here where the owners didnt want to leave the lights on, they work well. Just make sure dont point the lights at any of the cameras or it will blind the view when they come on. The best picture would be a Traditional Box camera, with a full lens such as a Fujinon, Tamron, or Computar. Look at GE KTC-840CE as its exview so works well at night also under low lighting, or really any camera from the brands such as Sanyo, Bosch, etc. If you cant spend that much then you could look at the OEM brands that run around 1/2 the price though they are normally 1/2 the quality also. With these cameras you will require some setup such as focus and back focus, and a couple dip switch settings. Otherwise a color Bullet camera would be the cheapest and easiest way out. No setup, just plug and play. Dont bother with a day night bullet or one with IR, just install the motion sensor lights. You could also use a dome though sometimes they require focusing. Domes in the brand names are much more expensive than the Box cameras. DVRs, how many cameras makes the difference, as well as whether you want a PC based full of features, or a stand alone, and whether you want a full featured brand name stand alone, or a simple budget one. Where you are located also makes a difference, UK, USA, etc. Seen as you are in CA, it would be a good idea to purchase from a local dealer, that way you have local tech support on the products, and a local warranty. plus you are helping out your local economy. You can still install it yourself. Rory -
Ive never used it, what is it like? I Kept seeing it on the $200 PCs at tigerdirect.com.

Same options, just easier to do with Compass, like Receiver Type, Full English Words, Keypad Program Lockout etc .. Yeah id like to get my hands on that null modem, but it doesnt work on the 10's though which are the large amount down here, except i only ever do the 50s now anyway if I do alarms ... for the 50s and 128s for sure .. does it work on the 20Ps?
-
nahh ... takes to long ... I used to hate when on a job for the local monitoring co I always had to wait for them to upload .. i had like 20 other jobs to goto .. funny thing is none of their current staff even know how to properly program the panels with the keypad only now, as they have spoilt them with compass ... I can still program the 10s, 20s, and 30s with a fixed KP, the 10s and 20s I can program any wireless blind, the 50 and 128 I can do no sweat with the full english, when they uplaod and make changes they always mess up my programming darnit! Arghhhh ... hey all they service/install is the Ademco Panels ...i can see if they did others as well ... but .. oh well, back to CCTV .. i dont do much alarms anymore, but its like riding a bike or taking a leak ..
-
Yeah, like the hidden stuff Ademco doesnt put in their manuals ?? Oh yeah, but never ask the distributor about that as most of the time they wont really know, unless they are a specific distributor for a particular product, not the guys in miami that push thousands of brands ...

If I cant get it to work, I send it back. I gave up calling tech support a long time ago ..

Comart Cards, Avermedia, Digiflower: All have SDKs, and anyone can write surveillance server software for them. Not sure which ones are showing up on Ebay, could be a bit of both or all of them. As far as I know GEO doesnt make their cards, just the software. Once you get an activeX for the board basically you can write network software for it easily - its really not you writing the code, just changing the GUI, as you have to use what commands are in the activeX. On the other hand, server software (the DVR end) requires an SDK/API as you need to have total control over the DVR. Not knowing what cards GEO uses, perhaps they use the same cards as others, and other people are writing their own software and calling it GEO, or maybe cracking GEOs Dongles? The Dongles is their way to protect their software, as they dont make any money off the hardware. Whereas with Iview, they make the cards so they make money of the hardware, hence the software is free. Just to make it clear, I only designed a custom GUI for the Network software using the browser based ActiveX, so the client still requires the Iview surveillance server software on the actual DVR end Rory

probably just a web cam.

i just never came across one PC that it was not 10x better than 98 on ... I have it on a 600Mhz Laptop which is 3 times faster than my 2.4Ghz with XP on it. But like i said, I never leave any OS to default, as default windows, any windows OS in defaul settings, is crap and slow ... Anyway, you were trying to use ME/98 for a DVR???

Dont know if you noticed, but the majority of those are the same exact cards ... at least the 4 channel green boards.

I agree, the dealer forum is rarely used, the majority if not close to all the valuable posts, are outside of that forum. Basically, it is used for Dealers to post links, info and pricing on distributer -> dealer related issues. Obviously if that was available to the general public the dealers would not have any business

I havent seen any Twist ons down here yet that have been done correctly either, in fact im cleaning up a job tomorrow where they used twist ons on RG6U and RG59 mixed ... all loose with ground hanging all out and basically the woirst video ive seen yet ,, all camera connections were left dangling and they are all coroded as they were all outside exposed to the salt air .. its going to be fun!! Ill take some pictures of the before and after, well the before will amaze you. I quoted another job in somewhat the same prediciment, they had some of those telco type camera systems installed originally, and then had their inhouse staff hook up some bullet cameras with a Hisharp DVR, using the same wire and basically its all spliced into coax at the DVR end and a big power amplifier like found with radio systems, runs are 100 feet or so on some, and basically all cameras are bright bright bright, with ground loops and a million other issues .. major rewire and reconnections ... i need to take a shot of that if they decide to spend the money this time around, and I was only charging $400 to do the whole thing as I couldnt stand seeing it left like that!

I need to put my crimper to work though, so I may buy a hundred of so of the crimp ons anyway from miami, that way I can keep the other competition down here out of the loop .. he he he ..
-
Its an IP camera?

The problem is that most people installing BNCs dont know how to put them on properly. When done properly, it is just as good as a Crimp on. But if it makes you feel better .. then thats all that matters Ofcourse I have encountered many cheap BNC twistons I have had to change for the good ones I use, also, I have encountered many crimp ons that came off from improper installation also, its all about who the installer is. And I can swing from the tiwstons, Ive never been able to take it back off, only way is to cut the cable. Crimp on BNCs are impossible to find down here, so using Twist ons is pretty much the most feasable.

so what DO you use? Crimp ons are overated and no better than Twistons. im doing fiber for a $70K job next month ..
