  2. Ive never had any issues with Siamese Cable. Also, there is normally some fluffy stuff in the siamese cable so you can pull it to strip the cable back ..

Whats the PC specs? check the System icon in the Control Panel. Im using a 2.0 Ghz Celleron with 256MB DDR with no issues. I also have a 128MD DDR Radeon Card for display, though that doesnt effect the recording. Ofcourse I dont have 16 cameras and I have the 1 x 8 channel 120fps card which gives me real time on the couple cameras I do have. Which 4 channel cards do you have? Also, how is your recording set up, etc? Rory
  4. only buy from Ebay if the user has an actual security store/online store, not just an ebay listing, otherwise, they may be pulling your leg on what the DVR/Gear can actually do. Research the product, if it has no name, forget it.

  14. Somehow I dont think audio is video Seriously though, no, the audio would be totally seperate from the video. Actually, Skype has APIs so you can integrate it into your own apps or hardware. I have tried it already and its great, for streaming video from a DVR would be remarkable, now for recording, thats another thing, but ill check it out over the next few days when I get more time to play with the API. Whether the technology would be worth using in a DVR app is unknown at this time, but its great technology none the less .. Rory

    Crappy CCTV system

GEOvision a safe option? From the posts on this forum, i wouldnt touch it with a 10 foot pole! Besides the fact that all Geovision is, is software, they dont make their cards, and ugly software at that. It could control the Space Shuttle but if it looks like crap and gives all kinds of setup problems, etc, why would anyone sell it. Just the fact that you need to use a Dongle is the #1 reason I would never use it. Cant compare a respectable company like IBM to a small little company like GEOvision.

    Another random thought

for me, i gots to have bars on the windows ... at least down here. But in the outislands like Long Island Bahamas. there is no crime though, and you can leave your windows, doors, anything, open. Heck they are all family. Sounds nice. I'm old enough to remember a time when locking the door was an after-thought and you could leave the top down on your convertible car in public places. Now I lock everything up by muscle-memory – don’t even think about it. I don’t mean to portray that things are out of control where I live, but all sides of my house are exposed to any passerby and having an effective CCTV system is piece of mind. For example, without a CCTV system in the backyard, I wouldn’t leave my chipper there and would probably always lock the sliding door when I take a shower. Having a CCTV system relieves most of the constant low-level paranoia I have acquired from various experiences over the years. But that’s just me. I don’t want to be anyone’s victim and am technically inclined, so installing a CCTV system is a natural defense. My motto is “Plan for the worse, but hope for the best.â€
