  1. Figure he was maybe drunk walking back from a bar and woke up not even remembering what he did . see that big smile on his face ...
  2. Not much you can do with that video, IR glare on face when it would have been a good shot, and its low res and blocked. If the guy is known surely the cops can use this image though, but then again, for a $50 camera they probably dont care. Not much can do with the video either, I tried all kinds of filters. 3. The green drive is a slow drive, even the blue is faster. Stay clear of the greens if you can help it, some DVRs like Geo have issues with them. Otherwise all current SATA drives are typically much faster than drives we were using just a few years ago. I actually had a problem with a green and used an old USB Sata drive which is much much slower and the problem went away so ... speed .. not SO important with some DVRs.
  4. 10 years and never had my bullets stolen .. but then I dont have crack heads walking past them, if they come in the yard they come to kill or break in ... but yes in the ghetto I use domes, not for fear of them being stolen though but for vandalism ... had only 1 bullet partially destroyed in the night club in 10 years also. Also I have 2 mini straights that at least one of them can twist off the security screws from most domes. BTW dont go too high, or you loose alot of the FOV, plus remember the cameras need to be cleaned. diff between domes and bullets? IMO as I use both. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=26891&p=164167#p164167

    Trouble Shooting

Ive seen it with florescent lighting on certain cameras, in some cases i changed the camera for another voltage and problem went away, eg. happened on a 24VAC camera, switched to 12VDC, issue went away. Some cheap 12VDC cameras it will happen anyway and nothing really to do. But it could also be some high voltage too close to your cat5, or some power cable issue.

    I am stumped.

did this for one budget job, they only wanted one camera for the cash area and to catch the customers at the counter, all concrete and ceiling too high to see the faces, so had to come down low in that existing plastic molding. It actually goes right to the bottom of the mold and the connection is behind that wood, then the thin camera cable goes back up to the camera since cant fit the connection in that mold without splice and tape - that was the perfect height to not have too much of the items on the shelves in the image since its a 3.6mm. Like I said also, this was a very budget install. .

    DVR Recommendations Needed

Also I had to reupload a couple hurricane videos as the previous encoding I did with AviDemux along with Youtube's conversion to FLV caused the final frame rate of the video to drop drastically. I only did that with a couple of the last ones I uploaded as I noticed it with them, especially the color video and I didnt edit all with AviDemux. So not sure if the rest are all exactly 7fps or not, hard to tell, they may actually have ended up being a little less. But I think its close enough. 30fps D1 is nice, but comes with a price most applications dont need. I even have a couple cameras set to 7fps CIF, such as a front door, and a small gate area which is only used to watch dogs eat.

Mosquito' It's not CCTV I know but....

Have you tried a cell phone jammer yet? Surely once they loose reception they would move somewhere else? Kids today cant live without a cell phone (future brain tumor cases).

    pss setup

just make sure the device is setup properly. Make sure it is set to a DVR, by default that field is IP camera. Also make sure you are not logged in too many times under the same user, check the user account is setup for multiuse, and lastly if you use the wrong password 3 times it will lock the account and either have to wait 30 minutes or restart the DVR.

Mosquito' It's not CCTV I know but....

Put it up to your computer mic, record it, then upload it to youtube .. will see if we can hear it I wonder if that would work on a dog? I have a client that has a dog that keeps going up the gate and she wants it to stay away, tried a motion with voice to tell it leave but that didnt seem to work, the dog likes the dog trainers voice ..

    Hurricane

The projected path for Irene has it coming directly over my beachfront apartment. They are saying it would be 125+ mph winds. This should get interesting ... 2 days left ! http://www.stormpulse.com/hurricane-irene-2011
  16. Yeah I just wish I had a decent camera, I hardly use regular cameras though. The batteries on them died right about daylight, and neither of the 2 I had could see anything at night. Besides I was so tired from being up all through the storm, i had to lay down and try to sleep, swamped my bed cause it was soooo hot ... anyway ... hey I left the wood on parts of the windows and my AC works even better now .. makes a huge difference, got so cold last night I had to turn it down and grab a blanket My UPS sucks, with my desktop and 22" LCD on it dies in minutes ... Instead I turned those off and used the netbook until the UPS died, as the cable internet still worked - the cable node battery lasted until that night then eventually died .. if I had a laptop with a longer battery and a better UPS i could have at least stayed on for alot longer ... next time then .. hurricane season isnt over yet!
  17. Dan is the UPS still on? If it is I want one of those Hope you get power soon. I know its hell without it. Do you have running water? Least that would help some. I know what you mean about the cameras, power went off for me right when I was going to upload some more video .. it sucked edit, this is what i captured in the early morning during the storm, the camera sucks for night though, so can barely see anything, plus the beach area was pitch dark anyway. Turn volume up high. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKy9DT7xtZA
  18. storm should be gone by now ... i see there is another storm off in the ocean to the right of NY TS Jose ... but its heading away
  19. I cant deal with the same hurricane in the same week ... im gone to sleep now .. hope you make it through okay and dont forget the video ps. they say its tropical storm irene now .. still need to kick it out already .. its been going on too long
  20. Its a cat1 on the far east side ... a cat1 is a cat3 to NY city .. would wipe it out For example I was on the west side of the hurricane, it was a cat3 on the far east side. Long Island will likely see the strongest winds in this case. eg, Jones beach.
  21. Cat 2 or 3 on some islands, we were far from the eye .. Storm started for us from early evening (actually winds started midday) with power off for 1 hour at 6pm then coming back on (some areas stayed off and are still off), then 3am it started full force could not go outside (I was installing a camera at 2am with branches flying over my head, trying to get a better shot). We got maybe 30mph sustained winds, 50-60mph gusts .. even still alot of trees were knocked down from the gusts, i had to machete my way out of my driveway, still have to squeeze under a fallen tree to get out, still alot of cleanup to do, and the heat doesnt make it any easier. Power was off from 5am-9pm for me and most of the island, but there is still 10% of the island without power - that also means no running water for those such as myself who only have a well - i basically tried to sleep that entire time but it was like being in a coma it was so hot. If the winds were stronger it would have been alot worse though, I underestimated what 20 hours of 20-40mph winds can do, in addition to the gusts. A couple of the other islands got wiped out though. I figure thats the reason the British chose this island as the capital, its surrounded by other islands and always dodges the bullet. I spent all friday raking the front yard ... took a day off on saturday LOL ... still piles of trees, branches, and leaves I have to figure out what to do with. videos listed here: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=26844&p=164275#p164275
  22. Going by NY CBS and the weather channel, the storm hasnt hit you guys yet? Although doesnt look like it will be much more than it is now. But still be careful, never know how these things go. Oh yeah say hello to Freeport, Wantagh, and Oceanside .. spent a few of my best years there .. hope you all come out unscathed.

    Power surge protection

APC Line-R Voltage Regulator - Used them for years and we have terrible power here. Alternatively you can find a UPS with built in AVR which is the same but with battery backup. I generally only use a Voltage Regulator with DVRs. Had some UPS that dont come back on after power outages, and that is a problem when its a CCTV system. Besides the power normally stays off here where I live for alot longer than the average consumer UPS can handle.
