http://www.rugged-cctv.com/digital.htm they claim they invented the embedded on chip DVR technology! If you read the entire long page, it is interesting though, I mean it is a great sales pitch Reminds me of those late night ads on TV. Oh yeah, I installed the remote software, its' OUCH', it has to connect to each camera individually, and manually, and every time you switch window views you have to reconnect cameras etc, in other words, dont bother!

Ok so checked out WebGate Inc, seems Bosch is using them for their Divar Series, almost the same exact Network Software, specs are same as the 60fps Webgate DVR. They also list Honeywell but I couldnt find any DVRs on Honeywells Site, and nothing on Ademco Video .. And, the one I was looking at before, Samsung Techwin, is also using their DVRs, they are using the 240fps unit. So, it turns out, not a bad DVR after all, especially if all those big names are using it. Will see what kind of price is on their 120 and 240fps DVR. By the way, they do Multi-Site over the internet also. Rory

Help with A DVR CARD -= KMC =-
rory replied to magicray's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
You're paying alot for the software such as the DVR system software. $800, Hmm, a high end stand alone DVR is more in the area of $2300 for 10 channels .. but then you are paying for the RTOS and the microcomputer hardware, design, and manufacturing..oh yeah, and the name I-view is not expensive though, and there are even cheaper ones. Just buy 2 4-channel cards and stack them, if you really want PC based. Yes, but time spent on programming the software for the hardware ..its a whole other world .. Im fed up paying $20 for 6 Budweisers, $4 a gallon of gas, and it sucks I had to pay $35K for my jeep cherokee XJ .... not to mention .. $7 for a bottle of Orange Juice, and $6 for a twist on BNC connector! Anyway, the book does not say GEO VISION ... they are having nothing but problems with it ..problems recording, software and XP issues, etc. Software sais version 6.0 ..is this a knock off or do they just not print the name on the book?? dont know if it is the same with GEO, but alot of PC DVRs require you to restart to recognise a new camera. -

Hmmm, First you have to decide, do you want hidden cameras, or cameras they can see? Never heard of "strategic vista", perhaps something like what is found at Sams Club or Costco, all in one monitor and VCR/DVR. You want to stay away from those. For hidden cameras, GE Kalatel has a decent line and they look professional. For Bullet cameras, Provideo (Speco) has one of the best lines, though there are many others. Provideo also has some decent Vandal Dome Cameras that arent too expensive. For the DVR, if you dont want to spend much, take a look at this unit: http://powertelecomm.com.hosting.domaindirect.com/product_r16000.htm I have a demo on my web site http://www.bahamassecurity.com Its a decent low priced budget DVR with 16 channels, Motion Detection, and hasnt locked up or crashed on me yet. You can search by Motion also. Remote software is not great, but works. Also its browser based with DDNS (no static IP required), or you can use the included client software. Need a price PM or email me, ill see what I can do. I like high end DVRs and am use to them, but for the price and what I need here, this one is perfect. Its alot less than other budget DVRs such as Everfocus, HiSharp, Provideo, which some of them also are found under different names all over the internet. All 3 of those cost more and lock up (crash) alot. Other than that I step right up to the GE Katatel DVRs, but they are very costly. Some others have had good experience with the Nuvico and Hunt DVRs which are better than the DVRs I previously mentioned, plus they cost more, but are less than the GE Kalatel DVRs. They have 8 or 10 channel versions available. These are all Stand Alone Embedded RTOS DVRs I have mentioned, linux RTOS or Nucleous RTOS, non Windows based. Otherwise a PC card would be cheaper and can have more features if you buy the right one, though you have the setup and maintenance issues associated with a PC. Hope this helps some. Rory -

Hi Jeremy Are you looking at maybe Hidden Cameras? Looks like you want at least 6 cameras? Which would mean something in the range of an 8+ channel DVR. A Stand Alone DVR would be easier to have in an application like this, just Plug and Play. What country are you located in? This will help better determine what is available for you. Lastly, do you have a min and max budget? Rory -
only for the part of CCTV where it is needed, like networking the DVR. Ofcourse running a PC business in the UK is probably alot easier than running one here, its either or, here. We have to import everything .. Plus there isnt enough time in my 20 hour day for CCTV now ... let alone researching the latest PC stuff, as i did in the past. I stay away from the local authority (government) here ... too much payoffs are required to get jobs with them ..

Well to start with ignore the 135' distance, especially if its going to be outdoors. I havent had experience with their products, but Infrared is Infrared. 60IR LEDs is not going to give you 135'. not even close, not outdoors, and lucky if you get 90' indoors with a Spot beam (narrow). What are you looking for in the camera, what do you want it to do? This one has a mechanical IR Cut Filter so it gives great day images as well as switches the IR on at night. Its considered a TRUE day night camera. I havent seen a bullet like this one yet from any other manufacturer: Ofcourse Speco OEMs it from the "actual" manufacturer, but they must buy it in large amounts as it is not found anywhere else: http://www.csi-speco.com/cart/products/productDetails.asp?prodID=690 Its around the same price. Though Speco is considered "mid range", as is Nuvico, at least in the DVR area. If you are looking for real Infrared Cameras, check out Extreme CCTV - www.ExtremeCCTV.com - they are not cheap but they work. Its all I sell when it comes to Infrared. I sell the IR bullets also, but just dont sell it as an IR camera as they dont perform like one. I may be biased after having experienced the Real Infrared Products, but I also have, and have used, the IR bullets. Just depends on the budget and what you really need. Rory

Speco, HiSharp, and Everfocus - 3 DVRs i wouldnt touch again... main reason being, they arent worth what they sell them for ...
-
how many channels, and whats your budget range?
-
So then you are in the PC business as well?
-
Even Provideo can compete on the local recording side, for quality. But not for stability or features. You really have to use a Kalatel DVR to appreciate the differences, which are pretty major. IR Remote is nice though.
-
Actually, The units were purchased from A1 Web Cams in Calif. www.a1webcams.com . Of course they claim to be the manufacture of the unit. They are nice people though. I thought the price was kind of high, I guess I was wrong. Cant say if the price is high or not as I havet tried that DVR yet, but the specs look good, better than the $1000 Everfocus, HiSharps, and Provideos, etc. On paper at least. The Hunt DVR (same one) uses the same soft as the Samsung Techwin unit.
-
Darn, thats cheap, with the hard drives You could buy the GE Kalatel around the same price, 40Gb then add your own unpartitioned unformated hard drives, keeping the original one for warranty purposes. Otherwise they charge much more for higher hard disk space.
-
Kevin what size hard drive did you get for that price? Im trying to see what the equivelant would be in the GE Kalatel DVR. Fred, I have the 16 Channel AvTech right here, its also a demo on my site. Nice unit, for the price, and doesnt crash. Well worth it over any of the $1000 "more expensive" low end DVRs. Rory

Need Help: Converting 16 cam multiplex analog to web digital
rory replied to sportster's topic in System Design
ive got a few muxes out there with the Kalatel DSR-2000e and DSR-1000e single channel DVRs. You can use the full Client Network Software as with their All in one DVRs, but it doesnt do Multi Site or remote configuration. You can playback or save recorded files as movies or images, over the internet or locally. They cost more than the cheap DVRs but they last ... 100% maintenance free, and the network software is full featured. They work with the Robot muxes also. The DSR-2000 goes up to 1000GB, the DSR to 160GB. You can get a 40GB version and then just upgrade the Hard Drive yourself also (Dont tell GE that though) -
I cant stand PC based DVRs as it is, lower image quality, pain in the a** with maintenance and PC issues .. etc .. they are cheap, for sure, but anyway, the only one that has caught my eye is the Iview as the software at least looks professional, GEO is the uggliest one ive seen .. looks like some anime crap. Most of those features are useless.
-
No. But Samsung GVI is crap, and Sony isnt great also. Once it is left to default on Auto White Balance then it will switch according to the camera itself. If its a cheap POS then it will be a crap image and cause issues like this. Sony isnt cheap though, so perhaps its a problem.
-
if you want something that looks like its made by a kindergarden student, then geovision ... he he he he .. its "unprofessional". check out the iview cards, at least their software looks professional. i dont know if any stand alones RTOS (real) DVRs that do pocket PC yet..

Ok as for setting up the Dlink .. Im using a Linksys, but I Followed these specs. I set up an account on DynDNs.org ..its what the router supported, I chose the first one. I got a user account in a couple minutes. Then in the Routers DDNS section, you enter your username, password, and hostname (which you created on DynDns.org) Also, under Virtual Servers in Dlink, or Applications and Gaming in a Linksys Router, find out what ports your DVR uses. First, in your DVR's network settings, enter an internal IP out of the range of your routers DHCP server .. Also make sure to use the correct subnet and gateway. Your HTTP port should be there also, remember that for the router. LET the router do your DDNS, not the DVR. So turn if of in the DVR. Use a fixed IP etc. To find out your local Internal Range, Subnet, gateway, in XP, command Prompt, and enter IPCONFIG. In the router Port Forwarding, or as in the Dlink, Virtual Server, create a name for each port forward, see the image examples below. for the HTTP server it is generally TCP and Port 80 to 80. Enable it. Also set up other ports as needed such as for the client software, which can be something other than port 80, depends on the DVR. Restart everything, wait a few minutes and you should never have to reset anything, once the router is working good. linksys eg is below Linksys: with 2 different DVRs - note the 2 internal IPs, 201 and 202.
