havent had to do this myself, but from what I read, you just set all the cameras to line lock mode. Maybe someone like AV can jump in on this one ..

Mitsubishi I have used, good unit. If you are interested in a DVR, then look at a single channel like the Kalatel VDR (no LAN) or the DSR-1000. Depends how many cameras you have, might be worth just upgrading to a simple 4 channel DVR if you only have 4 cameras. All in one DVRs are much easier to use than a mux with a single channel. I must have 3 Muxes with Single Channels still in the field ... prefer the all in ones .. Rory

software costs money ?

I use to get that alot from windows users that never used ME or didnt set it up properly. XP SP1 was one of the worst along with 98. SP 1 was the most in secure one they came out with.

question should have been, what can windows ME do that linux cant ... and XP does even more than ME .... -Instant Jump Drive -Instant USB Any thing -ASP Web Development -Work Between Portable and non portable windows with Ease -most used OS in the world - in other words - no compatabilty issues with friends / families PCs -One OS - know 1 System inside and out -Driver Support for everything ... -Paint Shop, Cam Studio, BCWipe, millions of other software I download that need windows ... there are enough compatibility issues with windows, dont need to worry about another OS ... not enough time and too much other things to do .. And im not a "fan" of XP, it is just all there is right now ... for what we want to do.. never used linux so I cant really compare, just from what linux users have told me ...i dont plan on, neither mac ... Internet Explorer is crap .. thats why I use FireFox or other .. but to be honest, since I started using windows ME, I have never had a PC crash on me ever ... had some memory issues with Windows ME that was it, but it was a bad mother board in the end .. i dont ackowledge PC as being stable ofcourse .. just never crashed on me .. I wouldnt trust my security on a default XP or ME system though, if it isnt stripped down I wouldnt even use it for anything ... default setups are always shabby .. Service Pack 2 is a totally different OS though ... I wouldnt be using it otherwise .. And by the way, RTOS linux DVRs have crashed on me soo many times it isnt funny .. gawd knows how much a PC based is going to as I start to use them now ... ;-( Nucleous RTOS is the only ones that havent locked up totally on me yet ...

since yah ask .. get ready now ... he he .. iwas using windows ME since it came out, I had it blowing 98 away and Xp for many years ... and more secure than XP ... until Windows XP Service Pack 2 came out. .. the most secure XP so far, and more secure than ME even ,... No Linux ofcourse ... but linux wont do what I need it to do .. anwyay, no Internet Explorer at all, just Fire Fox ... 20+ odd windows services disabled ..i guess you could say its a stripped down version of XP ... doesnt work with DSL or Dial Up even .. tried it ..Cable works fine ...all themes and any add ons turned off or uninstalled, including everyones favourite MSN messenger, not to get mixed up with Messenger Service also disabled ... Ohh, and I forgot to mention im a spead freak .. so if I get my hands on a preinstalled PC be sure its gonna get RE_FORM_ATTED ... later Rory

Hi Dana. Slow Shutter Speeds, slows down motion, but lightens up the image. Anyway, do you have any clips on how dark it is in your locations? What cameras do you have now - as only certain cameras will work well with Infrared. Exact model number is needed to check.Panosonic has a couple that work with IR, though they dont seem to publish them. GE and Sanyo work well with Infrared for sure, I have used them, plus they publish their "Spectral Response". That said. with Infrared, you will Not get any real color images. They are designed to work in Pitch Dark, hence, no color. Imagine it as if you are pointing a large flash light at the area, in the dark, but without color. If the area is not pitch dark, you maybe able to get away with a low lux color camera, which will see in color, in lower lighting situations. These do tend to pixelise, but they see in color. Exview is the most common, and is the best technology to see in low light situations, but NOT in Pitch Dark unless you get an Exview Camera with an IR response then use IR Leds/Bulbs. Some more info on what camera you have now .. let us know. Rory

like the others said, but good search can be found in almost every DVR, in the mid to high end range at the least.. after all it is very simple parameters they are searching with, motion, alarm, etc ... some nice things to look for are thumbnails in the results, and ability to save the selected result directly to a back up device. There are RTOS Standalones, PC OS Standalones, and PC Cards ... decide if you need more features, more stability, more security, fastest recording speed, highest quality, etc ... you wont find any DVR with ALL of that yet, but there isa product out there that will match most of your needs.

sorry, no girls here, except spring break

Yeah cant live without a voltage regulator here ..i sell them over a UPS ..as UPS is just back up, where a voltage regulator saves your equipment from hard damage .. but we have terrible power spikes here .. voltage hits ..and more .. alot of if not most businesses I deal with have generators so a UPS is not required ... anyway, you can get the UPS and Voltage Regulator built in ..like this .. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=422515&CatId=234

PC = maintenance -
yeah every major manu is offering casino DVRs now, its the cost of them .. in the $10k area .. just for one block of like 8 cameras ..
-
yeah but then ... "...Just as MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 are still used in the industry today, MPEG-4 Part 2 will continue to be used. You will use MPEG-4 Part 2 anywhere you want to be compatible with MPEG-4 Part 2 devices or players, such as the millions of 3G mobile phones and digital still cameras that capture and play back MPEG-4 Part 2 video..." but i know what you mean ...

GE uses the Nucleous RTOS .... short of looking at the video there's not much else one can do to it (short of uploading a new bin if they hack into it ofcourse) ... if its mission critical then thats a whole different ball game .. Either way, a Router, nor the web, are part of a security system .. just add ons. Thats if you want it really secure ..anyone can hack a password and username to view the video anyway .. once you get the username and pass you can upload a new bin file ;-0 anyway ..that said i always use a router anyway as the users always want an extra PC on as well ..
-
That depends if the stand alone uses Linux :-0 If its not on the web, then its safe unless they break in and steal it

Hikvision DS-4004HI Software

i thought they had an office in NY? They should have the English software .. -
Dont know about that one, but should also get one with a built in voltage regulator ... for brown outs and voltage spikes ...

and i was talking about our cable company, lets not even mention the dsl pricing .. basically to get any kind of ADSL it is $490 a month for business or home .. regular dsl is cheaper but run by our government owned telco monopoly and most people can only afford the regular DSL, which doesnt appear to be anywhere close to the speed of cable, here. Tech support can be like pulling teeth with both of them ... but thats normal down here with anything ...
-
darn ..we got to pay $150 to get a Static Ip account for a business, or $90 a month for a home user .. and thats just for 1 static IP! And yah get around 1.5-2 download only .. maybe 384 -512 up .. $500 or so a month to get more IPs and faster ...
-
Yes, it divides the 25pps among the amount of cameras connected.
-
250GB brought the price up, but still thats a retail price. They bought it from Swan, who bought it from elsewhere and labeled it with their name. Hence all the markups. Also, the higher end 9 or 10 channel DVRs retail for much more than that.
