BTW its not long now, and its a CAT3 now and they expect it to turn into a CAT4. the red circle is me. i was hoping the storm would be projected further east by now as it keeps moving that way, but looks like we will get it after all. Dictating peoples behavior to fit into your view of what's proper seems like fascism to me. When are uniforms in public going to be mandatory for you guys? You can only put so many chains on your population before they revolt... the rioters get everything for free and dont have to work for a living. Bottom line is they are just spoilt.

Sounds like its just the camera in Infrared? Ive seen an Infrared camera that goes blue when the IR kicks in under pitch dark/low light indoors, likely a bad camera or just the way it handles the IR. -
Camera Comparison Tests: Ultrak, Pelco, Samsung, CNB, Effio

The bullet cameras likely came prefocused, the older box cameras have a separate lens and probably just need a focus. The detail you see, it is normal even with a 420TVL camera, its how it is supposed to be, or should be even better on the local monitor -
That budget is low for both a DVR and camera, at least the camera will be very basic and you will likely want to upgrade it at some point. $250 is the average price of a regular True Day Night IR bullet camera. You could get something like the CNB Monalisa Domes (no Infrared but low light) for much less but with the DVR will still bring you over the budget. I will let others reply about the camera. For now I would spend more on the DVR then just get a budget color IR camera (which those you listed are anyway) then upgrade it or add to the DVR when you can afford it. Either way, dont waste your time with that DVR. Check out the 4 channel Dahua, full featured. Can get it in a budget VGA version or the HDMI model. Both are very inexpensive, should come in near the price of that Q-see but much better. Its not sold under the name Dahua, but other names like QVis/Adata, Mace, etc. Examples of the CNB TDN Monalisa Dome, and some IR Bullet examples; viewtopic.php?f=5&t=26832&start=15

Thats the wrong wire, thats for TV signal. I knew Ive seen that type of issue before .. from an old job I did with RG6U. Ive also seen it when I tried running one of my own cameras 50' with Telco wire and no baluns. Cant guarantee you still wont have a problem, but thats not uncommon with using that cable for CCTV. Might not even be that high voltage causing the problem. But just to check it first, perhaps take the wire down at least to the ground far away from that area and test it there, if its the same problem then its somewhere else on the line, either way I would change the cable for RG59 Copper solid center and 95% copper braid.. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=22433

dont worry, im packing today and gonna carry it all with me. Looks like i might not be able to hang around after all, we could get anything from 58-125mph sustained winds, that means gusts from 80mph-150mph! Just depends on which way the path keeps going. Right now it says this time 24 hours from now, it would be knocking us off the map.

What type of cable is being used, distance, and power? May be more to it then just interference from the high voltage.

@ Soundy How are you splitting the cat5 to 18awg, spliced or using something else? Also at the DVR end do you use single baluns plugged into each channel or a 16 way receiver? And if so what brand/model? On another topic.. I came across a job that has the quad cat5 (eclipse model) at the DVR end. They had like 9 or so DVRs (not all channels being used) Maybe like 24 of these quad things all mounted down 2 walls with RG59 off to the DVR channels. I didnt get to see the other end of it but i imagine its 1 cat5 for a set of 4 cameras then spliced somewhere near the cameras, but wondering why they would use those quads at the DVR end and not a couple 16 channel receivers which would be neater? Then multipair to each large area with a punch block and a cat5 to each camera with a balun. Or maybe they used another quad at the camera ends and used RG59 off to each camera?

thanks i appreciate it.

Cool. Can see the colors are off with the tree in the back on the Effio-E But thats common for not having an IR cut. We need to maybe start a test sub forum -
for one thing its way too close to that high voltage.

Something like the Dahua DVRs would do most of what you want for cheap .. They can get the basic 4 channel DVRs (or larger DVRs) then just setup one user for 1 camera for remote access. Then they can use any [non IP] CCTV camera. They can use the manufacturer software called PSS or DSS for 50-1000 DVRs (really dont want that much per monitoring PC though) and up to 121 way multiview - plus multiple monitor and or alarm center feature. PSS is not really considered Enterprise though and the Search recorded video is rather basic compared to most PC DVRs, but it does work and can backup video to AVI that can be played using any generic H264 codecs. There is also NVR software from a company called Linovision that sees the Dahua DVR channels as individual IP cameras and can do offsite recording and much better search etc. cost is low compared to other NVR software, not sure how good it is though as I only tried the demo version which was limited, but still interesting. DSS would give an admin control and can monitor the DVRs also. Setup is done through a web browser on a remote server PC and the admin can add DVRs and channels and also users, users then can use the client and login and access only the cameras assigned to them. DSS has other features like alerts and logs etc. Not sure if this is what you are looking for though, just putting it out there as an option. No its not Exact or Qnap but you did say low budget.

Still need a way to switch the video from 2 inputs to 1 video output. Some kind of module video switcher or something. I searched before and was hard to find anything that could fit in a housing.
-
other issue with that camera is the widest lens option is 6mm.
-
I know, Ive seen it but everywhere I go they say its discontinued or special built to order that could take 1-2 months Going with my idea though, we could use any color and bw camera, including IP I think hardest thing is finding a photocell controlled video switchover .... or maybe im searching for the wrong thing .. I have found one made for RC devices but thats only for power.

Yeah gotta spend more on the business routers now for the antennas, at least with Linksys It was bad enough that the antennas used to be removable then they came fixed, now none.
