Had a nice meeting with their Florida based sales Manufacturer Rep this morning, demo'd one of their windows XP Embedded DVRs. Tons of featurers. Nice unit, I may start carrying it as an alternative to the Kalatel DVRs, but still carry the Kalatel for those users who only want a front button controlled DVR. AS the GS one uses a mouse. They have their place definately, especially the XP embedded is pretty cool, its stripped right down version of windows. Question, if you are only using it for the one thing, DVR, and have a router firewall, then no need for an anti virus right? Only thing I could think of if some one actually inserted a floppy/CD and clicked on a virus on that an then it could run. Ofcourse I asked alot of questions, and suggested recommendations or at least what alot of us would like to see. It actually has alot of those 'wanted' features that most PC cards and ofcourse stand alones, dont have. They have other versions ofcourse. http://www.generalsolutions.net/products/Digital_Video_Recorders.asp the one I demo'd isnt on there but it looks like a storesafe, comes in black and has windows XP embedded, 240pps and 4 CIF. Price with 160GB is around the same as the Nuvico. Rory

Can I get a product catalog from somewhere, cant quite navigate their web site ... but im looking for a line I can carry that have domes and wide dynamic in particular, that work (unlike the kalatels) and it has to look good too (unlike the pano). Ive used their cameras in the past when someone else ordered them or just asked for a dist to send what they had, and they were good ..but i need some incentive to try something new, been burned with a few other well known brands and some not so well known .. right now im sticking to the individual products I have used and worked good, which counts out wide dyanamic domes and box cameras ive tested so far .. except the Pano Wide Dyanamic as it have one to test that a client has here .. soon .. but, id rather all cameras be the same brand ..the rep for Samsung Techwin was down here promoting those .. but .. how long will they be around and noone has used them yet on this side of the world!? So you know .. let me know dude .. ill be up a little while longer .. rory

DVR long time .. How are their wide dynamic cameras? Any images? Thanks Rory

i thought jvc stopped making cameras? Send it back if you can. Or try a difference lens first. Auto Iris if the Current Lens is manual Iris. those $50 cameras i mentioned, they cost us $150 time as we land them here, and i still chuck them if they go bad, as heck its going to cost me just as much to send it back ..only $300+ cameras I ever send back for warranty.
-
yeah i seen it before on a $50 color bullet camera, we just chucked it, It is the light that is causing the bleed, not sure why maybe someone else has some info on it. What type of camera is it? Change it if you can. Rory

I dont think anyone can say that 1 brand has the best products, or all their products are great. Same with Kalatel, actually their support got worse since GE bought them, but they have some really great products, but them some of their products are real crap. Basically you can never stick to just one manufacturer as none of them carry an entire line of products for every single application. But good support is a must. Samsung Techwin is now competing against Panasonic, as they have a large range of wide dynamics. Ill be trying some of them soon. Rory

i just told the electrician to run RG6 cable, its run 850'+ and I got it on a T-connector, basically its going to a monitor in a security booth. It appears to be the same quality. I imagine thats just regular RG6, I doubt they would have bought anything special.

February 14, 2005 – 09:45 Brutal Attacks on Jitney Passengers Prompt Calls To Reform Unsafe Bus System Passengers assaulted and thrown off bus traveling at high speed. An urgent appeal to reform the country's unsafe public transportation system went out yesterday after three people were assaulted on a jitney and thrown from the vehicle while it moved at high speed. The passengers were attacked and brutally beaten before being tossed of the bus on Friday evening, The Tribune Newspaper reports. One of the victims, Stephanie Sturrup, 34, from Westchester England, said the ordeal began after she boarded a jitney traveling to the Pinewood/Kennedy sub-division on Friday evening. Mrs. Sturrup said there were six people on the bus at that time, including the bus driver, and that two men attacked her and two other passengers and threw them off the bus. All three victims received serious injuries, with one passenger still in hospital recovering as of Sunday night. "Never again will I ride on a bus in this country," Mrs. Sturrup said. Her sentiments were emphatically echoed by Sharad Lightfoot, another victim of the brutal attacks. Mrs. Sturrup recounted the trauma of the evening to the Tribune newspaper saying that it all began at about 6:15pm when two male passengers suddenly attacked a third man on the bus. In the area of Baillou Hill Road she then watched in horror as the two attackers threw the man, known only as "Matthew" out of the moving vehicle. Mrs. Sturrup assumed they had removed the man form the bus because he did not pay the fare. Further along Baillou Hill Road the bus stopped and passenger Sharad Lightfoot boarded. Mrs. Sturrup said the two men who had attacked Matthew then assaulted Mr. Lightfoot. "They punched him in the face and tackled him", she said. Recalling the incident, Mr. Lightfoot, 25, of Mahogany Street, said the men took turns punching him in the face as they tried to get to his wallet. Mr. Lightfoot said he finally made it to the door of the bus and pried it open. "I kept calling for the bus driver to stop the bus, but instead he just sped up, he was doing about 50 mph. "They kept pushing me and then they threw me off the bus". he said. Mrs. Sturrup said she saw Mr. Lightfoot hold on to the outside of the bus door before he was thrown off in the Pinewood area. Mrs. Sturrup said after Mr. Lightfoot had been forcefully removed from the jitney, the two men assaulted her, demanding that she give them her handbag. She said she was thrown from the bus as it traveled at high speed somewhere close to the Kennedy sub-dividion. She also appealed to the bus driver for help but it was obvious that he was part of the criminal operation as he offerred no assistance nor did he stop when requested to do so. It is not clear why the bus driver has not been arrested but it is also not suprising. Numeorus murders, assaults and hit-and-run incidents go unpunished in the Bahamas every year due to the completely dysfunctional and corrupt legal system. The public jitney sytem, which often carries many tourists, has become a "wild west" of transportation. Drivers often operate their vehicles while under the influence of alcohol, blaring loud obnoxious music and verbally assaulting women who board their jitneys. Transporation Minister Glenys Hana-Martin has been promising drastic changes to the public transportation system ever since a jitney overturned injuring 26 people in November, 2003. But with the utter incompetence so often displayed by the Christie government, nothing ever gets done past the press release stage. After the incident in 2003, Minister Hanna-Martin said that collaborative ministerial meetings - National Security, Attorney General, Works and Transport & Aviation - have submitted recommendations, which will be implemented over the next few weeks. They never were. She also said she wanted people to know that the long-term problems were being addressed through funding provided by the Inter American Development Bank. The money was apparently funneled to PLP cronies as no changes to the system were ever enacted. "The transportation problems have been neglected for a long time. And changes like a unified public transportation system won't come over night. We have to examine and study the problems and find the best solutions," Mrs. Hanna-Martin said two years ago in an attempt to deal with the matter via a press release. The problems with public transporation in Nassau have only increased since then with the Minister and government doing nothing but making promises.

actually seems port 8080 is the GEO's port and yes it works. Like Herm said, try uninstalling the software and reinstalling it. Also, using internet Explorer, can you connect to it or is this where your problem is? If so then it could be an active X problem with IE on your PC as that what IE uses for GEO ...does it just not connect or does not load anything properly? And, are you using Internet Explorer or using Netscape or FireFox (have to ask!) Also, if your PC is XP and did a recent update to Service Pack 2 - it will require you click on the yellow tab at the top of the window to install the ActiveX control. This is a security update in Service Pack 2. Rory

okay I can connect to port 4550, and 5550 but thats it. Maybe do what Hermin said also.. Also, you may want edit the post you made that shows your IP, if you need to send anyone it here just PM it to them, or you may find hackers logging on! Also can slow down your connection if others start logging on, if it is a static IP anway, if the IP changes than no worries. Rory
-
Well port 8080 is the router's port and I can connect to that without a problem. Do you know what GEO's port is? Rory
-
so check the IP address, user, and password in GEO first. What I would also do is do a telnet to the DVR. I dont know GEO though so I dont know what port it connects on, if you can find that out, see if you can telnet to it. Start, Programs, Accessories, Communications, Hyperterminal New Connection name it anything ... say DVR, using the drop down for CONNECT USING, select TCPIP, then enter the DVR's local IP, and Port Number it connects to - for example with kalatel DVRs it is port 1024. Click OK, if it connects bottom left of the window you will see CONNECTED ..if not it will let you know. If you can connect then it is perhaps a user name/password issue. Someone else that knows GEO better may be able to help from there. Rory

I take it that you replaced 1.1.1.1. from your local DVR IP ... anwyay, if so, that is good, you are connecting to that IP from your PC .... So perhaps something lies in the IP address you entered in GEO or the Username in GEO? rory
-
you changed 1.1.1.1 for your DVR IP right? anwyay, it should run 4 times, and should either TIME OUT on each request, or give a Response. You should see the results and the window should not close out. a Response is good.
-
haven used it, but its the same remote software as HiSharp, you can find reviews here about that. Rory
-
are you using Internet Explorer? Anyway, what OS are you using? If its Windows XP, goto Command Prompt under Start, Programs, Accessories. Type in PING 1.1.1.1 where 1.1.1.1. is your local IP address in the DVR. Let us know if you get a TIMED OUT or not. Question, can you access the internet from this PC that is causing the problem, in other words is it on the same network as the DVR. Rory
