Connect a cam to DVR card and analog monitor.
rory replied to Integratek's topic in General Digital Discussion
I recently uses a T-connector on the monitor out of a stand alone DVR as it had no second monitor (everfocus), and ran RG6 850'+, it worked fine on a CCTV Monitor & a TV. Rory -

anyone got any links or sources for the following: Security Gate Logging System There are 2 security booths, 1 in, 1 out, the in one has a special lane just for the workers. The out is for everyone. They want to be able to log in the staff, name of company, staff name, number of staff, time. Then on out, they want to check the "in log" with the staff record and the number of staff leaving, so they can know if anyone is staying behind (and robbing). They want to keep all the info for future purposes just as a back up. I was thinking having all 500 home owners as accounts, then the guards enter the staff info manually. Problem is most of the guards have never used a computer and are very elderly, so it has to be as simple as possible, like the click of the mouse. Currently they write everything down in a book, which is time consuming. I was thinking any staff that is not in the database could be told to goto adminstration and create a record, so when they enter, using a licence plate camera to get the plate TEXT, it pops up, with home owners accosiated to that staff member, and the guard just clicks on the home owner they are going to visit, and since the staffs info is already there, all they have to do is select from a drop down box, the number of extra staff that is with them. On exit, each licence plate is scanned by another camera, and the program searches the database to see if that licence plate is logged in or not, if it is a home owner it will not be. When it finds it logged in, it pops up and then the gaurd checks the number of staff entered to the amount coming out, clicks OK if it is okay, or HOLD if it is not - when on hold it will go into a seperate database table, and delete the logged in record, and same with OK which can goto a back up database. We were originally thinking a scanner, bar codes, etc, but then thats just extra stuff to get damaged or lost, and the same amount of work involved on the software side. So i guess it is a log in and log out system, but with the least amount of typing on the guards side, as they are not PC users. Thing is I doubt they will want to send them to adminstration to get a record created, like if the staff is only coming once and is not a regular, and they say come at night, then administration is closed - so that is a major dilema - even if we were to use bar code stickers on the cars. Someone still has to enter the staffs info and they are likely to grow. I could write it myself, but looking to see if there is anything out there already. Any ideas? tanks rory

Nope, geo cant help me, in fact no DVR can. I already have downloaded a licence plate capture software that can capture and convert the plate number to text, thats the easy part., there are tons of software out there for that .. and i can even write my own GUI software to get that, do what I want with it, etc ... my problem is that when a worker comes in at say: 10pm saturday night, and this is his first time there ... he is not in the system and the guards cant type ... thats my dilema ... You guys in the US and UK got to understand, 3rd world means 3rd world but thanks for the help either way .. i am taking in all points and speaking with the contractor on this ..

So you're saying even without it being a wide dynamic camera, it beats a wide dynamic camera for back lighting? Also, is it really as ugly as it looks in the image on SpyTown or is that just them? I need to know before i buy the Pano I dont like ugly cameras though, so im looking at www.samsungcctv.com (techwin) which have some great specs and look good, they are currently competing with pano, and prices are low on most products.

was on a job today at the harbour side, by the cruise ships actually just east of the new straw market .. When I pulled up in front of the store to park, and was taking tools here and there, noticed I was stepping over streams of urine, coming down from the building's wall, fresh urine so it was from the afternoon not last night .. so I moved my vehicle ..over a couple spaces when one freed up. Then I noticed the people selling stuff out of the back of their cars, hanging around my vehicle and walking back and forth, thinking maybe they were (who knows) trying to break in as they were leaning up all over it, I was looking out the window .. saw a little kid from one of the families leaning on my vehicle when he saw me in the window he moved .. the older woman was just standing there I figured her car was next to mine or something ... anyway, when I went ouside to get something ..i noticed 2 fresh puddles of unrine right where they were standing!! They peed right there in the road standing up ..in front of all the tourists walking back and forth .. And it wasnt just them, other kids who were hanging out on the sea wall kept coming back and forth, grown men also, I just couldnt be 100% sure to say anything, plus it wasnt my place ..but sure i grabbed the camera, only to find out I had brought the wrong one, the one with the dead battery .. Needless to say the stench of urine I smelled when I first got out my vehicle when i pulled up, was fresh urine and these NO MANNERED people who were probably selling without any licence also, had their whole families there walking back and forth peeing all over the darnb street and walls all afternoon ..WHAT A DISGRACE!! As i was looking outside, at the area, and the crowds of unruly locals, drinking out of bottles, peeing all over the place, garbage everywhere, just a very run down area for a tourist spot, then a huge fight right outside being broken up by police, which was between a bunch of different vendors who were cussing each other out even as they were leaving the area.... and I thought - this is what we want tourists to see when they come down here for a 1 day stop on the cruise ship!!!??! Now how many of them will ever actually come here on vacation after seeing that crap! And this was a Sunday, I wonder what it is like on a weekday .. oh well, will see tomorrow! Yep I havent been down there in years, and after this job dont plan on going back either !! Just a discusting area when you have to listen to cussing and walk over streams of urine ... I just wonder what the store owners in that area think, like have they ever mentioned anything to the police or someone? I know Im going to mention it to the new store owner tomorrow, thats for sure.

No thats the problem, there is no worker database, and there are new workers all the time .. which is where the dilema is .. the majority of the current security guards cant type .. and that is a norm down here ... (3rd world)

.. where where .!

herm you have email ... does i view PC card work with pocket PC? rory

Hi Tim, welcome to the forum, Yeah I realise that Pano would more than likely have the security, I imagine the only issue would be something like axis that sells basically over the counter, most axis users just dont realise they are wide open .. though they may have fixed that by now ..

what about voice recognosion, see the thing we are trying to get away from is any kind of security guard PC usage, or at least no keyboard, as 99% of them just cant use a PC... But we need to be able to get the info from the Staff workers at least for the first time, after that it could be stored in a database along with their licence plate number and then the software can do the rest, even on exit it can sound a siren when a logged in staff worker is exiting, so all the guard has to do is click OK or HOLD .. if they have the same number of staff with them or not .. So exiting is easy enough, its the entrance and getting the staffs info.. Other than voice I dont see it happening any other way, unless they learn how to type a little, or hire new guards ... t hing is most of these are retired cops who can still own guns .. where as all other security guards cannot, only cops can own guns.

thanks, ill look through it when i get back from work..

what C7 said, a Video Grabber Card, or a PC DVR card ... If you want to record, and if you want remote video, then buy a PC DVR card, 1-4 channels, or if you dont, then a video grabber card will work just for basic viewing, and will do as much or more than the DVR with more expensive software purchased seperately. What will you be using the camera for? Thats the question which will decide what to use. Rory

the staff cant get out of the vehicles ... and as we have left and right hand drive vehicles here that wont work .. They can pass an ID card over to the guard but to do the finger they would need to get out .. but a card can get lost easy with 100's of workers ..

Snap-and-seal RCA and BNC Connectors
rory replied to kaysadeya's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
why are you using this, is it outside, or just for grins and giggles? -
Go to any electrical store, and pick up some 18awg cable. This is used for security cameras, and which comes in Siamese Cable, everyone should sell this. You can power cameras hundreds of feet with this, 12VDC or 24VAC. Rory

WoW. conduit is more expensive then wire mold? Interesting. well i dont know, but it costs more as I have to get an electrician to run it ... I dont have the tools nor time ...
-
all the cable wire in this home is run in wire mold, large white ...as conduit would have looked too bad ....all video is in conduit though ..
-
Yep, the cheap Smallest wire mold is around $15 a 5' piece down here, thats the white one, or $12 for 5' of beige wire mold. The thicker ones cost alot more. But stilll cheaper than conduit ..

Cool, yeah the last job alarm job I did, I had the network guys run all the cable (as the network guys subbed me to do the job and they wanted to make a buck), but I ended up fishing everything in the walls myself as it was all sheetrock ..over concrete ..and i wanted to get the motions down to a 7' level, also keypads, plus I had them do one and they put it in the wrong place .. Ofcourse the warehouse was all concrete and was a pain in the but .. lots of 3m glue ....they didnt want to run conduit! anwyay, took me an extra week just to do that ! It was a huge office.warehouse building though, Im doing one of their new small stores tomorrow actually, or sunday (less traffic as its right downtown), but i got ceiling mount motions and drop ceiling in this quote! They have some 30 stores throuhgout the bahamas so my maijn goal is to get he the cameras for all of them! Thats why im charggin them not too much on this one .. enough though for a 2 hour job on my own .. but I want to get the cameras, Im giving them video phones at cost and special packages for video (2 optins, budget and High end - high end gives them multi site remote) Anyway, yeah I only ever need it for physical protection ... but too many times they dont even want to spend the money on that ..Im stopping that now in big jobs ... i run the cable or I show them where to run it if its in conduit , and where exactly to run the conduit ...also amplified UTP all the way on big jobs ...
-
herm pace the beers mon I am ...right now actually .. dude, why not look at becoming the distributor for them so I can buy from you, for real now .. I got some big jobs coming up, gated communities all on the ocean .. maybe my way out of here and into the US eventually .. or at least I would be able to afford more vacations to the US

by the way, that "Brute" is a great camera, great color production, but .. its not the best image, in other words they need to make it with an auto iris version, and maybe now a wide dynamic one ... but heck its strong .. and thats comparing it in the realms of the Extreme Camera Housings .. I just havent tried running over it yet with my jeep ..soon, soon. .. the lenses are cheesy though, they need a varifocal version ... The mOtion Detector camera, easy to install, looks like a real motion, well it IS a real motion, hence the blinking light ..cant even see the camera as it is a pinhole lens, but it is not low light, so that kind of sucks, but still, since it is a hidden camera. Note to EVERYONE - if you need a hidden camera, if you dont have sufficient light, and are buying a camera with a pinhole lens, get B/W one time, as it will be a better image. Other than that I am happy with this motion camera even if it is not that low light a camera. The lights are on all the time here so its not really an issue.

C7 do you guys run conduit also, or just pull cable? See thats where I stay away from it, when it needs conduit I get the electrician in on it .. they are the only ones down here that run conduit .. If I cant use conduit and say needs to be 'prettier' i use moulding and run it myself, or pay someone else to if Im busy.. Now though, when it comes to cameras and its indoors, I run all the cable myself, so I know im keeping the cable a distance from the electric. PS. I hate running cable!

extreme CCTV ? I can email them, they will make custom housings ... LOL
