    Linksys Router Going mad

no they just use the web for browsing and email, nothing else ... anyway, will see what happens .. will see if the firmware upgrade helps if not Ill take off DHCP and enter the IPS manually, then if it still does it Ill just put one computer on it by itself and make sure that computer is working okay ...if it is not then I know its the Modem/Cable, if it is, darn ill go back to the router and double monthly price for now ..got too much else on my plate this week! Rory
  2. http://www2.cop-usa.com/ebproductdetail.asp?id=529 You can make this yourself if you cant buy it. Using the power supply's cord, cut it, buy a terminal strip, such as a 8 way. cut out one individual part, and you have now got something to join your 2 wires together without taping.. Rory
  3. i can connect with G from the street into a local store here ...watch live video ..

    Linksys Router Going mad

he didnt try that, but its an old modem, and seems to be working fine. Twice in a few months that I hooked up the router it has been doing this only when the router is connected. The router is a VPN router. What does VPN mean anyway? Should I filter anything? I checked the log just now and it has tons of incoming requests to tons of ports. Basically it goes down several times a day, while the cable modem connection is actually still on. Shouldi try disabling the DHCP server, and just enter the IPs manually in each PC? I Guess ill try this tomorrow. Also, i just enabled Block Anonymous WAN requests as that was off; dont know if this will help or not. Filter MUlticast is enabled. What is VPN passthrough, everything there is enabled. Also what is QoS? Nothing enabled there ... UPnP is disabled. DHCP Client Lease is 0. PCs are 2 windows ME and 2 Windows XP. Should I try putting the 2 ME machines on a Hub I have here and leaving the XP on the router, will that help? Also, firmware is from 2003, do yah think there is an upgrade? It was purchased brand new just this month. any ideas? She's getting ready to go back to the hub setup but id rather not ..i checked with Cable and they say it is only 1 DHCP Ip and the basic package now, so that end should be okay. thanks Rory
  7. sorry just noticed you said power adapter, their wire is normally stranded 18/20AWG also though which is thick. What adaptor are you using? If you mean the plug in power supplies, I rarely use them unless it is temporary, or just at my house, and I tape/beanie them Otherwise I always use a multiple output power supply. also, 18AWG cable is better with terminal strips than cat5 though my cat5 single pairs are in a box so no tension on them, the join in the image is only at 1 12V camera and is doubled up. Obviously soldering and hink shrink tubing is a better choice, but a quick easy method, this is it, besides beanies on 22/24AWG or tape, which can also come loose with a good tug in the ceiling..
  8. I am using Cat5 with the terminal strips also, which is 24awg (1/4 the size of the siamese power cable) and I never have to fold it. They screw right down, just have to get the wire centered, though with the terminal strips i use, 18AWG power cable fits it tight anyway as the terminal strips are so small. Maybe you bought the larger ones? Rory
  9. cant help you there, I always use twist on, and here is how to do them: http://www.gemelec.com/twist-on.htm (you can simply use cutters instead of the tool also)

    $1500 - $2000 DVR

is it enabled in the programming? I dont know that DVR in particular, but with some of the DVRs I use, sometimes if the camera does not have enough power or there is no video signal, or whatever, it will auto disable on power up, then you have to manually enable it, or restart to find it once the problem is fixed.
  13. Darn, most of the cameras we install down here are installed just for that, to watch the staff as "dey likes to tief so much down 'ere!"
  14. Like this: Instead of Cat5 you just use the Red & Black frome the Siamese and the RG59 BNC Connector. .. temp images deleted by timeout ..

150' is not an issue, I am powering an alarm keypad 150'+ away today, on 1 pair of cat5 and no voltage drop - its 12VDC by the way.

    Samsung ccd cameras

you could get any camera to work using splicing etc ... just gotta know which wire does what, i did this with some Kmart type cameras (same thing as what you are talking about, they just stuck the name samsung on it) ...and got it to work .

    Freezing cameras

yes Ive used the desert hawk and it is crap as far as the video quality, its no more than a bullet camera type lens and CCD. It was some kind of seller back in the day, since then we have thrown them all out. (we had them at the alarm co here as well as couple other places I have seen them installed) since now you have to go through ADI or whoeever will actually take the time to sell you honeywell .... not even worth talking about Silent Witness, they are silent for sure...
