Snap-and-seal RCA and BNC Connectors
rory replied to kaysadeya's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Guys, what is the snap and seal uses for, outdoors?? If so, why? -
also, if I "Block Anonymous Internet Requests" (new name for firewall?) do you think that may help? Stop the cable co from pinging it so much? Or maybe it will just stop it working all together? BTW, When she restarts the cable modem for 30 seconds it then works fine ... Rory

ok i did the clone, and it worked, but still goes down .. different though .. the router's PC lights dont blink as they did before, but the internet light on the router blinks now ..then the internet does not work. I have used the clone mac on other routers by the way, and no issues, In fact I have never had an issue before with any Linksys router. Client just emailed me again to let me know it wasnt working again. Its the kind of client that has the money to pay for anything, so this is another reason I need to get this working if yah know ... Im looking at the router remotely now, one thing I dont know, what is "Filter Multicast" Also, IPs assigned are 100-102. DHCP Server is enabled, start IP is 100. Client lease time is 0. The MAC I have cloned is from one of the computers. Only thing I can think now, is as it is sunday tomorrow, and there is noone in at the cable co to help, I plug the HUB back in and see what happens. If more than 1 computer works, I know they have not changed it at their end. Secondly, would be to go down (3rd time) in person and see someone I know in the Static IP dept and have them pull up the account and check it out, have them totally delete the account and go from scratch .. they know I use Routers with DVRs so they shouldnt say anything, plus they are much more technical than the other ones I dealt with already. What yah think? I cant tell this client I really dont have time for this right now, while really I dont, as Im in the middle of 2 CCTV jobs ... plus a few large quotes ... but yah know ... its like i already have a couple headaches as it is!! In fact one is an alarm and CCTV new/upgrade/move .. the other the client keeps adding new things ... plus im working on a web site I have to complete before monday/tuesday .. anyway .. thanks rory

not computer, or CCTV related, but does anyone know how many pairs of wire a phone system extension uses please? Is it just 1 pair? Say the system has 2 lines for example, and we already have 2 extensions (100 & 101), we want 1 more extenstion (102). Im not hooking it up or anything, just want to know how many pairs to leave for them. thanks Rory

true .. yep, well I got 2 electricians trained pretty good, well one i have for a couple years now, works closely with high end clients, but then he raised all his prices, even though that isnt that bad, he is always busy now! the other, i started using him now for everything, neat, fast and cheaper .. I mean he still doesnt know what the other guy does, and especially as far as tricks of the trade, but at least he can bend a conduit Ill show or he will learn the rest as we get more jobs .. actually, last 2 jobs I ran all the cable myself, and there is no interference .. i have to rewire or at least move some cable for one job that has nothing but interference on and off .. they will eventually get it I hope, keep that video able as far as possible away from high voltage ... in my case I ran cat5 at least 1 foot and it is okay.. I think they just ran it all over the florescent lighting etc ... But my biggest problem is with other electricians, like for prewired homes, with CCTV and alarms .. they are like, we will run the conduit you buy and pull the wire (we dont know where to get that from, they say - im talking Telco or Coax in alot of cases!!)..im like, heck, why dont i just friggin run the conduit also !!!!
-
we need some 'real' cable pullers down here, all we's got is electricians (if you would call some of them that) .. and gee, some have never even touched a piece of coax!!!!!
-
darn thats alot! i just put in an IP in the range, the internal gateway, and the internal subnet ... DHCP is on by default. but then thats the Stand Alone DVR ..
-
they dont have one yet, its a small retail, they'll just want 2 extenstion, maybe not eve, we may just run the main phone line .

Okay, this one probably goes out to the network guys: this is what I need: I have 1 Store, 5 Cameras. I have a second store 100' away, where the DVR is, and the other cameras. I will send the signal from buulding to building using UTP Baluns, in one large multi pair which will also send Telco and Alarm (1 pair per camera, thats 5 pairs or 10 conductors). Id like a Junction box, that accepts the incoming UTP from those 5 cameras (1 pair each), and then goes out to the DVR with RG59. In other words i dont want the Baluns direct at the DVR. If the enclosure also has punch downs for phone lines and alarm that would be good also. Should I just use any enclosue and get a network CO to hook up come punch downs? Once the baluns are connected in the box properly screwed to the terminals and the box is closed then it should be okay yes? Then I can just do the same at the other end ...? They want to do this as cheap as possible so thats why Im not using something like NVT. thanks Rory

1500-2000' Amplified UTP is way less expensive than Fiber by the way .. and about the same cost of amplified coax.
-
Kalatel, ExtremeCCTV, Provideo.
-
Nothing comes to mind, besides a fixed lens mini dome, multiple cameras in one dome housing.
-
Hi At that distance, I would use Amplified UTP/CAT5. Coax can go as far as 1200-1800' but at those distances you will loose quality. Amplifiers for coax exist though they only make it clear video to a certain distance, such as 1500ft.

GE has one coming out?? I know they have been making matrix for years, they have a mux matrix that expands to 32 channels, been out for years, basically a 32 channel mux, and they have a 16 channel matrix DVR that costs like $8K for a 160GB, havent heard anything yet on the 32 channel though ... any links? No, OSM is not that common with cameras, yet. It is however becoming popular now, but I have found the cameras without it, to have a better video quality. Wide Dynamic Cameras however, are using it now. Still I dont perosnally like it as much, as they "try" to make it too easy, while it still requires some knowledge. This includes the GE wide dynamic also. All Zoom cameras have it though...OEM or otherwise. Rory -

Hey, no prob, I also sell some low end productrs (eclipseCCTV.com) as down here, well our economy is pretty bad and alot of retailers and home users cannot afford the higher end products. As for Honeywell, they ARE OEM also. They just rename them. Toshiba is almost out of the CCTV business. Neither are considered very good anymore. As for Day Night .. An installation im working on currently, I have a GE kalatel KTC-2000DN (day Night Exview) a Panasonic (474) Day Night Wide Dynamic, and also a Toshiba 6400 which was left over from an "old" job. This is as far as Day Night Pro Cameras goes. Well Toshiba is not on the same league unfortunately, never has been. Nice laptops though GE Kalatel's. Low Low light, ill have to post some images to let them all see, nice product, and at $100 less a price from a month ago, worth it. Pano - What can I say - Can never go wrong with the Panasonic - has to be the best camera i have used - ugliest one - but darn they are sweet - day night Wide Dynamic - none other comes close - not as low light as the GE Kalatel - but better resonse to glare at night such as from car lights. Toshiba - very basic - nothing special - day color is not good. I should have some images by the weekend of these 3. I would have to say, Panasonic has the Best Day Night Camera. ExtremeCCTV has the Best Day Night Infrared Cameras - though cost alot more than Panasonic. If you are looking for a great LOW LIGHT day night camera, without Wide Dynamic. GE has a Great Exview one, that also can recognise the 1100nm IR spectrum response, found in the ExtremeCCTV invisible IR. As for OEM cameras, they generally do not have IR cut Filters, hence the low price. If it is as low as $80 then for sure it has no IR cut Filter, color, OR day Night. Any color camera will need an IR cut filter for a good daytime image. See this link for the need for an IR Cut Filter: http://www.cs.unc.edu/Research/stc/FAQs/Cameras_Lenses/IR%20Filter.htm Now for some Day Night Cameras with IR Cut Filters: Sanyo GE Kalatel Panasonic Bosch Phillips Speco Provideo (CVC-7706DNV only) Prices all range in the $350-400 range camera only. Now remeber though, I am a performance freak, and quality is my middle name ..so alot of others can get away with less than I am used to Rory -
hmm, just been testing the GE Kalatel WaveReader Multi Site some more, sweet, can watch a bunch of sites in 36 (and 64) way multi screen at one time .. can use some improvements, but still nice ..i have to see how I can implment that in my own software, I can now see how it is done ..

Yep yep and YEP! BUT .... Are you talking about demos of cameras or DVRs, as you are in the Security Camera section ...???? Anyway, as you are talking about DVRs/Remote Video and not cameras .. basically, Browser based Remote Video apps are nowhere as powerfull as windows Apps, they are only good for one thing, quick remote view of your DVR with little to no downloads - other than this y ou may as well download the full program. The Asian Demos just make me choke, especially GEO which is the most unstable of demos I have tested, crashes my PC straight through ..how many active X do they want you to install for gawds sake! Loan DOS pop up batch files, have they ever heard of windows scripting ..!? Or are they doing something they dont want me to know ..! Seriously though, why the heck use the browser based if I have to install a regular windows setup program anyway, just let me use a full powered windows GUI one time!! Demo didnt work anyway, needed a user and pass ... Video Insight makes the most sense, nothing to download! the others, seen them been there done that, no time tonight .. one last thing though, hey, at least these guys have demos, most of the big boys dont even have a demo online ...

Just read your update, if it is like you said, as mostly a deterrent, then those cameras are fine. Watch out for the warranty on them though, I stopped selling OEM cameras over 3 years ago for lots of different reasons .. got to excuse me, im the type that will still put a $1000 in a low risk are if I had the monnies, Im a performance freak and I love high quality video I tell my competition here (plumbers, electricians, etc) call me if you want the best video available. .. though I do have cheap BW bullets myself here, still they are Provideo, and I believe highly in brand names as they do matter alot when it comes to CCTV. ... Ok, the wiring seems good, since there is a budget, see how it goes. It should work. Just watch out for high voltage. Cameras are cosidered medium resolution, OEM, nothing special. You may want to look at something in the area of GE, Phillips, Sanyo, or Ganz, a little more $$$ but, there is a huge difference in video quality, as well as overall quality of the product. Sony is just the chip used, it takes alot more to make that chip work well. The price alone sais alot for the product. You get what you pay for in CCTV. In other words, it is a very low end camera. Even in a high cost, high quality camera lux is not definative. More than likely, it is 0.1 lux but still it does not really mean alot, in any camera. If it is exview though you can expect to get in the area of 0.1 lux, and sometimes lower. If there is a strict budget, then this seems okay. But for $14,000, I imagine that is mostly labour to run the cable?? Sounds like alot of labour .. That doesnt sound like a budget job to me, and im in a heavily inflated country (bahamas) Rory
