    riots

that was just a rumour, I heard from a better source it was bahamians only .. gawd knows our news media is useless, it was probably al-quada!!

    riots

we had a riot in a area on the island last night, and all into today still going on apparently, 1 person dead, cars burned, people shot and beaten, normal families locked inside their homes ... unfortunately, our local news media is pathetic, so there is no news besides word of mouth, which is basically rumors, and we have all kinds of rumours going around from cops shot a kid, to haitians are the riotors, to well the list goes on, see what happens in a 3rd world ....no darn news ...!!!
  4. Do you only get rolling lines at night? If so then maybe a light comes on at night that crosses the cable for that camera .. ofcourse could just be a bad camera .. Test a monitor at the camera directly and see what happens, with no other connection except the power. If it still does it, power it from the same extenstion cord as the monitor Also, redo connections, use new BNC connectors/RCA adaptors, they may have been exposed and are coroded. I also hate to admit it, that is my current issue with a couple Provideo Bullets, I had originally warned the owner I needed gang boxes, to seal up, but yah now! Hence several hurricanes later ...and a lot of salt air .. Rory
  5. Electrical interference I have experienced, has not been rolling lines, it is up down variating lines, it actually looks like interference. Rolling lines can mean other things, power and sync for example. Need more info to determine. Rory
  6. how is everything situated, locations of power, cameras, mux, mux power, monitor, etc.? Are all cameras 12VDC or 24VAC or mized, which cameras does it do this on, and do you have an image clip? Can you plug a monitor direct into the camera, if so, does it do it there, or just at the mux end? there is more but first answer these plz,.. Rory
  7. try it and see what happens Test it first if you can, without running all wire, just put a piece of wire though there and out at the other end, connect a monitor and a camera and see what happens. then you will know for sure ...
  8. Well, sounds like fun to cut down on cost and get a good system, try to cut down to 16 cameras. I have never heard of this SharpVision product, seems it is a custom PC system. As for the cat5 cable, I have noticed some loss of video quality, using Baluns at only 150'. Video IS still good, however im a die hard high quality fan They are what we call Passive Devices, non amplified. Therefore like any video without amplifiers there is loss over distance. Active (amplified) gives you almost no video loss up to distances such as 1.5 miles, and they also have things like interference rejection, protection against ground hums, and transient protection. Unfortunately for good active transcievers, the budget job is out of the questionl; they are not cheap - for example, www.NVT.com is one of the most popular in the US. Since you say there is a budget, then you may only be left with something like what you linked to, as far as transmission goes. Questions: How do you plan to power the cameras? Are they 12VDC or 24VAC? How many cameras? Are any cameras looking at door entrances, Warehouse Loading Docks? How is the lighting, day & night? Do you prefer color or can do with Black & White only? Is the location Pitch Dark at night? Do you want High Resolution Cameras? Are you looking for a deal, or high quality video? As for the DVR, its up to you. But remember, there is little point in buying a good camera ($200+) yet buying a cheap DVR or using Cheap Transmission. The better product will not perform as should and can be a waste of money, where a cheaper alternative would have been more feasable. Rory
  9. Settings depend on the camera and enviroment... can you email/post a couple image clips? Rory
  10. what type of power cable? Is it insulated?

    Color and InfraRed

yep ... but this guy was more interested in a day night camera, color/BW with IR, etc. PS. when you get the 637's online please email a pic ...thanks Rory
  12. Yes ... I have RG6 just installed for a monitor, run over 850'. Just have to watch for interference from high voltage, etc. In other words keep it at least a foot away from any type of high voltage. Rory

    Phone System

    thanks ..
  14. both great ideas guys, actually, the place is a car audio visual etc place, so they have plenty of the plastic stuff like flex tubing . gonna give it a whirl when im all done ..

    What wire

ok will do tomorrow .. i mean this morning! yeah man, let me know when, Ill be here until the neighbors start locking their garbage cans down! gonna get a couple hours sleep now, later rory
  16. sounds like you want a stand alone DVR ... too late though as you already have the GEO .. does the GEO have a monitor out, or loop output? (non VGA) If so, can you run wire to the TV? OR, http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=&pcount=&Product_Id=12876
  17. rory

    What wire

oh yeah, and this is what I got from NVT regarding this: "If you use 2 pairs of Cat 5 for power, you should be able to power a camera drawing 300mA at distances up to almost 400'. You should not run 24VAC in same wire bundle as other datacom or telecom signals, but it is acceptable to send power in the same wire bundle as your video signal(s)." now I take it to mean 2 pairs out of the 4 pairs ..what do you think? 4 pairs would be too thick for one side of power anyway ..
  18. rory

    What wire

if yah like, I can use the extra cat5 I have and test the power from the 24VAC Power Box on 2 pairs, to the other building, which is around 150', and see what kind of voltage i get? Whats the worst that can happen, lower voltage right? Or can it burn the wire ?? Its hard to get an exact answer on this on the web ..
  19. rory

    What wire

Oh yeah, I have been told also, that you shouldnt run 24VAC in the same bundle as data lines. For an example, at 50' I did not notice any loss in power, maybe only like .2 or something is all. I think it came in at 28.5VAC from 28.9VAC, cameras can handle from 18-30VAC. Ill check tomorrow and document the differences between the 10 ft run and the 50 ft run.
  20. rory

    What wire

yeah if its 24VAC. 12VDC doesnt go too far. Another alternative, you could buy one of these http://www.spytown.com/t24130wp.html or just use a plug in transformer, or even put it in a transformer, or even, buy a 4 channel and run extra cat5 for future cameras .. Rory

    What wire

5 degrees .. i think yah have bigger worries than the cable!!
  22. rory

    What wire

Longest run i have it like it is maybe 50' .. as i just ran them back to a local power supply, the video ties into a terminal strip, then continues onto the other building .. how long are the runs .. there is no interference in the runs though that i have ... NVt claims you can run 24VAC over dual wire (2 pairs) up to 400' with 330ma color cameras. If you can power it locally do so.
  23. rory

    What wire

whats the longest runs? It really comes down to which is easier to run in this case, and how it will be run. My run here by the way was over 150' with the cat5, seems there is a little more video loss than in the past when i have used coax. Ofcourse it is just passive baluns. By the way, I just hooked up a monitor for a security booth, had them run RG6 coax, it came out crisp,850+ feet. If they can afford it (?) some NVT active RX and TX's. Ive powered all my cameras locally, and they are 12VDC and 24VAC with no ground loops. (cat5 w/ baluns) also, im lost when it comes t o square feet, what is that in english ?? (1,000x2,000 feet, etc?) Rory
