rory replied to rory's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
yeah, but this is quicker and simpler than soldering, no extra tools or experience required. -
is this a good deal,l think so!!!l looking to buy.

by the way, this is a cheap DVR from Korea I am going to test out, will see how it adds up. They are currently working on the 8 and 16 channel versions to be released soon, and a version with a CDR. Korean DVRs look to be better than the other asian brands, dont quote me yet though. MPEG4: http://www.uriel.net/htm/product/tm4_001.htm this is the same one (different address in korea though) http://www.active-tek.com/jun/HtmlPro/product1-1eng.htm build your own.. http://www.active-tek.com/jun/HtmlPro/product_avr400beng.htm the above may be the same, especially as neither know how to make a web site !! LOL Also, the other is this one, also Korean: http://www.nadatel.com/ Also they are working on an 8 and 16 channel version. (same manufacturer i wonder .. perhaps a marketing strategy) -

no problem .. we all use the cheap DVRs also ..different clients have different needs and budgets. My issues with the cheap DVRs that I have used so far, are that they lock up alot when connected on the network, in playback. Maybe this is just a linux thing? Kalatel uses Nucleous RTOS, not linux, and never had 1 lock up yet. Their network software is also very limited, and the DVR menu programming also limited, but you get what you pay for. I also have the 9 channel Provideo Mux at an installation, what do you mean when you say not a true quad? Do you mean real time display in quad? You may be right there ..havent used it that much other than 9 way which yes, is not real time on that mux - BUT, the price is 1/3rd that of say the Kalatel Mux. The provideo mux does what I need it to do. By the way that job, Im using a 16 channel Kalatel Mux, the 9 channel provideo mux, and a Kalatel Single channel DVR with a Channel Vision RF modulator. 8 cameras that loop from the Kalatel mux are covert on the kalatel mux, and the provideo mux is used on the Monitor's B input. The single channel DVR records off the kalatel mux. Rory -
the domes look exactly like the ambush domes, similar if not same specs. Rory

This may be a silly question, Are you meaning the IP that the ISP assigns you? If so, do you have a static IP address? Or do you mean the internal link? If so, do you have it set up as an Application in the router with port forwarding? rory

by the way, real time display is not that important a feature for a security system. Multiplexers (i have used) always show real time display up to 9 camera view, after that it becomes slightly slower display. Alot of security system users do not view 16 way anyway, as it is way to small. 9 way is the most common. Matrix systems can use multiple monitors assigned to any different view, such as having 1 21" monitor in 9 way view, 3 9" Monitors of Single Cameras in 1 way view, and 1 9/14/15" monitor in quad view. Another example would be a multiplexer with 16 cameras, which does not do 16 way in real time display - you set it to 9 way, then set sequence on, and it will see all 9 windows in real time, the last window will sequence the remainder of the cameras, and in real time. Stability is the most important feature in a Security System, coupled along with good recording quality, in CCTV. -

A DVR unit is not "superior" just because it "claims" a faster recording speed. There are many other things to take into consideration. Rory -

yeah I only had a few minutes to test it, but i was all in the programming, and watching playback, quality looked same as kalatel. Ived used their software so I know how that is, not bad, kinda pretty, could be better but still, was my first choice before I used Kalatel. Please PM me with a price (dealer price) thanks. Still a nice little neat unit. though, Kalatel now has the Digia, any reviews on that? I heard about it on here actually, price is not that bad, for the name, but question would be, does it still use Wave Reader? thanks rory

its the topic of this thread, that DVR intellicam has on their site is the Nadatel 4 Channel DVR. -
Yes from what I have been told, and have demoed. You can look at the Panasonic Day Night Wide Dynamic PTZ, with the Acti Video Server. I havent used it, but have heard good things. Some of the IP guys on this forum may be able to help out more with that. I have a price list for Acti here somewhere .. Rory

It is all Cat5 cable. One of the alarm wires is Telco 2 pair wire, not stranded. Ill check and see what I can pick up here. I may be able to get it from a local computer store also. Thanks Rory
-
How many pairs of the 4 pairs in a Cat5 cable, are required for the network for a router, does it use all 4? Rory
-
Yep, you are correct, Ill probably end up leaving 2 Cat5 cables for them anyway, 1 for Network and 1 for phone, and they can have their people deal with that. The client may not even want the extra camera or monitor right now anyway, I was just thinking out loud Would a Punch Block be better then? I can look a little more, here you gotta kind of drive all over the island looking for this stuff as no sales people know what it is .. same with most electronics here .. what do you mean by services? Phone, alarm, CCTV? Rory

A remote keypad is better IR remotes only work line of site. I said the cheap 4 channel DVRs I have tested so far. I dont know, I was there for 5 minutes and was playing back recorded video ... in the menu system, etc. At least the DM doesnt lock up on playback over the network though ... havent tested a cheap one yet that hasnt ..

whts 500 metres in feet? Anyway, NVT makes Avtive (amplified) Transveivers/Receievers that if using Cat5 will get up to 1.5 miles with Active Transmitters at the cameras, or 3000' with Passive Transmitters at the cameras, or the other way around. They have 4, 8 and 16 channel versions, as well as single receivers and transmiters. For the price of the COP stuff, give it a try, But also make a seperate quote for the NVT (or similar) high end UTP/Cat5 products. http://www.nvt.com/products/NV_862R.html http://www.nvt.com/products/NV_653T.html http://www.nvt.com/products/NV_214AM.html (passive transmitter) COP products are just OEM, nothing special, same as Eclipse, Mace, etc. They work most of the time, just depends what you want. Amplified will give you the best image quality with little to no loss of quality. You can also "Repeat" the signal by using another Transceiver at say a 1.5 mile point (for example) so to continue on for another 1.5 miles, and so on and so on. Ofcourse NVT is expensive, but it is very commonly used in PTZ installations to obtain the best image available, other than going with Fiber. NOTE: I havent installed their products yet, but I did do a service on one of them where they had PTZs and the 16 channel Transceiver, and Passive TX's. It was a great crisp image and the cameras were 2000+ feet away. On that same note, i was asked to take a look at an installation that had some OEM UTP hubs, and some Merlit Lim PTZs, have the cameras didnt work due to distances of 2000' the others that did work were in the 1000-1500' range, some were intermittent and the others were just not a good picture. These were all passive. They upgraded to NVT. So ill let you decide. Rory

these guys have some good MPEG4 Network Cameras and Servers: http://www.acti.com/ProductsV2/Product_Catalog.Asp Panasonic also has some good Network PTZ cameras, with Wide Dynamic, etc, but it is JPEG. http://www.panasonic.com/business/security/network_cameras.asp They have some consumer Network PTZ products also that are very inexpensive. http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/vModelList?storeId=11251&catalogId=11005&langId=-1&catGroupId=11082 Rory

costs more than the Kalatel StoreSafe, which has more features and a more advanced network software. Ive used the Eco4 also, nice little unit, and for the size it is impressive, but too many drawbacks for us to use it on this side of the globe. If I was in the UK it would be different. It is however, alot better than the cheap 4 channel OEM DVRs I have tried so far. Rory

ok so I only need 2 pairs for the network? Because barrier strips are easier to find here than punch blocks. on the 2nd building (remote side) im using barrier strips, maybe, havent got them yet, may see if I can still get my hands on a punch block .. anyway, lets call this the remote Junction -- building 2 - this junction carries all the building 2's alarm, cctv, phone, and network cabling back to building 1 - the main building. There are 4 cat5 cables. Power is local for both buildings for alarm and CCTV. So I only need: CCTV = 5 pairs (5 cameras) Alarm = Keypad Data (1 pair), Zone Expander(Polling loop) (1 pair), Sirens (1 pair) = 3 pairs Phone = 1 pair (phone system extension - may be 2 pairs) Network = 2 pairs (?) total available = 4 x 4 = 16 Pairs total used = 11 pairs total left = 5 pairs I may want a monitor for the cameras from building 1's cameras at the office in building 2 as well, so that will take up an extra pair if we use it. And adding an extra camera would take yet another pair, so we'd have 3 pairs left give or take for the phone or as extra. Dont think there would be anything else required. So just to confirm 2 pairs for Network to connect a router to a remote hub in building 2? thanks Rory
-
ok thanks guys, ill probably stop by the guys im going to get to crimp it anyway. Reason is Im limited to a certain amount of pairs as we ran 4 cat5 cables and silly me though that meant 5 pairs per cable!!!

those are stand alones. And they are embedded, they are not RTOS though thats the difference. Rory

Most distributors (and dealers/integrators), such as Herm, would be more than glad to give you the name of the manufacturer. Its the local manufacturers that re label it with their name on them, that is more likely to be unwilling to give out that information.
-
This is not really a subject that can be answered - "Who is the largest?" There are many many high selling DVR manufacturers to this day. Some are larger in sales than others, some are larger in profits than others. Price of the DVR themselves can play a big part in this, as well as demographics. There is currently no way to determine who is the largest manufacturer of DVRs. Basically, if it doesnt say "Made in the [enter your country here]" then it is most likely from Asia. If it is a low end cheap DVR, then it most likely is from Asia. One place to look at is www.asmag.com, and look under DVRs category. As for support, the best support would be from a local Distributor that carries the line of DVRs. Unless you can stock alot of the product, buying direct from Asia is not recommended. Distributors of specific DVRs will normally test and use the product for a while before they sell it, if they dont, they should be doing so. Even dealers/integrators should be doing that also. I cant say I know of one low cost (low end) DVR that is not made in Asia. Even some of the higher end DVRs that are designed in the US (for example) are put together in Asia to lower costs. And then, some even say "Made in [enter your country here]" while the interior hardware is 100% made in Asia such as a PCI DVR card, but the outer case is produced in the [enter your country here], with their name on it. They just buy the MBoards and DVR cards and put their names on the case. Some dont even do that, they just buy the DVR from Asia at OEM pricing and put their name on it. Some big name CCTV Manufacturers (US based) are also known to do this. Rory

Lens: You will need a wide lens such as 2.5 or 2.9mm. Varifocal is nice for easy installation and you can focus it to what you want to see on installation. Id recommend something like the Fujinon F:0.95 2.9-8mm lens, great for low light (notice the F stop). Lens Manufacturer's Part#: YV2.7 × 2.9LA-SA2 http://www.fujinon.co.jp/en/products/cctv2/vari-focal.htm Lens Manufacturer's Data Sheet: (PDF File) http://www.fujinon.co.jp/en/products/cctv2/pdf/b_11.pdf GE Interlogix (Kalatel) has the same lens under the part number: KTL-2.9-8VA KTL-2.9-8VA Specs: Focal length: 2.9 to 8 mm Zoom ratio: 2.75x l Max aperature: F0.95 l MOD: 0.3 m l Weight: 35.0 g (VA: 50.0 g) l Dimensions (mm): 36.7 x 33.5 x 51.3 l Dimensions (mm): 63.1 x 40.5 x 55.7 (VA: 63.2 x 40.5 x 55.2) l Camera: This camera will accept it, and this is an Exview Low Lux BW camera, which has an Infrared Response up to 1100nm. (in other words you can use Invisible Infrared LED/Bulbs in addition to this camera for pitch dark apps). Price is also very reasonable for what it is. http://bahamassecurity.com/ms/shop.asp?shop=details&id=220&cat=16 Camera Manufacturer's Data Sheet: (PDF File) http://www.ge-consultantlink.com/Docs/ktc_540E_prd.pdf

General DVR Card Questions
rory replied to kaysadeya's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
what to write HTML? know how long that will take away from writing actual script to spend the time in notepad writing html tables from scratch ..way too long, plus when im done i just hit publish and wham its online without any FTP stuff needed. I do the design in Front Page's normal view, then copy what i want into the HTML source of my script page, edit it for scripting and change what I need such as getting rid of the DIVs where they arent required, border colalpses, all that stuff..double all quotes... etc etc.. saves a ton of time. the script im on write now is 2670 lines of code, its a vbscript class with functions and subs. Uses templates in HTML predesigned for future changes of some design, and everything comes from a database, even the dimensions of the web design, colors, images, etc. Its only 1 main page also, default.asp. And what it displays is determined by the varibale pased called "go". uses cacheing for fast loading. It actually includes several other scripts i wrote individually then just place in the class file. That way I can reuse them for other sites, or put them online for download. Another thing, ever tried writing long scripts in notepad, mixed with HTML etc, there are no color codes for the different forms of code, as are in programs like FP.
