i got a Kalatel DVR set to time lapse 20pps mode, across 13 cameras, and he can catch the hands at the registers, just for an example - so those cameras are not even doing close to 20pps per camera. DVR itself is 60pps.

Some advice on Intellicam cameras? are they good cameras?
rory replied to squale's topic in Security Cameras
For prosecuatble images you will need high resolution at the least, and thats only if there is enough ambient lighting. Exview is great, but that doesnt mean you will see the persons face. Infrared is a touchy subject, even with 600' of infrared does not guarantee a good image of the persons face, there are other factors such as reflection from the IR, etc. High Res: Color - 470-520TVL B/W - 570-600TVL As for lighting, Black & White exview is the best to go with, Exview color will not see much in dark conditions, it will see, but depends on the amount of lighting. Every camera needs SOME light. Also, do not put much trust in the lux levels from any manufacturer, as they differ at every location. That is just an OEM cheap Exview BW camera, nothing special, dealer price is around $80, ofcourse retail will be more just giving you an example, dealer price on a pro camera ranges around $200, plus lens and housing. Those bullets are fine for a home though. You wont see much after 50' though, with any wide angle view. The best night time image you will get would be from a professional (box type traditional camera) B/W Exview High Res, with Lighting or at least a UF500 Infrare Bulb. -
How long can you run the cables for video and power?
rory replied to squale's topic in Security Cameras
You will always loose some video quality as the distance gets greater. Only way to fix this is with a video amplifier, either a coax amplifier, or using Cat5/UTp with an Active Receiver and a TX. Baluns will loose just as much video quality as using passive Cat5/UTP receivers. I only ever use baluns on short runs like 100-200 feet where I cant use RG59 (such as multi pair between buildings or used along with telco/networks), otherwise I use RG59, and if its more than 150' or so (depends on how many runs are far) I suggest the client uses Active UTP. Ofcourse most baluns can work up to 1000'+ but quality is normally bad or you can have other problems. Claims of 2000' with baluns is hogwash, it may work, it may not, 50% is not a gamble worth taking when doing the job for a client. Kind of like 150' Infrared with only 56 LEDs ) 200' should be fine though for most general apps. You will probably find you will have more of an issue with long power runs than the video itself. -
yeah ive had that with IR domes which i have given up on. The domes I had I just disconnected the IR so at least I could get a useful image Now I always use a seperate IR Bulb when I need Infrared. The specs from that site looks good but they're claiming 150' with only 56 IR LEDs which doesnt make sense, at least not outside?

well the regular Linksys router has 4 ports for computers/DVRs, and 1 WAN port for Internet (actually sais Internet on it now). You connect the DSL/Cable Modem to the WAN/Internet Port using cat5 as the other ports. Here we HAVE to use the cable/DSL modem supplied by the ISP we cannot buy our own. Rory PS. im getting time adjusted for the UK by staying up to 4-7am everynight now Actually just thought about it, that means im going to sleep at 9am-12noon UK time ... whoops, I guess I need to do it the other way around, go to sleep earlier and get up 5 hours earlier ...!! my bad ..

(CCD) camera with peak response in the 1150nm area?
rory replied to jonk's topic in Security Cameras
yeah I guess, its not cheap. Though, If you want B/W only it is cheap - $183 US, which is cheap in my book for good CCTV cameras. Remember these are US prices, price in your country could be alot less/more. also check out www.extremeCCTV.com, much more expensive but guaranteed Infrared Video - what they say -is what you get. If you have any questions let me know I have been using them for some time now. They also have branch in England which I think is cheaper then US prices. Rory -
yeah what C7 said is what my routers have in them also. just select STATIC IP and enter it there. under Applications and Gaming (depends on the router) Port Forwarding Range is what points the remote request to the DVR's port. Ive never used it with DSL though as ADSL is too expensive down here. this is the Linksys Router I always use: http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?prid=20&scid=29 If they want wireless also then I add the wireless access point in addition to this. I think this is the one, id have to check as I only put in a couple so far: http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=33&scid=35&prid=608

(CCD) camera with peak response in the 1150nm area?
rory replied to jonk's topic in Security Cameras
Just saw you are in finland. May be easier to get Phillips or Sanyo on your side of the globe. None of the phillips say what their Spectral Response is. Ive used this Sanyo Day Night with 850nm but they dont say what the Spectral response is. http://www.sanyo.com/industrial/security/cameras/special/index.cfm?productID=147 This B/W Sanyo does say it is 1050nm. http://www.sanyo.com/industrial/security/cameras/special/index.cfm?productID=148 -

Day night or just Black & White? B/W Exview: http://www.spytown.com/ktc-540e.html http://www.geindustrial.com/products/specs/ktc_540e_prd.pdf Day/Night Exview: http://www.spytown.com/ktc-2000dn.html http://www.geindustrial.com/products/specs/ktc_2000DN_prd.pdf -
The 2nd one will allow you to link additional multiple routers/hubs/switches to extend the number of computers that can go online, while the first one is limited to a total of 4 connected computers. Both prices are cheap for a wireless Linksys router, at least compared to here!

thats the manufacturer's name?

Power wise, they are no different from any other Traditional Camera. Any 24VAC transformer will do, even radio shack has ones I have used in the past. But like I said, all i normally use is the 8 or 16 channel Altronix 24VAC fused power supplies, and have no issues. However i always test each camera (and set it up also) at my appartment on a single 24VAC transformer one by one, to make sure they work before I carry them to the job. Then when im there its just plug and play, and focus. Rory

yeah I got 5 waterresistant ones here and a couple regular ones failure rate on a CD though also is not low, you know scratch here scratch there ... though maybe thats just me ...

dude, more computers are compatible with USB Flash than DVD ... all computers have USB, and USB Flash comes in 4gb now also, and a lot cheaper.. Id go USB over DVD anyday .. I dont know of any court that would have an entertainment center in it, but more than likely they will have a PC... the only problem will be the cost of giving that USB Flash Key to the cops to maybe never see it agaain .. compared to the cost of a CD, so basically CD over DVD anyday .. then USB Flash .. for ease of back up .. it stays on your keychain ..

anyone seen that, was on tonight TNT - some pano cameras, dont know what DVR, but seemed a mix of PC based and matrix stand alone .. or maybe as it was a movie it was whatever they wanted it to be The guy hacked into the system with a laptop and disabled the cameras, on a timer non the less so they turned back on at a certain time .. he he he ..makes you wonder ... only systems with control through a PC like that where you can do what they did, are network camera systems or large PC based Matrix (casino type)...hmmm

interesting, dont know if that floppy disk one would ever take off over here though, since USB flash is more todays current market, who uses floppies anymore ;-0 The Darlex looks interesting also, though looks like it does what others such as Kalatel's DVMRe's do as well, except the audio thing you mentioned. Its good to see its not windows or linux based though, thats a plus all round. any idea on the miniplex price though, the one with the floppy?

hey herm, im only going by what others have posted that it uses that card, i may be wrong though ... the ameba one looks good though .. especially for multiple audio.

sorry just realised its a little bigger than what you wanted ..

Hey. anyone know if, without a cable signal, that a CCTV signal using a modulator will still work? I dont think so, but just had to ask.. thanks rory
-
I just thought since it uses a Cable TV channel, it would need actual Cable TV signal? If not then reason is the client doesnt have cable in the area yet, but it is easier than running a wire to each TV, they have 1 TV in every room, approx 3 bedrooms, a game room, kitchen and a living room. Rory
