As far as I know, its nothing special, uses windows 2000 and the PICO DVR cards. Yet they charge an arm and a leg for it.

are you talking about the network software? If so, something that can fit in a plasma display Honestly I like the Kalatel WaveReader gui "type" - simple, normal windows style. Only thing is, though they have the great disk analysis, it could be a lot better, search by date time in easy reach .. record to CD (drag & drop). Dont like windows explorer type GUIs like Ive seen in many network ones. Dont like to have to go through drop down menus, like buttons, simpler. Up/Down on buttons is okay for selections also. Right Click edit image with installed image/paint program. Cntrl+Left Click to select groups of cameras, right click to do certain things like save, burn to CD, Copy to USB. More views such as PIP in network software. I dont like flashy colors etc, im only concerned in seeing the video.I hate cheesy looking icons! if you're talking bout the actual DVR itself, then GUI is only used in PC based systems (windows), as stand alone embedded (non windows ones) dont have any GUI, buttons on the front of the DVR control everything. For browser based, havent yet seen one that impressed me ... jave is a plus though. Ofcourse im Biased as i have my own, just wish I could get it to work with java! Rory

http://www.amebacctv.com/Digi-1600ASE.htm up to 16 channels of audio.. check out Hermin on this forum, he is a distributor for them. there may be others also ..

try it with a 500ma 12VDC plug and see what happens. Also, always get the GE lenses when using the Ultraview, just in case ..thats what my last issue was, the computar lens was giving me the problem .. though I know I have used Computer / tamron on the one before this. Rory

I have them on a 12VDC 16 output fused 6a power supply. Ive used the other GE cameras with 24VAC only, this time i had some other 12VDC cameras so thats what I used. The problem I had, first one I had was heavily pixelised so i sent it back. This latest one was lighting changing colors, like the white balance, I changed the lens and it fixed the problem. What lens are you using? And what cable are you using? Rory

never had that problem with them. Did you try setting the factory defaults in the ones showing B/W? Perhaps the distributor messed with the program settings. Also, I take it you are setting them up on a color monitor and not through the DVR? Rory

If your budget is $1000-1500, and you need 16 channels, your choice will probably be a single channel add on - in the name brands anyway. GE Kalatel has the DSR-2000e or the DSR-1000e. Both have LAN that works with any network software designed for GE DVRs, They dont do Multi-site, only the all in one Triplex DVRs do that, the difference between the 1000 and the 2000 is basically the 2000 has a S-Video output, while the 1000 does not, plus the 1000 is smaller, and the 2000 has more hard disk size capability. The 1000 max is 160GB (last i checked). time lapse mode with a DSR-2000 320GB 8 cameras, 24/7 gas station they get 28 days, on 5pps setting. So it depends. You can normally get much longer and faster recordings if using an all in one DVR/Mux. with motion recording. Other than that you could try and sell your mux to get a couple dollars to add to the cost of a new 16 channel all in one DVR Mux. Mind you they arent cheap in the name brands, 16 channel dealer price runs around $3000-3500 depending on hard drive size. Thge Nuvico is around $2200-2400, low end DVRs run around $1000-1200. Rory

Complemented business
rory replied to CSScarlos's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
guys watch the use of the word POS in the CCTV industry remember ... you get what you pay for with CCTV ... CSScarlos has posted in the past and seems like he is utilizing this technology foe real ..any feedback you have CSScarlos on P.O.S. with certain DVRs please let us know .. thanks Rory -
Hi To Start with, you would be better off using a "Wide Dynamic Camera". This means when head lights come in front of the camera, for example, it cuts down on the glare, and allows better recognition of the vehicle, and if focused in close enough, and there is enough lighting, the licence plate, and even sometimes the person inside the vehicle, can be captured. It is like a backlighting setting that spreads across the entire width of the lens, so if you focus the lens in wide view, it will still work. If using a wide dynamic camera, and its outdoors, you can use an Auto Iris lens also. Auto Iris, are used when there are variaions in lighting levels, such as outdoors. It componsates for the changes in lighting levels, better than most electronic iris cameras can, or cameras using manual lenses. Though Wide Dynamic Camera technology can generally accomplish this on its own, it really depends on the camera itself, and an auto iris lens is not much more expensive. so it is recommended. Basically, if using any camera outdoors, you should use an Auto Iris lens, and if you want to use it for traffic surveillance, it is highly recommended to use a Wide dynamic Camera. Panasonic has some very good Day Night Wide Dynamic cameras designed just for this type of application. Rory

What AV posted, is all you need, better than using a VCR and worrying about Tapes, its all in one, and playback is much easier than a VCR, plus the quality is actually still somewhat better than a VCR even though it is a low res quad DVR. No Lan though ...with LAN versions go for a couple hundred $$ more. AV, do they have the 9 channel? Where I buy them from there is only a $50 difference so we only sell the 9 channel now.

Like AV said, it needs to have an IR cut Filter to get a good day time image, most cheap brands do not have that. A mechanical IR filter is supposed to be the better choice. See this link for the need for an IR Cut Filter: http://www.cs.unc.edu/Research/stc/FAQs/Cameras_Lenses/IR%20Filter.htm Now for some Day Night Cameras with IR Cut Filters: Sanyo GE Kalatel Panasonic Bosch Phillips Speco Provideo (CVC-7706DNV only) Prices all range in the $350-400 range camera only. Dome versions of these (where it applies) range in the $500 price, but not as good as a Box Type Traditional Camera with a Full Lens.

Extended Keyboard/Monitor & Outlook Express question
rory replied to rory's topic in Computers/Networking
Yeah, It wasnt something she asked for, was just a thought, you know, extra work = money -
also, are you using 24VAC or 12VDC? How are they powered? (Multiple power supply/seperate supplies?) Rory
-
interference comes to mind straight away. They pick up any kind of electric as the wire is so thin. I would suggest using baluns at the least, but for your problem, sounds like you need to check the wire locations, and worst case scenerio, you might want to look at an Active UTP Receiver with UTP Transmitters, only Active ones get rid of ground hums, and interference, at least with the NVT brand, cant speak for the rest. Extended Keyboard/Monitor & Outlook Express question
rory replied to rory's topic in Computers/Networking
hi, thanks, both. Her email comes with its web based, but It s not as easy as you always have to login. Anyway, using the monitor like this she would use the same computer so that wont be an issue anymore. Thanks again Rory -
Reccomendations on Video Monitoring for Alarm Mon Co
rory posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Any ideas on real world integrations. Just an idea at this point, but IP cameras would be a cheaper way to install cameras for remote monitoring for video verification. Looking at Axis products, but their software costs $7,000 for 50 devices only. Any other ideas? Also, as Im not a partner or owner in the alarm companies, how would I go about offering this service, have them buy their own PCs etc, just set up everything and get a one time fee, or percentage, or?? Thanks Rory -
what brand is it?
