Which is better for remote transmission?Geovision or kodicom
rory replied to pingsquare's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
beware though, GEO's browser based doesnt always work in anything but XP, at least the newer versions would not when I tested them in ME; can you say crash ... Plus its the ugliest GUI i have seen yet. Other than that it has some of the best PCI DVR specs for consumers. I have recently found some PC based stand alones (embedded XP) with much better specs and look more professional, though cost is very high. Half of these companies only write the software anyway these days. Heloder sells Kodicom so he would be able to answer that one .. -
dos anyone know who the manufacturer is? I know NUBIX seems obvious, but I cant find it on the web anywhere ..

$375 for a Multiplexed 9 channel DVR low end. $500 4 channel Multiplexed Networked cheap one, $900 16 channel Multiplexed Networked cheap one. Higher end with much more features and stability start at around $1400 4 channel. as for phone, yes, but not the cheap ones. -

i know. just saying. What about getting an account with a distributor and selling cheap stand alone DVRs? Therefore no worries about buying OS's and building and testing the PCs. If you need a couple links to some distributors let me know. A couple of their stand alones you would never be able to build a 'legal' (in US terms) PC based DVR for anywhere close to it. Otherwise you may want to look at the Vpon DVRs whichhave the onchip OS. Still PC based. Rory -

Alarm means a zone from an alarm system, or a zone device such as a motion or beam, if just by itself. Some can also send a message on Event or Activity, which basically means motion detection, so no external devices are required. They can differ in their wording of this though.

in the US im sure there are some licencing laws regarding installing windows on multiple PCs. If you're not sure about it, you may want to rethink building your own PC DVRs as they require alot more time involvement than a normal PC windows installation, if you want it to last that is. Or lets put it this way, if you're looking to save money, you may end up with 6+ hours building and loading up each PC, which in the long run means you may end up charging alot more, than say plugging in a ready made/tested DVR which can take 5 minutes to install. Stand alone 4 channel DVRs can cost under $500 these days, much less than a PC and a PC DVR plus time involved in set up and maintenance. -
whatever they send me.. The ones they send me from the US Distributor are good ones, Ill have to find out who makes them, bag is plain and i never paid any attention to the label. The ones we get here, are crap ones, 5 out of 10 wont go on all the way, and the middle piece ends up coming out of the center .....

twist it on hard, till it cant twist anymore. It cannot be pulled off. It uses the stranded wire to grip to it as well. It has to be cut/prepared to exact lengths, otherwise it will not grip properly and then yes it can come off easy. Ive had to take them off for one reason or another, and its a pain, that most times Id just cut the cable if it is enough length. And yes, I hate heights!! (moreso I hate falling)

i got a Radeon 64MB DDR Video card here right now, it has DVI and S-Video output, im going to put it in a PC tomorrow that is connected to a 50" Plasma, will let you know how it looks. Right now its using the VGA input on the Plasma but having problems switching between TV and VGA mode, so maybe the S-Video input will work better, its an old Plasma so it doesnt have DVI. VGA picture isnt bad though.

then again, down here it is easier to find twist ons, where as trying to get a crimp on is like pulling teeth, only way is to import them. If they are readily available and you dont mind the extra time, crimp it, beware those 40' ladder jobs though, 1 hand on the ladder, the other stretched out trying to put the connector on without falling :-0
-
once you do them correct, they will never come off, at least not any easier than a Crimp on connector. Problem is most people dont connect them properly. All i use is twist on, im always changing other peoples twist and crimp ons as they are never done properly. None of mine in over 3 years have ever come loose.

if its 12VDC yes, if its 24VAC then it doesnt matter.
