  1. right off subject, darn, first it was months of the peterson case, now its the blake case, what is with the news these days! Do viewers really care about these people and their court cases?
  2. yeah that is true...alot of clicking to get the activeX installed, or using FireFox, no ActiveX at all ... I still cant find the way to get my app to connect to the KalatelDVRs .. no java support yet. IE though you can set it up to always allow ActiveX from a certain IP .. but still .. I like the extra security though. Ive tested it over several well known worm infested sites (wont name them) and so far so good. thing is, Windows Update from the start button if done manually, requires IE still...
  3. There a Manfacturer arent they? If so, then they probably dont have the time a software company would have to go in depth with support for all browsers/OS's, etc, look at GE's crappy web based server app for an example, and they are a huge company! Just for kicks, heres a screen shot of the difference of browsers accessing one of my sites, IE is 1-5, Netscape is 7, etc. Note: I just started using FireFox myself for general browsing, but apart from activeX havent come accross any major differences with web site displays. Validation is overrated, especially when people start putting that little box on their web site, just looks so cheesy ...

    Wireless

whatever they state, ignore it, unless you plan on investing alot of time and extra money on the job I gave up on Wireless video a couple years ago. Noone is going to pay me enough to do the work involved to get it done right! Now if I do, do it, It is definately going to be 5.8ghz. 900-2.4 is out of the question for me. Check out Trango or VideoCom, 2 of the leaders in Long Range Wireless Video in the US & Canada. In any event, if installing Wireless TXs for Video, you need to get iy up high enough on the TX and RX side, and then there is the interference side of it, Cellphones messed up my video over here, not to mention nearby high voltage transformers on a couple jobs.
  5. So is it still going to use ActiveX or Java?? Open Source is good, if you already got paid!
  6. Im not talking about a DVR, Im talking about a simple little video server box, there is no way a PC is going to be as secure and stable as that, unless it itself is running a windows OS. Same as saying it is as secure and stable as a Cellphone ..! Ever wonder why we use Standalone hardware as recievers for alarms in the central stations? PCs are only there for the GUI part of it. I can agree that linux DVRs are almost as stable as a PC DVR, but to compare it to a kalatel DVR's RTOS and its stability is totally different, as they do not compare, every cheap Linux DVR I have tested has crached, in 3 years i have not had a single Kalatel DVR crash, and I am very good at crashing the linux DVRs .... But either way, lets not get into a discussion on that again please; I want to plug in a small tough little box, like the Axis Servers for example, there are no PCs that size that can accept PCI cards, yet, I have looked around, only the CappuccinoPCs come in at the very small size I want, for a personal computer also, but cant get a PCI card to fit in them. So to be honest I dont care if it is a PC or not, just want a small little device that I can plug and play; hence the video server. As for hardware, Id still have to support the PCs locally, or rely on a local company, which I dont do now, and dont want to do. Relying on other companies is the downfall of most businesses over here, service is just not up to par with you guys in the 1st world .
  7. Actually, when it comes to video monitoring central station, I have to jump in here, as I actually want to do this on a large scale. Im not going to install PCs or use the users PC for the video monitoring of their cameras, if its a business I could get away with it, but for this application I will have to stick to network server boxes. The idea of the monitoring station would be to install video servers, stand alone little boxes, in the users home, and connect their existing or new analog cameras to them, they may be able to afford just cheap $50 cameras, some will be able to afford the higher end ones, and some may want a DVR locally as well or have all this already. None the less, we need scalability for hundreds/thousands of cameras and accounts, otherwise the business is not worth going into. As with alarm systems and monitoring, we want ultimate stability on the client side, and so PCs are out of the question, we dont want to ever have to go back to the users location unless absolutely neccassary. We dont want to have to build and test PCs, and dont want to have to do maintenance on PCs, we will have too much to do as it stands. At our end, using a PC is not an issue as we can control that part of it ourselves, and the proper enviroment and maintanance required can be undertaken by ourselves. Now, I know where everyone is coming from, right now im coming from alarm monitoring central stations and so this is what we want for our thousands of clients. I posted a request for this in the IP section (I think) and provided what would be required to make it work. Hence IP video servers seem like the only and most feasable solution. Most of our existing hundreds/thousands of alarm clients, dont know anything besides MSN, Yahoo, and somehow know how to infect their PCs with everything known to the spyware and worm world to date. Also, a large majority do not have computers to start with, and have no desire to ever use or own one, or only their kids use it for MSN and recieving files .... Business clients I know of do not want to expose their networks to the internet, Firewall or not (Eg. Offshore banks, Jewellery Stores, Banks, Casino, etc, and those that do, use those computers to browse the web and instant message, etc, and will not buy an extra computer unless they can use it. Some will but thats not enough. Time related, we will not have time to build or test PCs, and show the users how to use them, this is a large business so we want to just plug and play, and move on to the next. Price wise, a $400 PC in the US costs an average of $1000 here, and thats just a celeron. So for an alarm & video central station monitoring side of it, for security, stability and scalability, this is why IP solutions are the only feasable way to go, at least in our 3rd world. Edit: I also think the only way to go would be to send video on alarm as well. Rory

Not for me When it comes to Infrared there is only one company I use, Extreme CCTV, proven products. The UF500 Bulbs only went after 2 full years of work, and then only costs $50 to replace the one little bulb. Check it out - www.extremeCCTV.com, they make them in the Uk I believe, or at least they have a headquarters over there also. Rory
  19. No never heard of it myself, but the slow remote speed could be due to network bandwidth, nothing to actually do with the DVR. The speed will depend on how fast the DVRs Internet connection is, as well as your remote locations speed. Ask him for specs on it, images/pdf files, and possibly a manufacturer link. After all it is your money you are spending. Rory
  20. Hi, actually its just software, I think? They dont picture any hardware on that page, so im unsure, ill ask someone I know that shops there all the time to check it out when they are there next.

    Please advise on cheap DVR

not over here, new meaning they only recently released them, a couple months ago, i got the email from them when they released it, would you like a date. Its an unknown company still, Im not going to risk my dollars on it right now, Id throw it into some pano cameras and other names to test out. for you guys there it is different, you are closer to them, over here, im screwed if the thing arrives and doesnt work or breaks down a month later, or the company goes out of business ... by the way these people just started selling it in the US: http://www.intellicamusa.com/g44000dvr.htm Good Specs. Basically, when my distributor starrs carry it, Ill buy one from them to test, cause they will always give me my money back incase of a problem. $300 more right now I get the StoreSafe with Real time playback also from a known company that isnt going anywhere any time soon. For now .. If they send me a free demo Ill be glad to look at it, and if I like it sell it It does look impressive. Though Im wondering if the 120pps playback is not in low res mode? Rory

100 feet with 49LEDs, they must be tripping. 84LEDs can do around 75-90' outdoors. Another thing, it doesnt say it has an IR cut Filter so thats why the day time image may not be as good as it could be. You do know it is NOT a Sony Camera right? How long will it last ... as long as any OEM camera. Problem with any Camera with built in LEDs, unless you can switch the LED board yourself, like with the Extreme Cameras, for cheap, then as the LEDs die, one by one, you loose the IR eventually, and eventually there will be no IR left. Thats why I like the IR Bulbs, when the buld goes you just have to change that, its cheap and simple to change, and those Bulbs can do from 100-2400 feet now.
